I'm not a lawyer but that doesn't sound quite right, there's a gray area between using someone else's IP and creating original work.

EG 1 You did a redesign of the moa which looked a ton better than the one on TQ, the moa is clearly CCP's IP so they retain the IP in your drawing.

EG 2 Your albatross is a unique piece of art, there's no mention of eve online or any of CCP's IP such as faction names or logos. If you entered that piece in to the competition I don't see how CCP could claim the IP without your consent.

To take the sonic example, if I draw a picture of sonic then Sega own the IP but if I draw a mouse character who I think would fit well in their game then I own the IP.

As said I'm not a lawyer but that's how I understand copyright to work.

I wonder how many of those submissions are going to get disqualified from the get go because A they dont have the 6 viewport or B are not eve online ships in any shape form or definition.

How do people interpret this rule? The 'uncoloured line drawings' part makes me imagine a wire mesh image of the ship but I'm not sure I've understood it right.

It's "uncoloured line drawings/renderings."

means you can submit a drawing or a render of a 3d model, but has to be uncoloured/all in the same color.

Like this (which btw is my entry): http://helge129.deviantart.com/#/d2y9yfg

Thanks for helping me get that straight.

What program did you use to do your picture and do you know of any free/cheap art programs available on the web?

I'm used to doing photo realistic editing and graphics/titles for TV with photoshop/premiere but it's not the polygon based stuff graphics designers use. I've downloaded blender but am still trying to get my head round it.

Given that I'm not likely to win the competition I'd like to learn some new software so any tips on good programs or tutorial sites would be appreciated. Wink

Well if you want a real life example look up macross vs battletech lawsuit back in the day, which should be having recent links now that smith in tinker company for mech warrior 5 is now in the same plot hole again.

Is it me or am I looking at a heavily modified Primae base hull? The nose, mid section and both sidepod structures strike me as very recognisable. Either way i like it and could see it as an ORE vessel for deep space mining security. Not as a forcefield ship persť but would be a fun idea.

Actually no, It's not based on the primae, they merely share the centrifuge, and even those look completely different.

I used 3ds max 9 for that.

In light of how EVE is shaping up, I'm a bit confused on why they'd want spaceships as models. Is this for a freebie thing for christmas like the zephyr. Cause if we had to go by events and winter expansion and blogs and such, it would make more sense to submit things like this.

Weren't there posts about how talented the EVE graphics devs are (posted by CCP staff) etc etc when the Primae came out?

Run out of inspiration?

Cool

and yet the actual trailer for incarna is a guy falling half naked out of a pod covered with goo.
they could have at least used a good looking guy...

srsly, who at CCP thought it would be better to have a half naked guy fall out of a pod covered in goo, instead of a woman?
lets be fair though, there are some women playing this game, and a lot of guys who like other guys.

to be completely fair however, I hereby demand that trailer be done again, except with a female model. you can probably even use the same skeleton...or did you animate the boobies and have different skeletons Laughing

now that I think about it, that Nvidia physics simulation, would do wonders for natural looking boobies, wouldn't it?

anyhow, I seem to have gone of topic.
Same trailer, with a female model...please?

If they do that, wouldn't they lose qualifications for online & game ratings? I'll be amazed if we have nipples at all tbh.

wait, you can have a half naked guy, but you cant have a half naked woman? Shocked

and to be honest, I doubt they made much more sales by being rated for teens or whatever. I really think they should have the game rated for adults and go for full blown nudity, gore, and be completely free in their artistic creations and do whatever they think feels right for the game. if anyone under age wants to play a game that you download over the net, I think they wont encounter any problems.

except maybe if they live in Australia Sad

but srsly, go for no rating, or adult rating, or whatever the expression is, and be free in creating your game.

Well as we all know that seeing and talking about **** rot your brain but screen full of gore and dismembered people is perfectly normal for American standards (which ESBR is based on)... Rolling Eyes

edit:
The part in women that babies suckle to get milk to feed on you know, got to love censorship these days. Rolling Eyes

I like how there are already ships based on radial instead of bilateral symmetry up on the site. I would love to see ships that actually look like spaceships and aren't convinced for some reason that one way is "down".
