Impossible to make an old looking character.
Even with the "aging" slider set to maximum they still look 30 something.

I am a 65 year old and retired. I would like my character to look a bit more like me.

Male amarrs looks older. Thats the only bloodline which highly respect those (males) who looks older.

Don't try to be a smartass. The entire point of having this feature is to allow character customisation to as large degree as possible. That means CCP should allow as much variation in options as possible and not to put in any pointless restrictions to cater to someones personal oppinion in what should be allowed. None of the options we have are really necessary and don't just magically appear on a new clone. They all had to be customized extensively to fit the desire of the capsuleer.

If you want an in character explanation, you are basicly just data and there really isn't any restriction what your clone can look like. They are grown and customized to cater to your whims. In the actual EVE universe your options would propably be much greater than the CC allows. There is no reason in the backstory why you have to be a limited to being male or female, old or young or even a human, and there are examples of people changing bodies, controlling multiple bodies at the same time and being implanted as a part of a giant combat robots/vehicles(Sansha). There literally can't be too many options CCP can provide, since the actual EVE universe has everything they can implement and much more, since EVE universe doesn't have to stick to the teen content rating.

Creation is ok although I get a rather annoying rainbow colour effect interference pattern on the skin. This can be seen if you access my character's portrait on the server.

Body/face sculpting is still less than intuitive and provides nuance rather than drastic change. Remains to be seen just how varied avatars will be when this goes live. Apart from hairstyles it is difficult (though not impossible I accept) to make much change over the default.

I would like to see more posing options for the final money shot. Doesn't appear to be anything like the options available compared with the existing live server creation tool.

CCP allows as much as variation as their art department is able to produce. Within the same bloodline they would need to do 24 more old faces which in turn would need to be morphed in much more detail than their younger counterparts as there are a lot more wrinkles to be controlled... me thinks...

CCP could allow much more variation if they just wanted to. They restrict it to reduce the amount of work, to keep the teen rating and to keep their imagined feel for EVE. The easiest thing they could possibly do is allow free tinting of the models, but they don't trust us with the freedom to make those choices. I can see why they do it, but the end result is that the majority will get a worse character creator, because CCP has to adjust things to take in to account the actions of the minority. Personally I'd rather deal with the occasional freakshow troll in Incarna, than give up any customisation options for myself.

With the aging options I would settle for just a normal slider with excessive wrinkles at the extreme end, instead of the current "slider" that just has 3 options to choose from. It's better than nothing, but not by a large margin.

First attempt at the Character creator resulted in me recreating Drew Barrimore. My only request is that when we recreate our portaits, we start off with a base most similar to our original portraits. (i.e. hair styles, backgrounds, etc) I also noticed that with the addition of new backgrounds, some old ones have been removed, such as the neon halo style that is pretty much on the back of all my toons. The reason I request the base is I spent 2 hours designing the perfect toon, and that is just one. I'll be spending the first week, as it stands now, designing all 4 accounts. ;)

For those that wish to see Drew in EVE:

After starting a new character (third on account) win7 64 bit with max graphics no AA and entering the game in space the rendering does not work. Overview and symbels are there but no space back ground or rendering of ships. The new version resets to the log in screen but when you enter the game still no in game rendering. Docking in station and undocking fixes the issue as well as logging back in but this is not good for new players.

Holy smack! What did you do CCP? You just took two steps back. Hairdos won't load that did load fine before. Can't select the opacity sliders because they now won't appear unless I hover over the actual features selections and it disappears before I can move the mouse down to the opacity sliders.

Just now up and running with it again. Surely to be more problems. And you're releasing this when? It was great. Now it's back to the drawing board.

____________________________________________________________

A few issues:

1. Hairstyles clip through the face horribly. Btw I'd love to have the front part of this hairstyle with long hair and a ponytail!

2. When using the 2 ponytail hairstyles where the hair is combed backwards:
- a. The hair on the head is colour 1, the tail is colour 2
- b. (mentioned previously) the tail is not attached to the head but "floats" in the air behind it
- c. when the head is turned, the tail bends very unnaturally

3. All the long hairstyles look very buggy, but it could be my PC (GF 9600GT, extreme quality, 4 x AA).

4. Primary and secondary hair colours seem to switch which each hairstyle. While I can't seem to make some hairstyles blonde, some others are or mix up in a very strange fashion. This really should be reworked, it looks horrible! Also: primary and secondary don't have the same colour palettes.

5. The faces and hairstyles often can't in any possible way be made to resemble the old portraits. I really think CCP should give everyone a character race remake, or at least a bloodline change.

6. Most hair colours don't look natural. All the non-black colours look kind of dyed, I think it's because natural hair colours always have a range of colours because the sun makes the top layer a bit lighter (highlights) and so on; the EVE hair is far too homogenous.

7. Skin colours. Most bloodlines don't have a very dark nor very pale option. 90% of the skin tones are various degerees of "tanned". We need more choices! I miss the dark colour for people from India and also the very pale Japanese tone.

edit: What's also a bit frustrating is that CCP doesn't have a list of registred reported bugs/known issues, so you have no idea if they any intention to fix it or noticed anything at all. They just take the creator from the server and next time something has changed .. or not.
Can we PLEASE have some feedback???

I have to say, I'm greatly impressed. The tool is much easier to use than most other contemporary character creation software.

Some bugs and omissions (*cough* tattoos... *cough*) hold it back, however, though you're aware of most of these. The most important is the one where the colors do not update properly when you choose them on the palette; if you re-select the item (be it make, hair, whatever), however, it updates properly.

A proper scroll bar would be nice, as it's not exactly intuitive to click and drag in the empty space in the selection bars.

I must deplore you to allow us to change our bloodlines. They no longer serve a mechanical purpose, and as such there is simply no reason to force everyone to stick with what they started out with, especially when appearances will have changed so drastically between the old and the new versions.

Seriously, I LOVE my new character, but there's no way in hell I'm starting over just for a different look...

My two cents,
Short and simple:
-Fantastic product, especially to welcome new comers! Well done!

BUGS:
-Mentioned before I'm sure: the 'message not found: charcreationlosechangeBloodline' needs fixing

USABILITY:
-The colour selection boxes are way too small and not well ordered, and are too restrictive in choice

-The rolling selector is a bit frustrating and not very "smooth", it would be good to have the scrolling more fluid and less dependent on the mouse wheel.

-I think it would make more sense to have anything related to eyes in one section rather than spread out across multiple sections: e.g.: EYES= Eyes + colours, Eye Colours, Eyelashes + colour, Eyebrows + colours etc. It's a tiny bit convoluted as it stands now.

WISHLIST:

HAIR COLOUR SHADES: too restricted
-what happened to red headed males? I couldn't find any race that could do redheads: more red shades for beards, eyelashes and hair would be great
-it's also not easy to create a naturally looking blonde male: more shades of blonde for beards, eyelashes and hair are required.

RACES:
-black or darker races seem to be restricted to the Brutor? Skin complexion is too restricted as it stands.

TATTOOS:
-I understand the dev team is having issues adapting tattoos onto the meshes, so hopefully a solution is found. I second the need for tattoos (there's a whole chronicle just on eve tattoos!)

BEARDS:
-Bushy beards would be nice and a few more choices :)

Otherwise, FANTASTIC job guys! well done!

Funny you say that. Because as Amarr...I can't find a way to make my character look a day under 40....I hate it. I wish we could change our bloodlines with the recreation of our character portraits. It makes me regret selecting Khanid because before incursion they didnt look asian at all...now i cant look like anything but a 45 year old Jet lee.

As a member of the CSM, it is important for political reasons for me to be able to project a totally misleading impression of gravitas -- and so I would like the ability to create an avatar that is much like the real me -- a stocky, early-50's, salt-n-pepper bearded geek with a bad case of male pattern baldness, who somehow manages to project an air of trustworthiness, total competence, and incredible sexiness.

I mean, really, is that too much to ask?

Right now, as a Gallente, the closest I can come is a mid-30's douchenozzle. Confused

I have severe display problems using the actual character creator.

I only see the actual face but i dont see the rest of the body. If i chose a jacket it looks like an invisible person is wearing it. Some other options like eyebrows are not visible.

Im using a ATI Readon 1950XT grafic card and adjusted the settings for optimal quality.

I'm not overly happy with the turn the new editor has taken.
I mean: I looked like a cute latina girl (with too thick lips) and look what they make of me!! Mad
Bruce Lee with breasts???

I managed to make something acceptable of it but I can never ever get my pretty latina looks and hairstyle back in the new editor. A great step back in my opinion, I would never have picked this bloodline in the current editor's options!! ugh

Booh!

Have to say I agree with this to an extent... seems that you've made one bloodline of each race appear very Asian - Vherokior being the most pronounced, if this is how it's intended to be on release then either we need more control over some details - the eyes particularly in this case or a one off bloodline change.

I chose Verokior because of the 'mystic' thing & attributes-I would NEVER have chosen it for my main charachter if I'd know I'd end up turning Japanese!(no offense to any Asians btw-I'd be happy to have an Asian toon, but that would be MY choice!) Please please please give us the option to change bloodline at least! I love being Minnie & am happy with it, but, but my current pic looks NOTHING like what it is on Sisi! Its very pretty, but its NOT me, or how I've imagined my charachter!!!I'm a Celt!!! I have very long blonde CURLY hair-in rl that is! I'd like to express that tyvm!(is there no such thing as perms in New Eden)

I've tried a few of the options availible-creating a buff bloke is a synch-my Gallente alt is so cute I'd shag him in a sec! Going fugly is harder-we need more old/grey/fat/tall/short options, otherwise we all end up looking like we've been boffing our supermodel cousins since the Eve gate closed.

Women-Oh dear! Does CCP have a size 0 fixation! When I saw my Ammar char I was shocked-famine victim! C'mon CCP! I like a woman with a bit of substance-the muscularity is a joke! Can't broaden shoulders, so none of my creations look like they could heft a French stick above their heads, let alone load heavy ammo! The realisation is a LOT of fun to play with, but, the moving around is a pest-sculpting & taking portraits-had to trash one 'cos the bugger blinked! If you're putting so much effort into this then at least give us the option to change things after the fact and play with it.

More variety with regard to hairstyles and colour(for EVERYTHING!!)-I think I mentioned long flowing, wavy tresses-male AND female! Lots more clothing/colour options-currently we all look like we've been shopping in the same branch of Primark! Tattoos, implants, peircings etc! More movement in the lip area-can't do the snarly thing for example-& yes-my norks look very odd indeed!

Right track yes-fixing OH MY YES! Laggy laggy laggy!

New creation of the character - is very excellent implemented, but there are some bugs and as the person who has played in a large quantity of games, at me has a lot of scepticism here.
In advance I apologize for not so good English.

I tried, only creation of the female characters.

I using Windows7 x86, Radeon HD4870 1024Mb GDDR5, and AMD Catalyst 10.12 drivers and graphic settings in eve-client setted to full.

Bugs first:
1. When i wear the bottom clothes, I can't remove it for see the legs without closes.
2. When i trying to change color of the skin, my choice isn't applied, while I don't move an age, freckles or scars regulators.
3. When i try to change color of Eyes, Makeup or its color opacity - nothing changes, while I won't select other variant and return to the previous.
4. Shades for Eyes: "UI_Caracter_Opacity" switch - cannot be used and modified. When mouse goes over this switch - the window disappears.
5. Not all colors presented in palettes, are applied to some hairdresses.
For example red color, applying only to 40-50 % of hairdresses.

Maybe it is a bug:
In the 2,3 and 4 cases, the sensation is created that instead of color change, hair try neither to jump up that nor that to become shorter. Shocked

Thoughts and other:
When we created characters in the old editor, we saw that different in races and bloodlines is very much and very strongly differ with features, skin color, clothes, hair, elements of hairdresses, various frames and hairpins in hair or on face, hair dressing, tattoos, clothes.

In the new editor, we see that all races are almost absolutely identical as "Dummy" and there is a sensation that uniqueness of appearance of races and bloodlines - is lost.
All bllodlines of Gallente Federation is very and very identical lice clones :(
I can't see the difference betwin them. It is not good i think.

It would be desirable to see possibility to edit width of a shoulder joint, especially for female characters.

It would be desirable to have possibility to edit angle of light by x,y,z coordinates, color of that light and it's intencity in portrait creation section.

Need more mobility of eyes, lips and it is more than muscles on the face, for example on cheeks.

It would be desirable to see more attributes belonging to is exceptional specific bloodline, but with possibility of a choice of the general-purpose vests and boots, shoes and other closes.

Generally, it would be desirable to see more choice.
Century of very high technologies, genetic planning, cloning, infomorph psychology, and dark Black color or even green color to a skin and red color of eyes iris, peoples haven't learned how to medically change it? shameful :]

The more the character is similar to the person, the the wide choice of accessories for it is required to the player.
I know it, because a sign with huge set of games where there is in details a creation of the character.
To take at least Sims3.

P.S.
And still, you have done EXCELLENT work! ExclamationVery Happy

P.P.S.
When i create new character and logg in to game, i can't see space or station environment (all is black), but i see Menues and Chat windows.
When i switched graphics to lowest in setings, and back to high all became good.

It really need a "stop to dance Frevo" option when sculping. Its just annoying when you carefully hover your mouse over an eye, the character turn her head and you click the ear.

I tried using my new (but of course, not comparable to desktops when it comes to graphics hardware) laptop for the character creation. It worked well enough to use for that purpose, however I have one suggestion; have visible sliders as an alternative for body morphing. Since for now people will be using the Carbon character system for portrait creation with whatever computers they have at the moment, and EVE still runs on even relatively weak computers rather nicely, so it might be a good idea to make the character creation more usable for them as well. Even though having no sliders sounds good, in practice the current system is just using hidden sliders, the mouse x and y axes. The sliders could for example be visible when a body region is selected. That would also help in seeing what the morphing extremes are - that was difficult to determine with the current system.

By the way, I'm not asking for tips on improving performance on laptops or so on, that is not the point here. I'm pretty sure those of us interested in detailed character creation will use as good settings as possible for it, despite any potential lag or weakness of hardware. Slow rendering isn't a big problem for something like that, however improved usability is always nice!

Oh yeah, and the Carbon character creation in general - awesome Very Happy
