One question...

People mention stuff like; "Well i always fit buffer and speed cause I'm an uber cool p1r4te Umm'k"

Well, surely, for armor (at least), the two are mutually exclusive> No?

If you put a huge dirty great big armor plate on your ship, you slow it down. A T1 frigate being shot at by a cruiser might survive 5 seconds without a plate, 10 with a plate, but with the plate it is slower and less agile and easier to hit, so it takes more DPS. So you don't get the full advantage of the plate AND GTFOs are harder.

Unless I missed something.

Yes, this is basically why shield buffer ships are popular for solo. You can fit decent buffer + (gank and/or nano based on slots).

With armor, you can only realistically choose one of the three

Since it states 'for inexperienced player', I will say go buffer. Why? Being inexperienced means pvp will be more difficult for you in general so simple is better at the start. Getting into a fight without 'approach', getting your orbit set correctly, etc. will take most of your time. Having to worry about pulsing your shields to maintain cap is the last thing a new player needs to worry about.

I'm not arguing buffer is better than active but it is easier which makes it more ideal for inexperienced pvp'ers. I'm speaking as a somewhat inexperienced PVP'er who has found buffer gives me a better chance to operate my ship in a way which gives me a chance to survive/win the engagement.

Once you gain experience, you will then be able to handle the ship better which then gives you the option to explore active tanking.

Seems that with the FOTM, I am gonna have to go from Amarr/Caldari to Minmatar so I can fly Hurricane/Cyclone etc to win in pvp... Time to start traing up autocannons...

Side Note

Dear CCP, can I have more SP for Christmas? I don't wanna train the next 3 months to fly a ship properly Very Happy

Love,

Kenerian.
