Since CCP sated that they are going to continue developing PI, I would like to make a thread about considerations about how PI is working, and the future of this feature.

I hope that this feature will become far more complex, CCP owes us population control for example (if not what tyrannis stand for?), and trade hubs..

But now, how is it going? Are players really playing with it, so that NPC orders can be unseeded?

what would population control do?

don't trade hubs already exist?

as for how it's going, i see tons of people occupying planets. i've already sold a ton of starbase fuel.

EDIT: i'm hoping they add an option to set up a CC "for corp" use

For Trade hubs I mean trade PINs, that would make PI an actual multiplayer feature where players can interact exchanging goods directly on planets.

Future:

Feature
--Corp members could link their production chains on the planet surface.

--Major storage facility 15K space for twice the grid and cpu needs (of current storage)
--Massive storage facility 25K space for triple the grid and cpu needs

Skill
--Advanced facility management each lvl gives extra cycle to the lenght of extractor base cycles (level 1 makes 30 min cycle into a 35 min cycle and so fort)
--Planetary facility upgrades (prequisite is the command center operation skill at lvl 5) - upgrades to extractors and other buildings

PI is dead in the water unless CCP yanks the NPC buy/sell orders off the market by next week. (And it's already going to take 1-3 months for all those stockpiles to get used up.)

I'm sure some like PI, and that's great. For them. I have no interest in it. The only thing I like about Tyrannasarus is the calender, Eve gate, and Scorpions new skin.

I agree that PI will suffer as long as the NPC orders exist. For the time being, however, the NPC supply gives POS owners a chance to maintain continuity whilst the rest of us (esp those who did not toy with PI on SISI) a chance to come up to speed. If NPC orders were turned off tomorrow, I am sure that within a month, many POSes would shut down for want of fuel - the Player PI supply would not cope. Sure there will be inflation, and you can raise prices all you want, but that wont make POS fuel magically appear.

It will be very interesting to see how the supply/demand changes once NPC orders leave the market.

I am not sure, but would it not be easy to just increase the npc order prices at first and then later on remove the npc orders from the market?
That would give time for the PI production to ramp up and people would be more encouraged to start and/or increase production on PI.

What I am missing atm from PI is other players on my planet ...

So far I have set up a nice production on 1 planet, but I have not seen anyone else there. Are we supposed not to see other players on the same "map" ? Or am I just "lucky" that no one else is on my planet? ( My home is in a low activity lowsec area :p )

So for now it is a bit of an isolated undertaking for me, still entertaining, and I see the potential. Also going to setup on other planets this evening.

CCP listen to this guy!

I think it's a good idea, this would encourage people to do PI more and more over time.
The fact that not many people are in now can be accounted as an effect of the long skill training, for example I am going to train all skills to lvl4 before even placing a single command center, and it requires around 18 days or so.

The next additions to PI should be trade pins and a way to attack (from space)and defend planetary structures, so that PI becomes an actual multiplayer feature. If it's properly balanced, this would make PI very exciting.

And what about population control? In my opinion it would be like incarna, not very useful to the gameplay at present but it would definitely add more strategic depth to PI, and increase trade between planets, and make the EVE universe as it should look, with planet full of life, and te capsuleers living on the top of a NPCish planet based society.
Is it really needed? No, but it would be cool (and it has been promised).
