* The Buddy List is now called “Contacts.” There is a limit of 300 contacts.
Hello everyone,
I was reading over the patch notes as i'm sure all of you have been doing and saw alot of awesome improvements, however this one about having 300 contacts i'm not sure i understand why but i have 500+ contacts how is CCP going to decide which ones they are going to remove of mine? Frankly most of those contacts i keep in touch with and i wont be able to remember all the names that are going to be lost, will there be some support for this? also if a dev could explain to me the reason of 300 contact limit i would apreciate it. Some corps alone like to have their corpies on buddy list but as we all know, some corps are bigger than 300 strong not including out of corp friends. We are are MMO after all, i don't understand why were being limited to how many buddys we can have now i feel i am limited to 300 people only? surely 500 or so is a better number if not more.

What get's me is that also you can only set standing for someone that IS IN YOUR CONTACTS!!!
I set standings currently based off any transaction, deal, major interaction i make with a character. so wtf ccp? :/ |

I've played for 7 years ive seen some pretty good updates and some bad, but this one dosent make sence to me, How are we supposed to function? CCP reply would really be much apreciated |

 It`s another badly thought out idea, implemented without proper testing again (I doubt whether any CCP testing staff have very big contact lists) ....and it isn`t the first time CCP have thought up inane ideas like this.. |

to rub more salt into it, they are merging blocked pilots with contact pilots too:D
I already have over 300pilots blocked alone.. |

Dear CCP, try managing a corporation or alliance with a 300 pilot cap. Better yet, ask a diplomat how large his contact list is (and block list) |

Another desperate workaround for 0,001% less lag. From what I saw on SISI there are no folders anymore? If so I don't like it because folders make sense. And 300 is a joke. |

what a lot of people seem to forget (beyond the fact that they fixed this as CCP just said), but also the ability to set ALLIANCE standing not just corp standings means no more alliances having to have every corp in an alliance set standings, no just 1 standing for entire alliance. |

Funnily enough Alliance to Alliance is the least problematic. It's the merging block lists and standings with contacts, and then limiting them to 300 for the individual. I easily have 300 legitimate contacts, and that is not factoring my personal standings to entities and my block list. 300 is just way too few; not all of us are social hermits. |

Not really. That affects alliance contacts (standings), while OP is worried about his personal buddy list. |

Merging the contacts and blocked players together is a terrible idea. I'd be a little annoyed if they moved contacts to a client side feature and removed the limit but no where near as annoyed as I am with this current move.
Making standings simple has only ruined their use in my eyes. I used to increase peoples standings by a fraction every time I had a dealing with them or if they did a good deed. Now I have to keep a note of everything out of game. I've even written an application to track my friends just so I don't have to have so many contacts in EVE any more. No folders? I included that in the primitive application I made.
What's the next step? The every day folk will just have contacts removed? I see a rise in API based contact lists out of game. Maybe a way to check online status via API? Anything just to remove it from being in-game.
This was an effort to reduce the amount of data being transferred during log in but I think it's more the blobs of people causing the issues. It's a shame but to be honest as long as blocked players and normal contacts are kept separate again 300 should be more than enough for 90% of EVE players. Anything more than 300 would usually require a lot of notes out of game anyway to keep track of who everyone is. :P |

Thank you as a loyal player for 7 years it's nice to see our player words heard and responded to so quickly, i must also say that i don't follow why blocked contacts would be merged with normal ones, We add them to blocked so we never have to deal with them again (normaly all scammers and isk sellers). |

Hi again all.
Some quick comments - we are aware of this and are keeping a close eye on this. There is absolutely no promise that we will change anything, but depending on what we see, it might.
Anyway, to clear up some issues.
All your existing buddies and people you have set standings to are now merged into your contacts. ALL OF THEM. Even if you have 1000. You will just be unable to add any more until you are under 300.
Also. The "block" list is not counted as part of that 300.
This 300 limit was already in the code for standings, so its just been ported to the new system. We did examine the DB to see how the merging of standings and buddy list would affect players, and the result was that less than 1% of characters would be affected by this.
But as I said above - it is under reconsideration.
