expansion? what expansion? this is a collection of failed features, that your customers didnt want. the biggest of which, u couldnt even get out of the door on time. so disappointing. u should thank your lucky stars, u dont have a real competitor...

but anyway, on to the list:

1. Eve-gate = useless. who wants this facebook type thing? have u conducted any customer requirements capture exercise? did we say we wanted this crap instead of fixing lag / bugs?

2. Calendar - well developed feature, but why? because this function has come so late, many of us already have solutions for organising. fleet finder was an awesome feature as we had nothing like it before, but this feature is useless, other than to advertise your own 'events' so they dont fail so hard.

3. Contacts - no way of creating folders, which is fail. each contact (of which i have hundreds), now need to be individually managed... great. hours of 'gameplay'

4. Right aligned distance - why? i mean seriously... what the hell was the need to change this? who wanted this? CCP or your customers?

5. 2600 corp contact limit - only good 'feature' so far, and we got this only after massive protest...

6. the new 'sun' - i wonder what kind of feedback you'd have got from sisi if u let this one out early? do you consider this a graphical improvement? i dont - its a irregular semi-transparent sphere (u can see the texture pinch at the top & bottom), with some kind of streaky rings of light surrounding it. what happened to the old one? did u need to change this to reduce lag or something else critical to gameplay?

7. deep safes - a complex issue, which i think people would have been happy with, had you fixed fleet lag

8. insurance changes - ill be looking closely at the financial report, to see how its affected the markets/players behaviour

9. scorp model = win. love it. you have now set the bar pretty damn high, for any other model changes u plan to make... good luck.

i look forward to see how you take the feedback from everyone & the csm, on this expansion, and what you deliver on the next.

ody

1) A lot of people want it; the feedback I have heard so far is that more people like it that dis-like it. I agree, they should concentrate on fixing stuff rather than bringing in new stuff though

2) Calendar, awesome. I have been wanting a calendar for years - finally it has come

3) Contact system is better; however it does need groups and also folders

4) Right aligned distance makes more sense; its easier to distinguish between meters and km this way. They could have added an option to toggle it though - but if they added toggles for everything, we would just have too many toggles

5) yep yep

6) Dont care tbh

7) You are 100% correct

8) I like the fact that t1 ships now come with some risk. However, to better protect newer players I would prefer that the security status of the system you lose the ship in, or if you are in a war-dec affected insurance. If EVE was real, and we had real insurance companies, they would take these things into account. Insurance deals would come with clauses whereby if you lost the ship in 0.0 space, or you insured it while you were at war you would receive less return

9) yep yep

CCP.. PLEASE take some time and make it very clear what address should be used for Eve Gate!

I cant find a working link from the eve main page.. and if i google it.. nothing.
so from the test.evegate i removed the test. bit and can see a site like eve gate... this looks legit, exept the facts that its not a confirmed site.

I fully agree with this request. It's very odd looking at the calendar and having everything be one day offset (because here, Sunday is always on the left side).

On a plus, love the new cursors.

Why is Sunday on the left? It's the last day of the week!

Lol, you're obviously not from the United States are you?

Although lots of businesses use calendars with Sunday as the last day. Should definitely have a choice though. As a matter of fact, why not just choose the starting day?? I would love a calendar where Friday was the start of the week Very Happy!! Just to be weird Razz

The new standings system is junk

5 standings settings is not enough and having to add the contact to set standings is silly.

/me is waiting on the reports that evegate is a huge success.

*over 250.000 accounts logged into evegate in 48 hours showing why we left it on opt in so everyone has to change it so we can say everyone wants it because they all logged in en masse*

Anyways, who at CCP makes all the decisions about everything that gets made and put into the client for release? Is it a blind man perhaps? Or a single person with an IQ of about 25? Or is it perhaps not the company directors and such who i suspect have a collective IQ higher than 1000, but the stakeholders who just have big wallets and small brains? Is it really that hard to say no to the *we want to do an expansion per 6 months even if it is full of fail, bugs, half done things, useless crap and everything else* ? Are you really that daft to notice that every expansion is getting less and less support from your customers but you still decide to waste developer time on things that are not important enough for immediate release and put things that are important into the fridge?

Stop for a minute, think for a second, dig back into that feeling that you had when you first started out developping eve and what you wanted to achieve with it... Does the heap of broken and unbalanced things resemble anything you dreamt of? Does the heap of backlog things to do and things we actually wanted to do earlier but can't because our stakeholders want to keep pushing out new stuff instead of fixing the old stuff resemble anything you dreamt of?
Sure the game is pretty and has no competitors and keeps growing and growing and such, but hasn't that made you all lazy in regards to things introduced but never finished?
Do you want to keep building upon heaps of code that will be unbalanced with every new line of code that gets added to it so it turns into a whole big bunch of trees instead of a nice and calming forrest with bells and whistles on top? Do you not see that adding half done things will need to be fixed, while other things previously added need fixing still, but both are not fixed because new stuff needs to be made and invented that will be put out not completed, so that needs fixing after deployment too?

That said, i don't really have a prob with the latest expansion, just a casual player. I'm just trying to voice some reasonable output of all the (rightly so!) whines.
However, if it is really stakeholders calling all the shots tell us, i'm sure we all would buy them out of their ignorant and not-even-interested-in-eve-only-return-on-investment existance and put you back on the right track...
Just tell us...

No folders or groups for Contacts? Seriously?

Not sure how you can even think of having a contacts list without this. Basic contact management stuff. Poor.

Hope this is fixed as soon as possible.

CONTACTS in its current "NEW" format somehow lost "CREATE FOLDER" functionality, which is I believe quite essential in organizing them.

This feature was invaluable for PVPers, but probably also for the rest of EVE community.

I hope the functionality was removed by mistake and will be restored without any necessary delay.

At the moment, CONTACTS are pretty useless.

Thanks CCP in advance for putting this back into old good shape.

P.S.: I would like to have my folder structure, that I have created over the past back once the functionality is restored, hopefully there are some backups :).

I have to say, despite my low expectations for Tyrannis, I seem to be noticing and increase in multi-client performance. Is anyone else getting better performance from 2 or more clients since the patch?

That is all... for now.

Logged on and bought the skill books for planetary interaction. One of the skill books (when injected) went into my queue but remained as "unpackaged" in my hangar. I tried moving this to my ship but I got the an error stating "fatal - need a physician..." as it seems to be treating the book as an implant...

Laughing EvE took its one hour break, so i figured i would check out the brand new evegate that CCP is so proud of.

Much to my surprice (read: shock) i just found out that when EvE is down, so is the gate Laughing Laughing
I mean...COME ON!!!!Shocked The one time i can see any use at all (for my own sake) for the gate, is when EvE is taking the hourly break.. and it is down..?

Please tell me this is a minor glitch and that you will keep the "gate" up during downtime? please..? ccp? Shocked

Something tells me this "pacth" should have been delayed even further, because so far.. it is looking pretty baaad.. Sad

My advice: Dont do a new patch/expansion every 6 months, do it when you actually have some content to deploy..

Have to say, really not impressed with the new suns. The one in Poinen looks like a white octagon, you can actually see the corners of the shape. I honestly preferred the old ones, they made me say wow, the new ones make me say wow for new reasons.

If you ever played Sins of a Solar Empire, the suns on that don't look too great, and it always made me think of how much better they looked in eve, but now it's the other way round.

I don't like complaining about EVE as I love the game so much, but I honestly think that the suns have been ruined.

Yes, my machine is somewhat older as well. 6 years ago it was new technology. I run all settings low, LOD low, all effects off except guns, missiles, and ship explosions. Before the patch I was getting terrible lockups, and client freezes. Clients would crash randomly mainly if I had the characters in 2 different stations or just in different systems. Now I seem to not have that issue anymore. I dont know if I'm just being falsely optimisic or what, but yeah I havent had a problem since the patch so far.

Probably happening because EVE-gate uses the same logon server as real game instead of the logon server used by the Forums and billing. Should be easy fix when they get around to it. However...expect some downtime until CCP debugs EVEgate and maybe even after. EVEgate itself might need only 5-10 minutes daily downtime in the future but...

Keep in mind EVEgate is still linking to/through parts of the real game databases and thus has the same limits as say the API. The majority of EVE DT is database related not coding or anything else. Meaning downtime for EVEgate issues (if any) will naturally overlap with regular DT. Further unless CCP makes major changes to the game Databases to separate out the info EVEgates uses from everything else, EVEgate probably cannot come up unless ALL work on EVE game databases are complete.

I guess CCP could do something like API utilities do and COPY stuff from the master game databases and then add EVEgate specific stuff. However there is some lag in copying (missing or old data) as well as pointless overhead to game servers for copying stuff not actually used because not every user logs onto EVEgate.

*sigh*

Not only are web based resources still accessed using our game client access credentials, but the web resources are still tied to the game's up-time.

CCP, have you not learned anything over the past five months of user input and feedback on de-coupling web browser credentials from the game client?

I was starting to see the benefits of Eve Gate, weighing up the pros and cons, and I decided I was in favour... Until I realised that it also goes offline at downtime... Seriously we have EVEMon, we have Facebook, these do not go offline at lunch time for me!

Its already annoying enough that it goes down on my lunch time, but I had sincerely hoped that EveGate would be my solution to this, but it isn't.

I understand it is early days, and it still has the beta stamp. I can only hope that this will change in the coming days or weeks.

PS: I love the new Scorpion model. Anybody who prefers the old one should be arrested ;)

I have noticed a texture problem on the widow. At the front end of the midsection, near where the 'claws' protrude from, there is a metal armour sheet. On the scorpion and the navy issue this is fine, but on the widow it is blurred as if the texture never loaded. This may just be a fault with my computer but it is odd that the other versions load fine.

- what i expected from evegate were things like skill training interfaces, pos silo level check functionality or maybe market lookups, which would be more than helpful for our corp internal management tool.
what we got is facebook-style "write what you think here" and i'm not sure i'll log in to this whole thing a second time - very disappointed.

- about the game itself, planetary interaction is nice and good to have included, altough i won't go this direction myself.

- the loot and ore changes are too early too comment - i expect a lot of positive change in the next weeks.

i do not feel like this is an expansion, rather a large patch....

hope something like this comes up for the next one: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1324691

Look - I can understand the deployment and the effort it takes to accomplish this - however this is your business, a business of which I pay a lot of money to play. One day was fine - two days is unacceptable and if it continues a thrid day, I would expect some kind of compensation for the hassle.

As a customer I have expectations just as I do with my cable provider. I understand for me and others this is a game - however this is EVE's business - please gather yourselves and get this going. My time during the day is limited.

In the future my suggestion is to not launch something before its ready. As a web designer myself I build and test all my work prior to launch and if I didn't my customers would have my head.

I love the game but annoyed with the decisions.

Why every single PI schematic in game can be used on any planet type (except the tier 4 that all of them can be used on barren and temperate). Why dont you split the schematics of all levels across different planets to make PI more deep and more complex? Will make the skill to control more planets mean more and the choice of selecting a specific planet type mean something... Right now at least, it seems so simple...

You made different structure for every planet, which is nice, but whats the point if every structure can build the same things? and only the extractors are different.... Well i guess its too late to change it now....

Yeah,... well what to say,... its nice, the patch i mean... and thats all it is,... nice.

a bit of Bug Fixing, a few new shiny graphics, 1 or 2 new toys to play with,.... all in all cosemtical fluff.

But this aint CCP's Fault,... in Fact its nobodys fault.

I guess it happened back in the early 90's when "enthusiasts" (e.g. Game Developers) where turned into "employees". It was back then when all the creativity vanished from the industry.

Nowadays its more about maintaining a buisenes Model and satisfying the suits and the Moneygrabbers. It aint that much about doing interesting things anymore (which of course involve risk).

With that beeing said i wouldnt discard this expansion as crap,... but it is very close to the current industry standard of "half arsedness".

I would have expected new ships and maybe one or two game mechanic changes (maybe an overhaul of the travel System that gives a bit more of a free roaming feel to Eve, stuff like that maybe)

Truth is companys today dont even try anymore,... they just dont try !! Why should they the money is coming in and everyone got used to mediocracy cause the public opinion set it as the new standard.

Enjoy

1. There is nothing in this patch for you gatecamping wannabe pirates who never do anything else other than gate camp or station camp.

2. CCP did not take anything away from the subscription you are paying for. They added and streamlined new features and dimensions in the game.

3. Changes always require adjustment but usually are for the better. Get used to it as in EVE it is an ever changing environment. EVE doesnt revolve around one pilot and his subscription.

CCP is doing an outstanding job at making EVE a place for everyone to enjoy and not every patch is going to do everything needed. There are always adjustments to be made and bugs to fix. As in everything in EVE, you have to be patient.

So stop the whining.

I swear you lot in this thread are the only ones I hear complaining like girls.

1 - Calendar: nice addition, very useful
2 - EveGate: I am not sure what this is for. We already have Forums/EVEMoon/EFT etc. And these tools are, by far, more known and functional. I was hoping for the ability to "out of game" -> "in game" communication. There are some MMOs there with this possibility and it seems to wok. Yeah I know that this is not as easy as it looks (it never is) but You could at lest take it under consideration (if You haven't already) because I am sure that this is not impossible.
3 - Planet Interaction - still very simple but with many great possibilities. Good luck with this project!
4 - New Scorpion Model - EPIC :D

Overall a very nice expansion, not the best but sill! Keep up the good work!

Whine offtop: why oh god why the Fanfest is being held in one of the most expensive cities in the world! I wanted to go but after calculating its cost my enthusiasm vanished. (500-800ISK for one beer?! OH COMEONE! I am sure this this is against some convention/international law or sumthin, it has to be!!)
