It's sad that this requires a blog, I'd have thought ppl got the rage out of their system after the ghost training was disabled.

A good change. Hopefully datacores might become worth something again at some point.

You still collect them if your account is active but you arent logged in, right?

And how will this affect accounts that are already inactive and accumulating RP? will they be instantly cut off, or will they be cut off when they next login?

When the ghost training was stopped all SP stopped clocking up after the set grace period (3 days) after the change was implemented if the account wasn't acctive.

I understand that, but he mentions:

Quote:
When this change is deployed, characters will stop collecting research points when your account lapses into inactivity.

Its probably commonsense, but i assumed he meant the next time you unsub, i.e you need to be already active but then unsub.

fakeedit: actually i just realised how stupid my post was Laughing

When this change goes into effect will it be back dated so that accounts that are currently inactive will not gain any datacores since the date that they were last active, or will currently inactive accounts be credited with datacores up to the date of the patch?

Will it have the same 3 day grace as skill training or end the second that the subscription does?

I figured this day would eventually come...there goes 2 accounts being paid off :/

Question: Was "ghost datacores" a bug or a feature?

See what i did thar?

So wait a minute...

Of all the things brought up by/to the CSM...

They chose to tackle ghost RP?

WTF

There is SO much more that needs fixing, before I give two ****s about ghost RP.

On a slightly related note...

Disabling ghost training coupled with the introduction of the skill queue seems to have introduced a bug a while back. This bug prevents skills being marked as completed when they finish, thus stalling the queue and preventing the accumulation of more skill points. See PetitionRef: 1979113 and Bugref: 97287 (note to BHers: why did you delete my bug description? It had some useful info.)

This bug has happened with me twice, on two separate accounts. The key thing in both cases was that the account expired, but skill points weren't attributed during the time since last logged in until the day the account lapsed, which in one case was around 20 days worth.

Just wanted to make sure you guys took conditions like that into consideration before rolling out this change.

Please test it very carefully as players can't test it on Sisi (R&D points and researches are delete during the mirror and it is not possible to lapse the account at will).

If this change accidentally delete already accrued R&D points if your account go dormant 1 day it will be a problem.

I'll also say Good Job

Improving on what is already in the game really catches my attention

While I haven't got smitten with much pve in the game there is potentia for the factions and corporations already in the game. For people to care it's best for a relationship to ad value. Gluts of data ores incrementally take aw emergent possibilities.an now if some how bottlenecks could be put in and supply tided to factio warfare events. Vicious swings in prices based ontrade lvl.fluctuation.....

At first I thought you were doing this because it would make datacore harvesters pay for more account time = more money for CCP. But I don't think datacores can pay for a PLEX/month so I think people will reactivate one last time and then close their datacore farming accounts which = less money for CCP. Good change imo!

I doubt CCP were making much money from those accounts anyway. People were using the 5-day activation offers to harvest cores.

Overall this change is a good thing. Pity it took so long, but better late than never.

It makes sense if you look at it as a refocusing on changes that are easy to implement. I doubt ending ghost RP training took more than a tiny fraction of the dev resources many of the other CSM requests entail.

Dev resources are limited, so it makes sense to implement changes that give the maximum effect for the minimum resource use. No doubt we'll see more minor fixes along these lines, and that's a good thing.

To be honest, I think this is a bad change. Like a lot of people I left eve only to return later, when I quit a long time ago I was pretty well off, I owned two battleships, a Covetor and had over 100 million isk in my bank!

When I returned a couple of years later, I quickly realised that having 100m was effectively chump-change now and meant nothing, which sucks since eve doesn't have interest rates on your wallets.

I had a level 2 research agent, learnt about datacores and cashed in, I didn't make that much isk, but it helped towards me getting back on my feet.

I assume that this particular item got a dev blog is to serve as "official notice" to inactive account holders that CCP is (thankfully) taking away something that used to be permitted.

In response to previous posts in this thread, this is not the ONLY CSM item getting dev love for the Winter Expansion. CSM hopes to communicate a more complete list to the community soon. Why not now? Because dev planning is still underway; decisions are still being made about all stakeholders' items. Until that is done, CSM may not publicly discuss the status of its items...the details are classified "NDA" for the moment by CCP until all the details are ironed out, which is perfectly understandable.

But I can say that CCP has been communicating with CSM in a timely and detailed fashion this past week about the processing and status of our items related to dev planning activities. It does begin to feel like CSM is being treated as a stakeholder. It's a good start that has me feeling cautiously optimistic.

Good. It didn't make sense for people to continue making isk while being unsubscribed.
