Something that irritates me to no end?

Easy!!

* Could you PLEASE accept BOTH comma and period as the decimal separator in the sell/buy order dialog window?

Using numpad is like a second nature (no, I work in the other line of work), and it's outrageous that I would have to switch locality in order to have my decimal separator to work with Eve.

Must be easiest thing in the World too, client code that in the input field checks and converts commas into periods. Happiness and rejoicing ensues.

I just entered 100x price AGAIN by accident and paid the insane taxes for it - non-refundable too, since there's no cancel before first purchase, or 5 minutes or whatever...

* why, why WHY do the Caldari drones fire gunnery? Especially when the amarr ones use mini (fricken)laserbeams? Surely an explosive warhead sitting on the end of some sort of tube containing fuel would be more appropriate, considering the Wasp is 70m on the long axis. And while we're on the subject, the Wasp looks rubbish. Nothing Caldari-like about it.

* Bookmarks take 6 weeks to load.

* When you press the 'fitting' button on the left of your screen, the fittings window appears. When you press it again, it disappears. This is a great feature. Why is this small bit of programming not incorporated into the rest of the buttons? Srsly you guys.

* Local has GOT to go. Its been said before but i believe any system from 0.2 and below should be local-free. Maybe even if it was some sort of Sansha-only effect? A localized distortion of communications hardware, etc? Perhaps even something that players could fight over, similar to FW's bunkers n stuff?

* The ship scanner. Why do all ships have the same range? This is counter-intuitive. Why can tiny frigates 'see' the same range as a carrier?

* ECM Burst. 6km. Really? 6? Other than anti-drone use (which i've not tested), how on earth is this useful, when tacklers will orbit at >10km? I'd suggest concentric-ring orders of power, the further out you are the less likely that you will break the lock. This would mean that it could potentially still be useful all the way out to maybe even 15km, but it wouldnt be very likely. Or whatever.

* EVE Radio doesn't work in EVE.

* EVE splash screen, that shows space, nebula and currently that drone/sansha thing. Why isn't the EVE News service being displayed on an ingame billboard on that screen? That would be cool.

* Not being able to instantly/quickly unlock targets. A triple-click system would make this do-able and unlikely to be done accidentally by players in the heat of battle.

* In contracts, and i may be wrong, i see nothing that tells me whether the contract for a ship + 2 rigs is a ship FITTED with 2 rigs or a ship AND 2 rigs.

* Features & Ideas Board - there is some gold in there, hidden among tons and tons of pure elephant droppings. I don't know if this is the case, but i'd like to know if CCP have looked at some stuff and actually taken it to heart, or put it on a list of 'do-able' things?

* Wider Community Interaction Boards or something - CCP would say "hey guys we're gonna be working on X as our next bug-feature-fix", and the community would then break down into a miniforum JUST for that one thing, containing a Features & Ideas part, general complaints regarding it and proper testing threads too. At the moment, much of this seems very general, and could eventually give CCP an idea of where most people are interested in helping develop EVE.

* Further to previous point; Have CCP tell the community what specifically becomes a problem when someone suggests something that much of the community likes the idea of, or that CCP are thinking of changing/altering "but its going to affect X". Crowdsourcing etc.

* Perhaps a weekly "top 10 minor bugs" thread that CCP could look into and report on? Or that the community could vote as priories, meaning that the community would decide via statistics and averages which issues should be worked on over and above others. This may be too much involvement and potentially open to abuse.

* A timeframe for the ship updates (re Scorpion). Many people have many differing views on this, but it'd be nice if we knew as and when CCP will be revising ship models/etc. Kinda like looking forward to a weekend break.

* An in-game voice system that has the functionality of teamspeak/ventrillo. With a decibel cap, rather than just volume control, to compensate for some people that insist on chewing their microphones.

Whilst looking at the forums and checking out a few things, I'm reminded about a non in-game issue that has frustrated me from the beginning. Why does the search function on this site suck. When I search on 'Rattlesnake fit' for example, the first in the list is from 2009 and isn't so helpful when it shows 6 launcher hardpoints. Most, if not all, of the first page results are from 2009 and I got fed up looking for recent ones after page 4. Wouldn't it make sense for these to be in date order starting from newest to oldest? Extremely cumbersome

- the inbuilt calculator is not re-sizeable.

- mouse over labels for the sidebar options when in compact mode (to small on large screens)

- you can't cancel a targeting order until after the object is targeted

- science and industry jobs don't have an option to auto select the slot with the lowest que time of the station the print is in

Add some kind of loot all button when viewing cargo containers, not asking to dumb down eve here but this is annoying when you are salvaging like 60 ships (Select, Click Open, CTRL A, Click Drag, rinse repeat). It just seems very tedious click fest keyboard mashing in addition while tractoring and salvaging.

I have 4 characters with 6 planets each running elite command centers.
I really hate when I get through half the extractors on a planet with 16+ extractors and I accidentally double click the wrong time cycle forcing me to have to start all over. Why can't I just double click the extractor again since I haven't hit submit yet and redo the one extractors time cycle?

When will you modify your first or 2nd post to include an update list of all the papercuts people have been reporting? I would like to see it condensed to their general issues in a nifty list. Lot's of issues are starting to be repeated. Can we get an official papercut list so people dont repeat them by accident? :)

My most hated papercut (which is most likely already been said but im too lazy to read so many posts):

Crystal/Charge ammo needs to auto-reload and reloading needs to favor the used crystals..and stop randomly picking used or new ones. Im tired of switching between crystals then ending up with hundreds of used ones in my cargo. it should always automatically select used ones first when reloading. also, theres many times i dont notice that a crystal in my group of laser guns had burned out and therefore the entire group stopped firing. i notice after about 10 seconds (usually im busy doing other stuff at the time) then have to reload it. but since crystals RANDOMLY break, i never have any way of know when they are about to break. so it always catches me by surprise. ALL OTHER AMMO in the game has a counter so when its nearly to zero you can easily see that and be ready to reload it. Crystals just pop at any random time so you're always having to watch them like a hawk. gets annoying especially when multi-clienting.

TL;DR:

-Add % of durability left on crystals.
-If a group of crystals, always display lowest durability.

-or just- add Auto-reload feature for crystals

Another few:

* forums: why no search?
* forums: why no polls?
* (as said before) why do we have to logoff to change characters, there should be an option "change characters";
* why does the ship loot use the same size/placement as some of my containers - so every time I do missions I have to resize and relocate the loot windows and when I'm docked I have to relocate and resize the container windows?
* can't the cargo windows of all my ships be on the same spot?
* can't the game remember the location of my trade window instead of always putting it in the middle?
* (as said before) "untargetting"; can't we just control+click on the locked ships to unlock them?
* a way to update the skillqueue when nog logged in would be very nice;
* EVE-mail: can't we make the notifications just new maps in the EVE-mail like inbox, sent items? Two seperate tabs are kind of unnceccessary;
* (as said before) clicking a menu item to open it; clicking it again to close it;

I've got a really minor one that bugs me. Perhaps it's the OCD....

- The column in the wallet that displays your total ISK isn't right aligned like the income & outgoings column (can't remember their actual names) - bugs me no end.
- And also, at least one of the wallets search filters doesn't work, but can't remember which one it was without going and checking.

*why does my character button light up when I went to the certifacte planner to retrieve my certifactes, saying that I have retrieved my certifactes...I know I just retrieved them. In order to get rid of the light I have to close and open the character window.

*as said before, some way to see wich drone is being attacked instead of having to look at the shield meter to see if one is going down.

You can adjust what is shown through a menu somewhere- I think it's r-click on the neocom.

*This one might be new - When you do a manufacturing job and see a shortage, you can right click to 'view market details' but you can't interact with the window. I have to cancel the production and back all the way out in order to buy the stuff off the market, then start the whole thing over

*Why can't blueprint originals be blue and blueprint copies green or something?

*Starting as fleet commander and the delay to switch to squad commander - makes it hard to organize stuff quickly


*Why can't I run 9-10 invention runs at the same time?

*Amarr drones are slower and do less damage than the fastest drone

When setting up an invention, if I click on accept before it populates what it will invent after choosing the slot to use, it causes the load line to scroll to the end and never complete, making me have to reboot the client to start over again.

The issues with seeing your own items on the market and highlighting them would be nice, having to have another window open with your own sell orders and going back and forth is annoying. The worst part of it though is that when you change the amount of the orders, it makes two tabs and the icon on the left blink and have to click on everything again to stop the blinking.. although I can probably change some settings to fix that now that I think of it.

The options when right clicking on things has improved, but it would still be nice if it can be personally modified.

I have two irritating papercuts to add to the list for whomever is counting:

When doing "show info" on a player, I generally want to see the employment tab by default. However, depending on whether the pilot has their bio tab filled out or not, there are a variable # of tabs available, and the default tab doesn't remember which tab I want, just that I want the 4th or 5th one from the left.

Easy solution: Move the bio tab to the far right instead of far left. Or - always present the same # of tabs whether they are filled out or not.

The other annoyance is the color of the drag boxes/arrows on scan probes changing and becoming invisible depending on what angle you're viewing them. Just make the damn things bright blue like the spheres, stop shading and lighting them, and be done with it. Artificial computer interface icons should not be subject to light and shadow effects.

an option to merge/combine damaged crystals (100% ones then saleable)
please reload with the most damaged crystal (laser and miners)

visibility of crystal damage when not loaded
volume of selected items should be displayed somewhere
Deactivate all beneficial mods if target's GCC status changes (with a "do not ask again" option)
"You can't do that because you're cloaked". doing anything to prompt that under gate-cloak should remove gate-cloak.

Balancing- small calibre/dual & quad guns should hit smaller things a lot easier (tracking & sig res)
Balancing- Hybrids
Balancing- defender missiles

Fitting- "strip rack" rather than strip whole ship
Fitting- repackage (not stack) all undamaged items as they are removed from fitting

Market- icon for own/corp orders
Market- some market groups need splitting (armour plates etc)
Market- T2 BPOs on market- how many T2 BPOs now exist that can be put onto the market (researched ones can't, remember). I've no problem with the BPOs in themselves, but they're causing clutter

Art- sensor booster effect too intrusive
Art- cyno effect
Art- engine trails
Art- Battleship gun models: too small. use cruiser/dread for reference as to how big they should be in relation to the ship.
Art- all highslots mods should have a model, even if launchers just have a disk located over the correct place on the ship model.
Art- blinding space clouds
Art- POS not looking cool

S&I- should show job slots filled eg 4/5 on blueprint tab.
S&I "jobs" window "owner" drop-down needs an "all" option
S&I- copy option for material requirements & shortages
S&I- invention needs a "number of runs" like the other industry jobs (ME/PE research, copying, manufacturing all have this)
S&I- no of runs field needs to be wider (5 characters)
S&I- needs to be able to look in containers (maybe specific types with only minerals/salvage/ice etc allowed?)
S&I- neads a filter/search on both blueprints tabs

Drones- Text "(damaged)" next to drones with armour/hull damage in drone bay so I know which ones to re-launch and rep
Drones- no way to see drone stats with skills/mods included

database- Attributes order in show info. for example drone info is all over the place. reorder it if possible.

Alts- character change requires password
Alts- skill training should pause any training on alt (with confirmation)

Esc menu- slider please for camera distance/volume dropoff
Esc menu- When hotkeys are also re-vamped, please have menu options to select what double-click does (double click in on a ship in space does X, double click on item does y, double click on character does z)

Menus- Remove waypoints should be more accessible
Menus- ability to cancel target lock
Menus- Some context menus do not update while in planet mode
Menus- Please have a "smallest orbit at current max velocity" option in the "set orbit distance" menu

missions- Interbus LP (need 1 store)
Missions- missions requiring fits not feasible in PVP
missions- agent conversations (holdover from old system): a lot of the agent text starts in the middle of a conversation. Also, instead of "you know you haven't finished that last mission" how about "Have you finished that last mission?"

Map- ability to "set destination" to region (closest system)
Map- "show route should list system sec status next to name
map- add an option for "prefer systems with faction standings greater than" with a slider/numerical field

bookmarks- description field (not name) isn't readable once bookmark created. either make it so or remove it..

Assets- search to include can/ship name

This is like this because of wardec issues; there's no performant way to update tags etc on ships instantly, which would make this an easy way to bait people into attacking a non-wartarget and getting CONCORDed.

This is to do with travelling salesman or similar, IIRC. It's a fundamental math problem that there's no easy solution to that anyone's aware of.

Probably because it involves doing collision detection along the path between two ships, every time every ship in the fight fires a weapon. I wouldn't expect this to help with the lag situation.

Good idea Akita, I hope this gets read and acted on.

My personal niggle is the inconsistency across the interface:

Eg: The wallet has a "Settings" tab, Eve Mail has a fiddly little triangle.

Solution: If its a window, give it a "Settings" tab. If the settings are in a limited space like drones or neocron, make it a recognisable symbol like an "S" in a circle like a copyright symbol. THEN.....make that "S" symbol the first letter of any "Settings" tab to aid recognition and consistency.

Voila! Universe wide peace is achieved as everyone was so pent up and angry about not being able to find stuff and then looking like a noob when someone says "Right click the little fiddly triangle thingy!"

No, does not need updating AFAIK but it could be made more prominent or included in a newbie guide on frontpage. Took me 2 years to notice I can reload guns with CTRL+R and that was by accident. I tried to assign that combo to drones. Most games have manuals with key-commands, Eve doesn't. Like anyone is gonna browse 1000s of evelopedia pages to find out.

The in-game searches are frustrating!

If I want to search through my entire assets, I have an absolutely perfect search. I type in a fragment of what I want, I type in the category instead of the name, and I get what I want.

Then I go to market. I want to look at all elite command centers. But I can't! There's no wildcard for the search (that I've found). Elite command centers have a naming format that goes: "Elite <type> Command Center" which means that I either have to search for "command center," which leaves me looking at the entire range of command centers available, or "elite" which leaves me looking at random stuff ranging from command centers to implants. I WANT to type in "elite command center" and get the list of different elite command centers to buy! But no, I get a blank page instead. I know search functionality can be better than this!


And then there's the new meta category. Why, when I sort by meta level, do I have the following choices: all the zero-metas on top, or all the no-metas on top? I want meta 4 on top, that is why I am sorting by meta! But, no matter what I do, the meta 4 are ALWAYS in the middle! Infuriating!

It's not exactly a novel problem, it's been around as mathematical problem for many years and it's been quite thoroughly researched, especially after the advent of computing machines, since it has so many useful real-life applications.

To find *THE* single most efficient route, indeed, it's very computationally intensive.
However, in real-life situations you don't NEED the best solution, you just need a better one than selecting them by hand quasi-randomly (well, you always want a better one, but getting a 20% total length reduction for a few moments of waiting is certainly worth it, but waiting a few hours for a 1% additional reduction, not so much).
To find a "good enough" route, quite a few corner-cutting methods can be employed so that you can find a satisfactory solution in very little time even when hundreds of waypoints are selected. Evem the wikipedia page has some of the more commonly used computationally cost-cutting algorithms listed.

I am curious what approach is used right now in the client for the optimizer.
I am almost willing to bet it's doing a brute force solution, considering how long it takes (i.e. it calculates all possible routes and then picks the one with lowest jump count - guaranteed to offer the optimal solution, but takes the longest).

Why is the un pin button on the right when you always need to use it if something is pinned and you resize the window and it is halfway out of frame needs to be a drop down ability or be in the upper left corner.
