Did a fresh install with Ubuntu 10.04, installed wine, copied eve from old HD, deleted cache directory. Everything looks good but some planets have missing "slices":

Is this a known issue?, I tried latest wine (1.2rc6) and 1.1.42.

I'm running nvidia drivers 256.35

I have a similar issue where gas giant planets are completely invisible, all I see are their ring systems.

Using Wine 1.1.42 on Kubuntu 9.04 with nvidia drivers 180.44.

I "fixed" this by changing all graphic settings to low.

I had problem rendering planets with wine 1.1.42 and earlier catalys drivers so this seems to be on the driver side.

Do you have OffscreenRenderingMode set to fbo or Backbuffer?

I'm suspicious your problem is you've set some registry entries. Eve doesn't need any registry tweaks under Wine.
