Hey all,

With Incursion part 1 you can see alot of cool ships in the market, some of which i didn't even know existed. After looking into it, I found out these are reward ships, only coming into the game in extremely limited circumstances.

My particular interest was the Freki; a single 50-run BPC was given out to an alliance iirc. Now, I'm all for these cool tournaments and special rewards, but I shutter to think of 50 of these babies sitting in some hanger collecting dust. Aint right!

Do these ships ever become mainstream? Like, does the BP ever become available? Seems it should enter the market, maybe as an LP reward, like a year after the prize was given. Or maybe it should go out as a BPO and the winning alliance can sell them?

At this point... so far only the primae/noctis hull ...

Other than that limited prizes have been limited and prize like.

In short: No

CCP hasnt re-released any of the ships in the past for mainstream I.E the following:
Golden and silver Magnate
Guardian vexor
Imperial Geddon
Imperial Apoc
State raven
Republic Tempest
Interbus shuttle (gallente shuttle hull)
+ the 4 new tournament ships

Its a damn shame, i wouldnt say no to the state raven

concerning the noctis. Sure it has Primae hull, but it serves a different purpose. just like all the other ships I listed. We still dont have any zephyr/apotheosis hulls

That's a shame.

I think the idea behind these Prize ships is fundamentally flawed; who will ever use them, for anything, when they are so valuable as dust collectors? For instance, I saw a post with some guy offering like 15 billion for a Freki o.O

The better route would be to give the BPCs as prizes, like it is now, however it should be with the explicit knowledge that the ship will enter mainstream production a year later. This would mean the winners could run around and actually enjoy fighting/dieing in the prizes without "wasting" the prize.

My .02 isk anyways...

If I recall correctly, some of the Frekis and such have been killed in comedy ways so at least they aren't ALL sitting in a hanger.

At least 3 of the 4 have been used for PvP, with Frekis dying in the last alliance tournament and a Utu being lost to a Daredevil.

I think they should be made mainstream at some point. Maybe not only a year after being rewarded, though. Maybe something like three years after the first run, they become BPO's at loyalty stores; or possibly as birthday gifts for toons that reach a certain age (like five years old, maybe).

They would still be valuable as heck, but at least everyone would eventually have a chance to get one.

Mimir has a video already, the golden magnate was ganked back in the days, a few gaurdian vexors has been used in pvp, pve and getting ganked(50 was made?) the few bs's has changed owner but dunno if they ever have been taken out of a hangar. most of the sub bs ships has been used but they are super gankmagnets as we all know so the last few are safed! i think that the Opus lux ship has been used aswell and ganked, not 100% tho

Yeah, I read about those being lost. And, because they're unique, I think it's a real shame.

Personally, I don't think that you should ever be punished for playing with your prizes! It's like "Alright, good job! Here's a ship, just don't fly it unless you want to throw away a 15 billion ISK piece of equipment! Cheers!"

It's a flawed system when the prizes cannot be used, or rather when they are it's a HUGE financial risk.

I agree! Although I want to see it in LP stores, having it as a one time birthday present type deal would keep the same problem with giving it out as a reward; it's still indispensable and you'd be stupid(I don't care how skilled you are) or incredibly rich to fly one in combat. That's not how it should be.

Yeah, even if I had a Freki, I wouldn't dare fly it even in high sec because you'd be suicide ganked out of spite. Someone just wants to pad their killmail collection with a unique ship. If they were introduced into LP stores a year from being awarded, the players who received them would not think twice about flying in them!

I made a pitch for the Zephyr last week, make it a purpose built scanning ship that stands a decent chance of uncloaking stealthed/"unscannable" ships.

That's a complete fallacy. The only Gold Magnate that ever existed in Eve was lost in pvp action. The Only. Unique. The no more gold Magnate. It has ceased to be. The Breath of Life it once had etc etc.

So people take them to pvp, those people just have more guts then some others. Like me, I know I wouldnt take it but would just sit on it waiting to instead sell it to someone else who most likely repeats the process.

Yup, read it. Its an interesting idea, the Zephyr deffinetly needs a "standard" issues

Oh, I understand it happens, it just seems, to me at least, a problem because the majority of people will not actually fly them. Even the Freki/Utu that have been lost was in an attempt to get more unique ships in a tournament.

What's the point of releasing 50 unique ships when 40 or so of them will never get taken for a spin? Even if I were awarded a ship like the Freki, I'm not sure if I even want it because I know it will never get taken out. Ill jump in it occasionally to outfit it or show it off, but I'd hesitating even undocking for fear of getting suicide ganked.

If I knew that my reward would hit mainstream in a year or three, I would proudly run around in PvP and have a blast! Be the first one to get a kill with it or allow others to get a kill. How cool would it be to be the first person to get a kill in a Freki?

Pretty cool, methinks, but that's me =P

People have gotten kills in these ships as well as gotten killed in them. Honestly I would rather them be kept the way they are, more ships is good... however many of these rare specialty ships have bonuses that are quite amazing and if they were regularly available they would overshadow ships already in the game.

They should continue to add new ships to the lineup though and I assume they plan to given the recent design a ship contest they hosted on deviantart. Since they picked a ship that was designed with the idea of being a second tier three battleship for minmatar I would hope to think they will include second tier three battleship for the other three races as well when it is introduced.

On the subject of making a mainstream version of the special probe ship and giving it the ability to probe cloaked or otherwise unprobable ships I think it would be a poor design choice... if anything is added to probe out these ships it should be a probing module for poses and player stations that allows people to keep their home systems clean... but not some mobile all seeing eye.

They are trophies. They are unbalanced and so cannot be released generally in game.

CCP do not intend for them to be used. It's quite clever:
"Here's an uber model of a ship. It's so rare(expensive) you won't fly it but everyone will want one!"

Major respect to the few who have flown one.
I can't think of a better trophy for the alliance tournament.

And yes I want a Freki Laughing

I took my Interbus shuttle out the other day which is the cheapest rare ship that isn't a gift for everyone ship. Goes for less than 200m. 4 people went suicide on it before I parked it in New Caldari 1 jump away. I almost dies so no. They stay in station

It could be balanced if Utu cost 200 mil.

Kind of like t1 frigs and interceptors. Inty can do everything that a t1 frig can do, much better. But people still fly t1 frigs on regular basis, cause of the cost. And once you kill an Utu pilot a few times, he'd be broke and forced to use lesser ships.

I got an idea. Why not distribute 50 of the SHIPS not BPC runs to the winning corp. They can then distribute the ship as they would the BPC builds.

But if the player who owns the ship (the one on the loss mail) loses it then he has the option to talk to a NPC in a faction hub (Pator NPC would give you back Mimirs and Frekis... Caldari Prime - Raven state issue etc etc). This NPC would ask you if you want your ship reissued for a price. This price would be more than there worth on the battlefield (Frigate - 150m Cruiser - 300m Battleship - 600m). This would allow the ship to still be super rare but also allow the elite few who own one to acually use it in combat without being too overpowered.

It would also allow the ship to maintain the insanely high resale value they have to day (probably even more because its a USEABLE ship being sold)

I'd rather that they take the Utu and Freki out of the market. I don't really want one, I can't afford one, stop wasting my time with an out of print item that's super rare. Only faction ships which are available for purchase with LP should be in the market.

When one wins a gold medal (an actual gold medal, not the knock off crap), does that person go out and spend the gold?

No. It's an ornament. A work of art and a showcase of one's prowess in a field one has nearly perfected.

That doesn't mean it CAN'T be used as currency (Like the Frekis have been in Alliance Tournament or the Mimir video (Which is flippin' awesome)) but it's more-so destined to be a trophy, something unattainable and thus invaluable except to those that put values on such objects themselves.

I'm not going to drink a bottle of scotch that has been aged for 100+ years. It'd taste like wood. It's not meant to be drunk. It's meant to be admired and softly caressed once in a while.

And if the world is blowing up, then **** it. Cheers! It's not worth being an ornament anymore if no one will be around to admire it.

Wait what was I talking about? I always end up talking about scotch.

there are a lot of one off custom ship hulls that are a shame they never see light of day, but i also understand the gift nature. My proposal is give these ships a custom hull color like they did with the gold and silver magnate to later be released as a standard color for the ammar frig. Then release the ship as a standard hull. I wouldn't be adverse to having them have similar specs, but let the prize ships have one special trait.

You missed the point. These ships will get suicide ganked in high sec by people who are just trying to have a laugh. So it's beside the point that some have been lost by people dumb enough to pvp in them. The complaint the poster is making is that you can't even take the ship out of a station anywhere in the eve universe. Valid complaint? I dunno, it is sorta lame that you will never see any of these ships, but it would require a redesign of fundamental aspects of the game to prevent such things.
