Hey,

So I'm a little unclear as to what I should progress to after the drake. I have decent missile skills, near perfect Engineering skills, and have flown a drake since approx. June of this year. Pretty much exclusively a drake too.

I am technically capable of flying a Cerberus, and 10 days from a Tengu or Onyx. I fly exclusively Caldari and have very little cross training (< 25k SP).

I would be flying in small-med size gangs in combat situations. Sometimes act as the FC. Should I get familiar with the Cerberus/Tengu/Onyx, or wait for maybe the Nighthawk?

For some reason it just seems a little nebulous past the Drake when it comes to Caldari ships. Tengu seems really expensive (skill and isk wise) to be blowing it on combat all the time. Cerberus/Onyx seem to either lack in DPS or staying power.

Some Caldari pilot advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Durin.

You could go Tengu for small gangs and solo or Onyx for tackle or Vuture for Command. The Cerb is just not as good as the Drake cept having a bit of extra range, smaller sig and little tank.

You could go ECM or get the Hawk.

Small to medium sized lowsec gangs you say?

Falcon it is Very Happy

Caldari have a "bit" of a problem when it comes to missiles and PvP. Basically, the only two DPS ships that are even remotely useful in lowsec are Drake and Raven (with Tengu being too expensive).

Cerberus is made of paper and can't tank much anything really. It's designed as a "sniper" ship, but guess what - missiles have delayed damage. The only use of Cerberus is popping frigates. Onyx might be a god choice as a tackler that can tank pretty good (forget about DPS here). Falcon is fun to fly and very useful for a small gang. Since it can warp cloaked, it's great for the FC position.

Go for a Falcon.

Onyx. It's not there for the DPS. If I were you I'd learn this and then NH.

Cerbs are fun and agile, just don't fly them like a drake since you won't have much of a buffer.

A tengu can be very good as long as you can afford the eventual loss(es).

As far as the Onyx... if you are in nul sec then yes.. this is a handy ship to have. It's true that it doesn't have a lot of dps but the purpose is to either bubble the gate or sit off it and function as a truly mobile drag bubble. (Ofc the bubble has to be running before they hit warp or it won't work.) Outside of nul you can run the scripted point but you might as well bring a different ship.

I too enjoy leading from a ship with tank made of paper-mache and with the reputation for being called primary above all else.

If you want to FC, be in an Onyx. If nothing else, the inifpoint works pretty good in lowsec and it would take a mouth-breathing knuckle dragger to call a Onyx primary.

Unfortunately, this is quite true. I'd recommend spending your learning sp refund on gunnery skills.

Nighthawk is like a drake but better.

Otherwise the a great choice is a Tengu (best T3)..

There is also nothing wrong with the Cerberus either. Sure it can't beat the drake (But not alot can...) It is much faster so it can be great for hit and run gangs.

So I'm hearing a lot of Onyx and Falcon references. Maybe those would be the way to go for now.

There's gotta be some form of sub-battleship vessel (other than drake) that serves well in a fleet.

My other thoughts were Basilisk or Vulture. Basilisk seems like it would stick out as an obvious primary, and Vulture seems like a less than stellar Nighthawk.

Thanks for the suggestions, all.
