Lets face it, they [dual/double barrelled] are a bit poo... Mad

Rather than buffing them in the DPS department, or doing something silly like making them exactly 2x the smaller version using the same ammo (would play merry hell with relative DPS between classes), it may be worthwhile looking specifically at sig resolutions so that the ‘Large’ versions become better Battlecruiser/cruiser killers, and the ‘Mediums’ better at frigate killing…

To that end, given they tend to do ~19% more DPS for only ~2/3 the tracking, give them (approx) +33% the sig resolution of the smaller versions e.g:

Small/Medium Railgun variants

150mm Railgun II
Rate of fire
4,250 s

Medium/Large Railgun variants

250mm Railgun II
Rate of fire

Damage Modifier
3.3 x
Charge size
Medium
Accuracy falloff
12 km
Signature Resolution

Electron Blaster Cannon II Dual Heavy Ion Blaster II (--> It blatantly is two Heavy Ions on the model, and historically was known as a Dual Heavy Ion so let’s revert to that…)
Rate of fire
4,500 s
Charge Rate
1
Damage Modifier
2.1 x
Charge size
Large
Accuracy falloff
6 km
Signature Resolution
400 m 180 m
Optimal Range
4.80 km
Trackingspeed / Accuracy

I’m a Hybrid man myself so I won’t comment on the other turrets. If you wanted to be really funky change the +33% factor between racial turrets, maybe it would be too much for lasers so make it smaller? Or just keep it the same. Either way, it’s tweaking just one number to try and make these weapons more useful and fulfilling a distinct role.

The exact numbers you propose might not be perfect.

I do like the idea though.

So much that I was thinking about the same thing last night!

When they brought out weapon grouping I thought they might enable us to stack 2 lower size weapons on a big mount. This is almost there, and I like the idea. Always seemed odd that a dual 150mm took med charges.

Nice idea, I also think modifying sig res would be a good idea for the different calibre of same size weapons (1200/1400 artillery; 350/425 rails etc) to tweak the damage application as opposed to the raw DPS.

So weird, was just thinking about this stuff - consider that a larger warship like a battleship only gets a bonus for large weapons, but real world battleships also had smaller guns on them to deal with smaller, faster ships like destroyers. In eve, sure you can mount small or medium guns on your battleship, but your idea with making the smaller tier dual weapons better against smaller stuff is much better :D

I like the thought of a thorax with all dual 150mm being more useful against frigates, if the pilot desires such a setup.

I endorse this product. Smile

Weird. I was literally going to post this today, but fell asleep instead. Don't hold your breath though, since it wasn't actually a post, but a repost, as I was scrolling through some old posts of mine, and saw this idea. From 2005.

But yeah, this has been needed for a long, long time. Right now the lower tier guns are good only if you are worried about fitting, or cap stability.

Mega pulse laser 2 costs 2.3m. Needs ~1m in materials.
DHPII costs 900k-1m. Needs 800-900k in materials. I bet nobody even bothers inventing it.

Just a slight difference in demand, and tells the story about how these weapons are only ever used if the largest guns(except the tachyon, but thats a special case) cannot be fit without multiple fitting mods. They should be viable weapons in their own right, and pilots should face a serious choice on what to fit based on the expected enemies they'll face.

Edit: Tbh, I'd buff the tracking on those as well, as its only marginally better than the heavy versions, and significantly worse than the smaller sizes. Not a great deal, mind, but a 50% increase or thereabouts. Which I suppose is a lot, but.. They seriously need a buff, and thereby gain an important purpose.

Heavy Pulse - 0.08125
DHP - 0.0375
MP - 0.03375

I'd put the DHP up to something like 0.05625 base. You're still not going to be pegging frigs, but you'll hit cruisers nicely.
