I am indeed happy to have persuaded him into making mk1 into mk2 with more high tech look. I wish i could be as awesome with whatever design programm as he is....
Pure sexy that ship and mk1 was already gorgeous.

Make sure that you follow the rules when submitting your final entry.

Alot of people have forgotten to strip the textures from their render when making their 6 views (Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Front, Back)

Also, make sure that you have the information about this ship in the actual submission and not the the DA description section.

As much as i agree with you; anyone who fails to read a few simple rules, as awesome as the entry may be, is an idiot who deserves to get his/her submission rejected.

Gotta say, with all of that awesome art out there, I was very hesitant to put mine up. That said, I began noticing a few things that would put a LOT of entries much further up the list.

1) People aren't using measurements, or their measurements are out of the limits (less than 50m or more than 1,000m)
2) Submissions are coloured
3) Not all 6 views requested are shown.

My query is this; will the DA team abide by the rules when deciding the final 15 or not? I don't know about any other people who've entered, but if my work which has all three things listed above is beaten by someone's work which didn't (and also probably doesn't fit with the EVE thing as a whole) just because it was "pretty", I'm gonna be just a tad annoyed.

Admittedly there are ships I've seen that probably deserve to be in the final 15, but they don't have a measurement, or they're in colour, etc. Most of these are great 'concept' artwork that's of a single view (mostly in perspective rather than a facing) where the ship pictured is of astounding quality, and is a design I would love to fly. And I don't doubt that the artist put a great deal of time and effort into it, but if you don't follow the rules, then you shouldn't be able to win. Harsh I know, but fair to the myriad of entrants who aren't particularly good behind a pencil/pen/mouse but do adhere to the rules.

There are quite a few ships where it's quite obvious they were designed for something else (personal animation, etc) and people have just combined 6 views for the competition. Some are good, others pretty shocking, but they're not 'EVE' ships. It'll be a real shame if the majority of the DA team that judge this aren't EVE players and don't know what to look for. Fingers crossed for a damn good design.

As for theories about what class this could be, and whether it will be a race-specific ship, or an all rounder (like ORE ships) I think maybe they'll get a great ship design, that if there's a particular racial bent, they might either pick other designs for other races or create their own to bolster the other sides. However it goes, CCP are obviously behind it, and have contingencies and plans in place depending on the outcome.

Oh, and for those who have signed up to DA for the sole purpose of negatively critiquing a person's work with no constructive feedback whatsoever (and no intention of posting their own designs); there's a nice warm spot in hell saved for you, right between the people who order a supersized Big Mac meal with a 'Diet' Coke and the people who talk on cell phones at the theatre. And I'll be right behind you (in the circle reserved for those who say "both" when asked "paper or plastic?") poking you with a pointed stick for all eternity...

I don't agree with you on this one- with a bit more detailing/minor tweaks, I could see it fitting into either the Amarr or Gallente line-ups once rendered in the appropriate colours.

It's not the best entry by a long shot IMO, but I wouldn't be that hard on it.

Add yours. It's a contest and if you wish to take a potshot at it it's your entire right to do so, no matter what anyone else might say. Even dispite the perhaps way better entries. I'm no great artist but i'm still putting up my design aswell. Dare to be bold pilot Wink

And don't worry, if DA would screw the contest rules for the sake of pretty pictures expect a ****storm.
CCP is the end judge in this case so if none of the final 15 abide by these rules bet on it that CCP will say "pick 15 new ones" as CCP can't afford to go haywire on their own contest.

Well you didn't..
Can't submit here
Lol Deviantart link fail.

Anyways: submit it through your account thingy on the top of the screen.

Contests 2010 -> eve online

Also you need to show 6 views; Top, Bottom, Right, Left, Front, Rear. Then perhaps add a 7th view showing it in 3d view..

This needs to be on the 1st page again..

My entry is coming along nicely, and i can proudly say i managed to be the first to actually make use of animated gif functionality for my presentation Cool.

Unfortunatly i need to find a way to downgrade the file size without sacrifising too much detail since i already went from aprox. 5000 pixels wide to 1574 wide. Think 720p should be sufficient still....

Now i just hope that the combination of my mediocre artstical skills together with my original idea of a mixed race t3 BC and the original (if i do say so myself) presentation of the task are enough to at least get me into the final 15 Embarassed

Freyja T3 Battlecruiser WiP

Fake edit: Is it me or is loading the pages on deviant like they need to kill 50 puppies and kittens before a page loads properly and then sometimes not even load properly, probably because they ran out of puppies and kittens??
Drawings not loading with the rest of the page, preview versions not loading and the actual image does, drawings missing and a red cross in it's place.....etc etc.

Jesus christ, there's a reason nobody has done it in animated gif format, it's annoying as hell, especially when you're trying to actually take it seriously. Stop trying to be flash, and just show your entry.

Confirming I have no idea what that ship looks like because I'm not arsed waiting for a gigantic animated gif to load.

Reasonable concerns..

Hence why i'm trying to downsize the file alot. Point is that the entries will be judged on the technical side of presenting your submission aswell. Since i can't do awesome 3d like so many who are trying to be flashy with massively detailed 3d models and matching textures i do it another way. Therefor i try to be flashy in an original (for this contest anyways) way so i stand out a bit more from the masses that have entered already. If this way of doing it will prevent me from being picked or whatever so be it, but i'll at least have given it my best shot instead of submitting an image and see what will happen...

Downsizing the image p*p alot will alleviate most of the loading problems and still keep it detailed enough. I'll also simply have to add a link in the file itself for a high detail and bigger image of the ship itself or something. I'll see what i can come up with anyways..

From my humble non-artistic point of view there are only a few i would like to see in game:

Number 1: Naru-kami I even like the name
Number 2: Freeborn impressive one.
Number 3: Wip3 Looks mean, more like a guerilla ship
Number 4: Precursor not so much really but good none the less
Number 5: Aquilon very eve-ish but somewhat redundant with Brutix
Number 6: Metatron - wouldn't mind flying that one
Number 7: Definetly would fly this one
Number 8: Impressive mining boat, would take one just to spin it on station :)
Number 9: Cruiser - not bad, not in my top 5 though, but i would like the moa replaced with that anytime.
Number 10: Arcadia - impressive but really unfinished design, wouldn't mind having a pirate ship like that.

This is my own favourites list, and i truly believe that the most awesome of them are Number 1, 2 , 7 and 3 in that order.

A lot of very un-original concepts to wade through. However it was worth it in the end. I think the best four by a clear margin because they manage to be original but also capture the style of Eve factions.

Excellent
Precursor Mk2

Freeborn

Commendable
Talwar
Caldari Cruiser by Keelhauler
Andarta
Orca
Starship WIP3 by kheng
