Here is how a real world railgun works which is similar to how the railguns used in the game work. The only difference is that the in game version fire in a spacial environment at a faster rate of velocity.

hmm 50% of our goal, we are getting closer to our desired 60megajoule gun able to fire three times a minute lobbing shells excess of a 100 miles away.
