As I understand it, the list of ships that CCP has given us so far stands at

a shuttle that does not go very fast (zephyr)

an industrial that does not hold very much (primea)

an exploration ship that cannot fit a probe launcher (echelon)

I find this hilarious.

Echelon is an awesome looking ship. Hopefully future ships get some of this design philosophy. Really, really like it.

Well they're gifts that not everybody gets.
In a year it will be a novelty item for some who didn't get it.
I doubt CCP is giving us ships to upset the "game balance" further.. Laughing

I'm betting they have some use for incursion sites. Maybe there will be hackable cans in them that need the sansha codebreaker and echelon combo to easily open or maybe if there is a trigger spawn this ship lets you bypass it.

I once got pieces of a Jove delegate and his space ship. Corp I was in at the time made us hand them all over assuming having a lot was the key to unlocking whatever it was that stuff did. Still don't know but I want my damn Jove bits back.

A punch in the face is free, but I wouldn't necessarily want it!

Give the OP a break. The Primae DOESN'T hold very much, unless you have nothing better to do than cart around your moon crap from all your PI which, if going by the posts over the last 6 months, is utterly dull and too much hard work.

And until there is a good reason given for the Echelon (and please do tell me - I've searched the forums and found nothing), that too is utterly useless (apart from being a magnet for gun fire).

So all in all, you get what you pay for. Therefore if it's free, expect nothing - you're probably better off without it...

..but if you beg to differ, then I'll happily sell you mine for, oh, lets say, 1B ISK?

EDIT: To correct the my horrifically ironic Freudian slip (thanks Chesty McJubblies). While I'm here - I hope this Echelon turns out to have some amazing use yet to be revealed by CCP - or could it be just a lump of Xmas coal!

As I understand it, I may be wrong and some of this is pure speculation, when you get an incursion in a system (not just a planetary assault but a full incursion) the sansha take over everything and install a device that increases their combat abilities while diminishing players combat abilities at the same time. To counter this you can hack a sansha thingy which, because I can't remember the name, I'll call fluid routers. When you hack these it alleviates the player's in system penalties a bit and makes the sansha in system a bit easier to kill. So perhaps the ecehelon will be the only ship capable of hacking these sites.

I'd much rather this. Noctis is great. It's a better gift than this and it isn't even free.

Primae is utterly worthless the moment you get a first level indy all of a day or two in. Hell, if they wanted to make an indy PI ship for new players to use without skills, make it a tutorial-given ship with no skill req, but still improved by Ore Industrial skill so that it's not a completely bad idea to use it after the trial is over. There, free and still usable by new players, but not worthless while still costing to gain additional functionality, (Skillbook cost and training time) and is replaceable.

Echelon... has one very tiny possible forced use, simply by making it impossible for any other ship to be useful for said role. So far all player speculation anyways.

Also, see this thread.

After 6 months of ocming in as "extra oranmanents these ships should be given bpos" or bpcs that can be repeatedly gathered.

CCP dont like introducing mainstream ships to often it upsets some useless idea of game balance.

Yep, and Echelon is one ugly mother...

But should we expect any more from the design team, most of the ships in Eve come under the ugly category.

So the codebreaker is used just like any other codebreaker or is it gonna be a Sansha related thing?

Well after the tier 2 battlecruisers, tier 3 battleships and Tech III cruisers I thought they hat least had the intention to make symmetrical, often decent looking ships. The Echelon is clearly a step back.

The Echelon, the Primae and the Zephyr are presents.

Novelties.

Original, pretty to look at, and not at all relevant in terms of gameplay, as they should be. Collect them like most of us do, or process/sell/thrash them.

You should not seriously expect a useful tool for free. If they send you a nice powerful ship, it ****es off those who build those ships in game, or it ****es off newbies that cannot enjoy the presents like all the other account payers.

Same with any other kind of useful thing. There's somebody out there who already builds those, who can't use those, or who just bought one in game and wasn't expecting one for free so he dished out his hard earned isk.

No. The only way to avoid confusion, rage and, broadly speaking, people behaving like poo-flinging crazed monkeys in the forums, is give a little tiny detail which is, on the whole, irrelevant.

Praise CCP for the amount of design and work it took them to make this little present, and take it for what it is: the digital equivalent to your aunt handing you a handmade pair of socks for Christmas.

Guess what — in other mmorpgs people buy themselves non combat pets or some other pretty useless stuff for real money.
In Eve you get newly designed ships FOR FREE and you complain about it.
This is hilarious.
