Other than say buying isk and getting caught, is there any other way to go negative?

Delete your characters and start over without visiting Chinese websites selling isk.

If you can't play to earn isk, at least visit the Timecode Bazzar forum on this website and read the sticky information at the top.

well I would tell you to just make the isk and transfer it to the character since a 40+m SP character is worth quite a lot itself. But since I think you might have just admitted to account sharing I'm not sure it would be worth it. (assuming ccp actually cares about that)

Maybe they used the official way of transferring a character?

(edit: I'm wrong, see post below)
Most likely not, since one rule of character trade stipulates that the sold character must have a positive wallet.

the actual rule is:
You must disclose whether or not the character being sold has a negative balance in its wallet and the amount.

So he could have been transferred legally I suppose. I would imagine the OP would have figured out what to do with the negative balance before going through with the transfer in that case though. They aren't free.

Make your own throw away corp.
Set corp tax to 100%.
Invite character with negative account balance to corp.
Rat rat rat.
Corp gets all the isk from bounties.
Dont have to worry about negative account balance.

There is one, actually. It still involves GM actions, though.

If you lose a ship, petition to get it reimbursed, then go spend the insurance money. If the GM reimburses your ship, the GM ALSO deducts the insurance money from your wallet. If you reduced your wallet down to zero when the reimbursement happened, it will be negative.

You could try not breaking the rules regarding ownership of accounts. If you succeed, you will find that you are not logging in to your friend's account and you are not noticing the fact that his characters have negative wallet balances?

You can still get caught after buying isk in the past. It could be months or years later, but it happens. When ccp confirms an ISK seller they go back back through the accounts wallet history to see who they had given large amounts of isk. If you happen to be one of those people then you can expect them to come down on you whether you've already traded the isk to a third party or otherwise.

As somebody mentioned you can also go negative due to receiving an insurance payoff and spending it before petitioning for ship reimbursement. That is of course if they approve said reinbursement.

Negative wallet is very hard to recover from and your almost better poff starting all over. I'm not sure if it still like this but I do know that years back people couldn't even give you isk when your wallet is negative. They would get an error.

In addition you couldn't even buy ammo directly from people as when they set the price to 0 it woud still say you lacked the funds for the trade. This being because you had less than 0 isk.

Pretty sure there's some things you can't use corp ISK for - upgrading clones for example.

Yes. I don't remember how, but I did it once a long time ago. Luckily I had another character so I just sent myself the money.

Ship reimbursement can give negative, as they often take away your insurance money.Crying or Very sad

I've been curious about negative ISK balances myself for a couple weeks - since I started a market trading alt and trained up the margin trading skill, which allows you to place buy orders but not all the ISK comes out of your wallet until the order is filled. I have it at lvl IV, so I only have to put 30% or so into the escrow account upfront. What it means is I can make buy orders that total more than the ISK I have in my wallet.

Not sure, but it sounds like it's possible to go negative once you have this skill. My alt currently has approx 250mil in the wallet, and around 400mil in buy orders, with approx 50mil in escrow (numbers may be a little off, but close enough). So I have 300mil in total ISK, and 400mil in buy orders. If my buy orders were to all be filled in a short period of time, then wouldn't I be at -100mil in my wallet?

You might find a legitimate, interested person that would be willing to buy such a character. This would be at a considerable discount as your character carries considerable risks. However, you would probably gain a positive balance to work with that you can use to start over or to purchase another character with.

Not sure on the exact mechanics, my understanding is you will not got negative. Your market order becomes cancelled when you do not have sufficient funds to cover the order.

I think transporting large amounts of drugs/other contraband in hisec can result in a negative balance, courtesy of concord fines.
