Ubuntu 10.04 (32-bit) (KDE)
Latest Wine from ppa repo (1.3)
Nvidia gfx

Everything works, can play reliably etc... however, when I click the checkbox in settings to disable audio the client hangs and need to CTRL+C in the console to close it...

I launch from a console (wine explorer /desktop=EVE,1600x900 "L:\Games\CCP\EvE\eve.exe"
) but there is no output from wine when it hangs...

I tend to play eve in silence and have music on, so just muting the speakers isn't really an option! ;)

This is a minor problem really, but wondering if any else is having a similar problem, and is there a workaround?

I am having a similar issue, but my Lenovo R61 is hanging after I select my character to log in with. It only crashes if my sound is on. Fortunately, I can turn the sound off at the splash page. I've tried turning the sound back on after I log back in, but that freezes the game too.

Sorry that was with Ubuntu 10.04 and Wine 1.2

I've now upgraded to Wine 1.3, I can log in with sound, but the sound is stuck in a loop. I can still chat and do stuff, but if I Alt-Tab to another program EVE freezes. It is still working fine if I disable Audio.

I disabled audio in winecfg in the end... still hangs, so maybe a driver issue? Using ALSA, might be worth trying something else. All other options in settings work fine, even disabling eve voice...

I'm not sure where to start. I haven't tinkered with Linux in ages. Besides, I only use EVE on the laptop to change my skills while I'm traveling, so its not too big of a deal to me if the sound doesn't work. Used to be with ALSA you could turn of specific portions of it. I can't remember the details it was many years ago. If I had to guess I'd say its something with WINE and the new EVE client, not ALSA. If you do try some different options, I'd be curious to know the results.

To disable sound in wine,

1. start console
2. winecfg
3. Go to Audio -> uncheck all drivers

Enjoy space as intended - silent.
