Ok, been scouring the forums for a week now and finally said "Screw it"

I just installed Ubuntu 10.4 on my laptop that previously had Vista on it. Eve ran perfect on it(Well as perfect as vista can make it). However, now, there are graphic glitches(Ships turning up black, planets, some of the UI buttons and portraits.) And for the life of me I cant figure out what is wrong.

Im using a F80L asus laptop

The settings under Eve show up as Direct3D HAL 1.
Everything else works(Minus the jukebox) I can log in and train but thats about it. Any help would be great.

It sounds like your drivers are playing silly buggers.

Have you installed any drivers yourself or just using the ones that come with ubuntu?

Sadly I do not have any experience with Intel Chipsets so I will not give advice (as I have none to give).

I would suggest heading to #ubuntu on the freenode irc server and asking there!

Ya know what.....I never thought about going to the intel website and checking.

Yes im using the ones that came with ubuntu. Saddly im running a psx emu and it runs so much better then it did. No graphic problems there. But ill look on intels website and get back to ya.

I don't have Ubuntu or an Intel graphics chip but i know that it is usually a bad idea to install stuff manually. Ubuntu may have newer drivers already packed in an experimental repository. The steps how to add this repository to your synaptic sources is on the bottom of this page under "Use preview of 2.8 driver" :

I hope this helps
