I know it was rather unreasonable to begin with, but I was rather hoping to see the ability to manufacture or do reasearch and invention on planets. Even if it prevented me from doing anything else on the planet for just one line, it would make my life so much easier. I wouldn't have to fight for position in NPC stations nearly as much. And while I know you could do with with a POS, you kind of need a reasonably well-funded corporation for that to even be a possibility.

Was it just me, or did someone else hope for something similar?

You hoped for too much. Did you read anything about PI leading up to patch day?

Yeah, but I was hoping that this would be an eventual outcome of this whole thing. It seems like a good idea to me, but I must admit that I have no idea what it would do to the markets of Eve as a whole.

There are a lot of us that run our own POS in high-sec for research purposes, so it's not like it takes the efforts of a group of people necessarily. It does take a significant initial investment and a lot of upkeep costs, so I'd say it's a venture only fit for very active players.

I'd agree with you except there's no way to run a personal POS (as opposed to corp) and lots of people are happy in their current corp but can't be trusted with POS management roles.

CCP, if you're reading this, allowing personal POS (and personal usage of labs/arrays of a personal pos) would be a huge industry buff that would make a lot of people very happy.

It doesn't take much to run a POS. I made an alt, and within a few months he was running his own POS.

A billion ISK from my main. COSMOS missions for a week or two. Poof, POS.

Persoanlly, I was hoping we'd be able to produce the input to T2 rigs.

So then how long does it take, researching BPOs in this POS to recover the initial investment and start to make a profit? It will run about 80-90 million ISK every 30 days to operate, depending on size and anchored mods. Personal POSs are not at all hard to get going or to maintain, but there is little if any chance of ever making a profit.

I have a med research pos, and three large reactor posses, doing 4 simple reactions and 2 large (I swap that based on need).
I payed for them all (trade ftw), which helped in getting the pos operator role in the corps I guess :)
The materials go into t2 production, which per reactor pos, saves me about 5 mil a day, after fuel costs which for the large are about 7 mil a day.
The t2 production is also the reason for the research pos, it eliminates the queing.
The supply of fuel can be hard, I use a freighter to get to the nearest hisec, and block runner it all in. You could also get miner mates to supply.
Pure trade is as always the best money maker, but t2 production, if you get some extra profit by using pos'ses in, can make a nice income.
