Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce this issue while I'm actually logging Wine's console output, so I can't produce error output. I'm using Wine 1.2 on Ubuntu 10.04; ATI video card (ugh!), just whatever happened to be embedded in my motherboard (double ugh!). This system wasn't built for gaming, yet runs EVE quite nicely, save for the white box cursor issue and some textures that won't load (mostly planets), although I haven't given her a full shakedown yet. I may go out and buy a mid-range nVidia card for this system just so I can play EVE better (it's primarily a work computer, but has quite beefy specs because it was built to run multiple VMs for development and testing purposes).

Anyway, here's the issue I'm encountering, but only intermittently: After configuring a PI structure, or rotating the planet in planet view mode, or really doing anything in planet view for a little bit, I suddenly become completely unable to select any structures, links, or even build any new ones (structures or links) -- the entire planet mode UI just completely dies, save for the buttons on the left ("Build", "Scan", and their sub-buttons, although despite being able to select a structure to build I can't actually build one). Leaving and re-loading planet mode doesn't fix anything; only thing that gets it functional again is to quit and then reload EVE, which is quite annoying when it happens in the middle of restarting all my extractors!

I've found this post describing what seems like a very similar issue, however GL SL is disabled (I've done it twice, maybe thrice, via winetricks just to be certain). The only other post I can find that's similar is this one, which actually might be the same issue, but it's a month old with no responses.

I'll try to capture and post console output when it next happens again, but in the meantime I'm just asking if anyone else has seen this behavior, and if so know how to approach fixing it?

I have these symptoms too, but they occur very rarely (about once a month) and affect the whole client, not only PI. I can move the mouse, the UI buttons show their hover effect, I can click them and the buttons go down and up but then - nothing happens. Just like when the connection is lost and the client hasn't noticed, yet. Hmmmm... could that be the cause?

Using Nvidia 195.36.24, Ubuntu 10.04, wine 1.2 (not rc).

Well, it just happened again. Unfortunately, the console output was nothing but the usual spew of fixme's and complaints about stubs; comparing it to a normal session where PI remained fully functional and usable throughout revealed no substantial differences.

Does anyone at least have suggestions for how I could get more information about this issue? At this point I'm at a dead-end with my knowledge of Linux and Wine, and other than simply dealing with the issue or else returning to Windows (or abandoning PI) I have no idea how to proceed from here. I realize I've provided roughly no information whatsoever for anyone wanting to help me, but I have no idea now on how to get any further information.

Edit: I should also clarify that when this issue occurs, it is only affecting PI structures and links, but affects both hover and clicking (left and right) behaviors. I'm still able to move around on the planet, as well as zoom in and out, and the planet view "menu" on the left remains fully functional (except that clicking anywhere on the planet when trying to build a structure or link does nothing). The entirety of the rest of the UI remains fully functional for me.

I got very board of PI before I'd even done the training - haven't touched it since then. Between the size restrictions and the tediousness I was going insane trying to get something to work smoothly.

I'll give it test again tonight ...

I play PI extensively on 10 chars, 4 accounts and have no issues at all. I have ubuntu 10.04 x64, wine 1.2 and nvidia 9600.

I suggest you try putting a cheap nvidia card in there, anything from 8xxx up should do.

I'm not having any glitches. I'd say it's most likely another ATI driver issue.
