Inb4 "train better skills".

I'm trying to do level 3 missions out of ordion. I'm in a harbinger. I've been looking up each mission as i take it and fitting appropriate resists. i am completely bored of lvl 2 missions. they are tedious and don't pay very well.

my problem is this. I warp into the first deadspace room. frigs aggro me, fly in, i blow them up one at a time. after the first couple are down they start just kiting me away. eventually i get them down. i then fly at an excruciatingly slow pace around 40km to the acceleration gate. i activate it. when i get to the next room, four battleships(!) target me and start volleying cruise missiles at me. my shields are stripped in about 20 seconds and there are frigs all over me which i can't hit with my lasers (they don't track fast enough) or guns (too small a sig radius). i deploy drones. i activate armor repairers, damage controls, armor hardeners. i focus on one frig at a time. i'm getting chewed down 80 armor hp per cruise missile from multiple targets. i am down to 10% armor and damage starts bleeding through to my hull. i recall my drones and warp out, having killed one, maybe two frigs if i'm REALLY lucky.

so i dock at the station. my cap gets recharged. i undock. i spend two minutes letting my armor reppers work. i redock to recharge my cap. i undock, and start the whole process over again. by the time i get all the frigs down, i can chase down one battleship at a time, overtaking it 10m/s since they have a max speed almost what i have with an AB on, getting turned into swiss cheese by the rest of the battleships in the room since cruise missiles have an effectively infinite flight time (over 2 and a half hours) and i can't possibly outrun them anyway. by the end of the mission i've spent four hours warping in and out, blowing up one ship at a time, and then i still have to salvage.

please, any help at all. what can i do RIGHT NOW to make these missions go faster? training mechanic 5 isn't what's holding me back. I've tried lasers, railguns, if i had launcher hardpoints on my harbinger i'd try those.

this is my fit at the moment:
high:
[Heavy Pulse Laser I] (infrared M)
[Heavy Pulse Laser I] (infrared M)
[Heavy Pulse Laser I] (infrared M)
[Heavy Pulse Laser I] (infrared M)
[Heavy Pulse Laser I] (infrared M)

Medium:
[Patterned Stasis Web I]
[Small Tapered Capacitor Infusion] (cap booster 75s)
[10MN Afterburner]

Low:
[Medium I-A Polarized Armor Regenerator]
[Medium Armor Repairer I]
[Damage Control II]
[appropriately typed Armor Hardener I]
[appropriately typed Armor Hardener I]
[Reactor Control Unit I]

I'm using tech I drones that deal appropriate damage and losing a lot of them.

i've also got a full battery of 720mm Gallium I cannons with carbonized lead ammo.

I'm just about to break 2m sp.

help. i'm saturated with frustration.

first off, put CCC rigs on it, you should also put another pulse in the high, you only need 1 T2 armor repairer, drop the stasis web for a drone tracking enhancer or a Tracking computer w/ script, at this point you should have T2 drones, drop the cap booster and maybe the afterburner for cap rechargers

what is a CCC rig?

Depending on the ship class, there's 3 different sizes of rigs available. They also come as Tech 1 or Tech 2. The CCC rig listed below is a Tech 1 large size for Battle Ship class and higher.

I'd look into fitting up Tech 2 modules asap.

If you're going to use a Cap Recharger, at least fit a Medium and use largest charges so you get the most duration. If the Small is doing the job, there's a Cap Recharger that will do it for less consumable outlay.

Battleships in a lvl 3 mission ? Shouldn't happen, what's the mission name ?

4 Battleships??
There is only one lvl 3 with ONE battleship you have to kill. Are you sure you need to kill those/ Its not a lvl 4?

heres a simple mission fit i threw together for someone else a while ago, should be fairly easy to fit, but i dont know how your fitting skills are.
It also should have enough cap, but your battlecruiser skill will be a big influence there.
Also, train engineering and electronics to 5 if you havent, you really dont need a reactor control unit on this ship like this.

[Harbinger, New Setup 1]
Medium I-a Polarized Armor Regenerator
N-Type EM Hardener I
N-Type EM Hardener I
N-Type Thermic Hardener I
N-Type Thermic Hardener I
Heat Sink I

Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners
Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Array

meta 4 medium lasers are very expensive iirc
anyways good fit
i think there is only mission with battleship, and i would always decline it, i took a BS in that mission and had issues killing it.

basicly i would decline those types of missions,
if your losing drones your an idiot, recall them every new spawn then release again
your on the right track every1 had mission issues at one point,
train energy skills up if your amar, such as energy management to 4.

You can always put beams on you know for range. Yeah yeah yeah, you won't be as much of an EFT warrior with beams, but they work just fine in 3's. Problem with running down ships solved.

And I hate to say it, but using meta 1, tech 1 mods is always gonna be painful in 3's.

You dont need t2 modules to do lvl 3 missions, but using higher meta level lasers will help a lot. Beam lasers also are nice for range, especially if you which crystals according to range, however pulse and an AB are great too.

I used a fit similar to the one posted above, though only 3 hardeners and the leftover low can be used for an additional heat sink or a lowslot cap recharger.

I use heavy beams on all my pve fitted harbs <3

edit: The 4 x BS mission would be Angel Extravaganza lvl 3 bonus room. There is a trick to solo them in a harb which I used to do when my skills were really poor:

- warp into bonus room: kill all frigs / small fry, stay out of tower range
- set 5 x hobgoblin 1 on one of the battleships when they have closed in on you, warp out.
- make your way back in again (speed mod helps due to all those gates)
- notice how the bs's are still shooting at your drones even though they are sitting still now (they hit those very poorly)
- drop a fresh set of hobgoblins, have them attack first before you fire yourself to draw more aggro off you.
- most battleships will switch aggro to your new drones after the old ones died
- engage the ones that are attacking you first (if any)
- profit

Well theres your problem.

get focused medium lasers. dont use a cap booster, get a cap recharger, drop the reactor control for another hardener/capacitor power relay. get CCC rigs.

/thread.
