I was directed here by EVE technical support to ask this question.

Why do "Warp Scramblers" shut down jump drives? Shouldn't there be a module called a "Jump Drive Scrambler"? Seems that the two types of drives should be seperate in operation and function.

This question is directed at either a player who's encounted this question before or an EVE DEV... if you're about to troll this question or send some sort of what you'd call a comic reply, please move on.

Thank you!

Because it would be bad for game balance if you had to bring a specialised module to stop a capital escaping.

Jump drives rely on the warp core's functionality to work. Thus, no warp, no jump.

Because Caps are already sufficiently powerful thanks you.

More than I would say.

Your loss is not a reason to change the game, no matter how butt-hurt and weepy you may be.

Thank you for the replies... I see where some of you are drawing inferences that the jump drive requires the warp drive to function... are there any official references from CCP on this or are these responses your own thoughts?

As far as game balance, a freighter isn't much of a threat ;)

Obviously not but that doesn't mean you should have a get out of jail free card.

One thing you need to understand is that game balance isn't designed to fit the lore, the lore is designed to fit the game balance. The lore says that jump drives rely on the warp drive (or that warp scrams disrupt the jump drive) BECAUSE CCP believes that freighters (and other caps) being uncatchable without a heavy interdictor would be unbalanced.

Game balance extends far beyond 1v1 duels between combat ships.

Scientific Articles

According to the lore, warp drives are based upon the stargate technology (they create mini-wormholes to "bypass" space and arrive at the destination)... jump drives are also based upon the stargate technology but are more mobile and limited than the actual stargates.

Maybe change the name from "Warp Disruptor/Scrambler" to "Guidance Disruptor/Scrambler" since the item description says it muddles the computer's ability to focus on the destination.

Then, there's no less confusion.

There's no confusion. The name is fine. You can abandon the sinking failboat now.
