I really wish people would stop talking about skill in relation to video games.
If you want to feel skilled, go pick up a trade or something. If you want to have fun or challenge yourself, play games. |

Impressions are: 1. Desync bugs, nice being slashed by a invisible entity. Oh, that's the creature that's 20 meters away that's looking at me but it's not moving! Oh shi...it's warping around me back and forth...amg...the NPC is Haxing!
2. Lots, and, lots, of, grinding. Darkfall has a similar open ended skill path as eve, only catch is: skillups come from actually doing the action. Ie, you slash a poor NPC with a sword, and every once in a while, you get a little skillup (about the same skillup speed as grinding corp rep in eve, maybe a faster at the start, but snail speed at the business end)
3. Friendly damage, think everybody shoots FoF's
4. A lot more limited sandbox. Realistically, you can only be a predator, or prey. There's no other option (as in trading, manufacturing, science, exploration, stuff...etc...etc). There are rudiments for a few of these, but it's like comparing bow-n-arrows (Darkfall) to a orbital strategic nuclear missile "Defcon 5" deathstar (EvE)
What swung it in EvE's favor for me was the skill system. I CBA grinding skills in Darkfall (while online mind you) for 1 year, to MAYBE stand a chance against a "Vet", who used previous loopholes to afk grind up his skills and attributes. I "CAN" do meaningful stuff in EvE from the get go, not so in darkfall. And if I HAVE to increase a EvE skill, I can do so while offline, thanks to the skill system.
And no, I didn't have any issues with FPS skills, I regularly play other FPS games at a little below competitive level, and I have excellent motion prediction, aiming and twitch skills.
EvE is just better. |
