Why even have elected officials who vote on things for us if we have the technology now to vote on everything ourselves?

Do you really want 4chan voting on key issues? Razz

I think the Church groups would easily neutralize anything 4chan voted on. Except maybe age of consent laws. They'd have something in common with certain Christian sects there.

You guys have way more faith in the average elected official than i do. Half of them would allow corporations to use your back yard as a toxic waste dump for a cool million, and the other half is holding out for a condo somewhere.

I know that's what I'd do if I were in office.

Maybe I should run for CSM Razz

Ballots should be set up like quizzes. Each vote question set up like a test question regarding the legality of the law or proposition being voted on.

If you get the answer wrong, the vote does not count.

Perhaps in 2000 years there will be another attempt at a republic where that will be tried.

I don't know how laws are created elsewhere, but here the proposal for a law has to go through a review to determine if it is constitutional. If it is determined not to be, it has to either be changed to conform or go through a much more demanding process to be passed. I don't see a reason why such pre-screening couldn't or shouldn't be done even if people got to vote directly on the law. The governing machine isn't going to disappear magically even if you get rid of the representatives. The laws aren't going to implement themselves, so you might as well take advantage of the system to also help create a pre-screening system where trolling/unconstitutional proposals have almost zero chance to even get to the voting stage.
