Cruise Raven MissionBear. What I should do next involves T1 frigates and RvB, FW or Agony. But what to train next to provide me the most opportunities for careers? I don't have a specific career goal but think I would like to try WH, small gang and 0.0 sub cap before I leave EVE. I have no skills or interest in solo PvP and expect to pay the bills with solo hisec L4s. So I fall back on "the pick a ship and derive your training plan from it" strategy. Which is why this is in S&M not skills.

I can fly Raven with great cruise misile skills; no torps. No sentries/heavies but Drones/DI/CDO/SDO to 5. Buzzard but CO/[email protected]

The WH recruitment threads I read tend to want armor tanks. And the 0.0 battle reports I read tend to be armor HACs (or supercarriers) I don't think cross-training to get different resist/damage to kill different rats in a different sector is the best use of my time at the moment.

#1 Plan Obvious - Tengu. It would beat Ravenkind on some missions. (That's a different thread!) In spite of the Lost in EVE podcast, seems like it has uses in WH. But I probably still need to be able to fly something armor tanked to be very welcome in WHs? And it is a long time before I can afford to fly an expensive one, let alone an expensive one outside of hisec. So something I will train eventually. Does it really add much flexibility?

Silly emotions: Someday I would like to fly a nighthawk because I liked the description back before I subscribed and knew even less. And a Rattlesnake just because it is so uncool - shields, missiles, drones can you get any more unFOTM? But there are more practical choices. Perhaps not as foolish, I was impressed with a tachyon Nightmare.

#2 Plan Ammar - Plug a Nightmare into EveMon. The assumption is along the way I am getting skills (armor & laser) for a WH armor BS. I don't really know the frig/cruiser/hac options but I can't see how armor tanking skills would be wasted. Lasers are not fotm, but things could change.

#3 Plan I Give Up, Mimitar: if every recommendation is going to be minnie, then why not start down that path.

#4 Plan Electro - embrace the Caldari. Train to fly falcon, rook, perhaps kitsune. Blackbird for disposable roams?

#5 Plan HAC - If FCs want you to fly HACs, then training towards one makes sense. But I don't really have a clue as to which one.

I am not saying what should I fly; rather what ship should I train for to give me more choices in say 4 months for trying out small gang PvP, WH and eventually 0.0.

Plan Obvious needs to happen some time but it isn't exciting or different, especially until I can afford to lose a 2b fit.

Plan Ammar seems like a safe way to start crosstraining.

Plan Electro - just feels too specialized. Some corps/gangs would love it but most would not? idk, just feels riskier than saying. Ok, shields/missiles OK, time for armor/lasers?

Thoughts?

Personally if your a pure Caldari pilot like me. I'd just carry on skilling race specific. I've just started skilling Gallente. Purely cos it seemed the best logical choice. After I'd skilled everything Caldari up to carrier, I focused heavily on drones purely to field a Carrier. So, Gallente was the quickest race to skill next for Domi and Ishtar drone bonus.

SO just focus on Caldari for now. And start planning for Nighthawk, Falcon...etc. You'll be glad you didn't stray in the end. Very Happy

Well if you are planning RVB I suggest cross training other racial frigs and small T2 small projectiles (many of the Merlin fits people fly have Autocannons) and maybe small hybrids if you think you are going to go for an Ishkur (not to mention that Caldari actually have some gun boats).

That would give you a nice stable of ships to choose from and actually get some hands on experience which should help you decide what path you want to go down in the long run.

Or you could just do what I did and make up a 3 year plan to fly every subcap non-jump capable combat ship in the game :)(ok so I skipped dictors got an alt for that)

If you plan to "embrace" caldari, you really just need to optomize small drones, passive shield, heavy/ham, and supports. The drake will be your ship 99 times in 100. From there you're looking at very small steps to recons, tengu, and the few other relavent pvp ships. On the off chance you feel like flying a carrier some day, gallente cross training would get you a use for all those drones skills in the mean time.

On the more "safe" (within current patch notes) side, minmatar offers plenty of shield tanked wonders (cane, mse rifter, maelstorm, etc.) and projetiles (as skel mentioned) are pretty much fit to everything these days...

What.
Are we talking overall or just for crazy PvEer's? Because laser has been FOTM for a while now, though I think projectiles are starting to replace it.
Either way, Nightmare is a shield ship with lasers and you should fly it because it's what cool people do.

I would cross train to Amarr. I say this because there are a few Amarr ships that use missiles and armor tank. Then you can train guns later.

Else, I have never heard an FC complain about having a falcon along for the roaming party.

As soon as I fill some gaps in my training Im gonna max out kitsune skills.

IMO kitsune is one of THE most annoying little bastards around. Screws you from over 100km and you cant hit it with small enough gun to shoot it at that distance Laughing

I.
