I think part of the problem consists of people perceiving High Sec space as they would a PVE server in WoW when in reality there is no place in EVE that is free from the potential of PVP. High Sec is simply PVP space that has a defense force (CONCORD) that will react to, not prevent, criminal actions. This reaction is typically enough to act as a deterrent against crime, however combine immortality and fabulous prizes and there is no more deterrent! Anyway, it's best to think of High Sec as you would a modern society. The police are there and they will deal with criminals, but they will always be reactionary. The crime will be committed before they respond, and thus you are always vulnerable to attack. Therefore you should always undock your ship with the assumption that you could, at any moment for any reason, be attacked, regardless of where you are, who you are, or what you are doing. |

Adding to the analogy, you would never go out in public with something very expensive or irreplacable that can be easily taken from you. Same with EVE Online. Fly only what you can afford to lose and make sure your clone is always updated. Pehk |

Quote: ??? Who posted a chatlog? I composed a 'hatemail' to all these Hulkageddon participants for griefing me for the last week by refusing to shoot at me and forcing me to mine.
it's sad when griefers have to write their own hate-mail to get enough "tears". |

Edited by: Lien Sekari on 26/02/2011 16:58:55 Edited by: Lien Sekari on 26/02/2011 16:57:51 I have two questions that have been on my mind since I first heard of Hulkageddon
1. What is the problem miners have to do something else for a week or two if mining is what they usually do all the time anyway?
2. Why do PvPers/Pirates have so much anger towards people who mine or run missions.
I'd be sincerely interested in people answering those questions honestly.
Disclaimer: I don't mine or do much industry apart from replacing my ammo and ships. I do missions, scan for plexes and hunt people in lowsec, but I have never shot at an industrial ship or miner because I have this (maybe misplaced) military mindset of not engaging civilians. I don't hate pirates or griefers, and I don't hate miners either. I do wonder why others have such attitudes. |

I suspect an answer to (1) for the non-bots is that they have chosen not to train up skills for missioning or PI or R&D or have minimal skills and so the prospect of the time to beef those up may be a factor. I was chatting with an ex corpie who was exactly in that boat - each to their own! re: (2) again another ex corpie loves the PVP side and a little pirating and he waatient enough with me and my industrialist ways but every now and again would lecture me about "having" to learn PVP. We got dec-ed recently so I got my alts to buy PVP module skillbooks and got enough to fit up a fugly looking PVP ship that would have no doubt got kicked fro here to WOW!!! I think it's down to: what you want to do in the game, what you have TIME to do in the game, and crucially can you get your mind around the fact that if you "lose" a ship it's not the end of the world. Game time faff, yes - absolutely - but I guess both sides (miners and pirates) feel their game play is right. |

I spoke too soon (I was praising Minmatar pirates for having the stones to engage.) Many more hours of mining in my hulk in Abudban and Osoggur (0.5, right next to Amamake) and no more gank attempts.
I'll be in Balle for the next few hours (until 23:45) if you're interested.

Orca + 2 x Hulk v Drake + Typhoon. I don't know what this guy was trying to do. He targeted the Orca, with its 1/4 million EHP, rather than the Hulks, which were able to escape. So all in all it was a bit of a fail, as he popped to Concord before he's even managed to drop the Orca's shields 3k. I felt sorry for him, as I was looting his wreck :(. |

Ships killed =/= Exhumers killed, therefore the map is pointless. If I wanted to look that up I can see it in game without having to watch a crappy quality video. Your argument is invalid. Thank you for playing. |

k, to make your point valid, hulkageddon would hve to be ONLY targetting Hulks (which theyre not), ther would have to be no greifergeddon (caused by hulkageddon) and youd have to tell me how you show last hulks destroyed in 24 hrs (irrelevant because thats not the only ship being killed). Oh... thanks for playing. |

I completely endorse this event, I only wish it would run months at a time.
That being said you guys have completely missed the Outuni system (only 4 jps from Jita). It routinely has 50 plus at the ice belt. I don't even believe the macros slowed down when Hulkageddon started.
Keep up the good work.

Amazing event. We livestreamed our final gank (http://chinx.griefwatch.net/index.php?p=details&kill=9108) outside Jita 4-4 that occurred right under the noses of our WT's (The 0rphanage), was fun as hell, we laughed like maniacs. Thanks for arranging for this Helicity! |

As the only staff for Hulkageddon who is awake at the moment (Okay..I am the only staff that Hulkageddon has)...Thank you all for participating. It looks like the killboard api fetch has been stopped. So what is going to count, is sitting safely in Helicity's databases. Preliminary stats: 843 Exhumers Down for a total of 159.5 billion isk in damages. 504 Industrial ships Down (Noctii are in this category) for 18.6 billion 674 Mining Barges Down for 10.7 billion isk. 30 Transports for 7.5 billion isk. 1 Jump Freighter for 5.5 billion isk. 6 Orcas down for 2.4 billion isk. 2 Freighters for 1.5 billion isk. 1 Rorqual down for 1.8 billion isk. 1357 Capsules destroyed, that's a lot of scrambled eggs. That's a total of 2061 ganks reported to us.. for a whopping total of 207.5 billion isk worth of ships destroyed and items dropped. (Numbers are approximate depending on possibly one last API pull to catch anything up to that last minute..) Winners should be able to be determined tomorrow/whenever Helicity gets around to it since we don't have to go and verify every kill mail again. I'd have a preliminary prize report except Helicity doesn't let me near the DB |

After the final pull and cleanup, I end up with:
Rorqual: l Capsule: 1393 Exhumer: 864 Freighter: 2 Industrial: 506 Orca: 6 Jump Freighter: 1 Mining barge: 676 Transport: 30 Echelon: 1
3480 Ships killed (212.77B ISK)
Note that noctis is counted as an industrial in the eve database.
I'm very pleased with the result!
Even with two months notice, and the scary new thing of API posting, thousands grace our killboard. It seems people do not learn ;)
