I've said this in a few places but... let me reiterate here.

Mankind thrives on conflict. I have always believed this. We are a species who build ourselves through a series of violent upheavals, each one driving us along to new heights both technologically and socially.

It is natural and desirable that we form our factions. Clans, tribes, corporations, nations, teams, cliques, cults, cabals, fandoms, subcultures, ideologies.... the terms don't matter, it all boils down to having a sense of "I belong to THESE groups, and not to these other ones".

we find our niche and we fight for it. We find ideas worth fighting, killing and dying for, and do just that. That is why we abhor the traitorous and treasonous among us perhaps most of all.

In the names of our chosen flags, we have waged and doubtless will wage terrible wars that scarred and reformed first the soils of the worlds we came from and, later, stripped whole asteroid belts from the skies, boiled worlds down to the bedrock and left the ragged tatters of billions of dreams behind.

This is terrible. it is also wholly desirable. It is how our species has come to be where we are. without this cruel drive to confront and overcome each other, we'd be a harmonious but dumb species of barely-sentients eking out a living among the other animals of long-legendary Earth.

Instead, we have competed with each other and our environment. We competed to live, to control the arable land, to take another tribe's women, to find new and better swords and armour for our wars, to find faster communication technologies to fund our financial empires, to produce better warp drives and exploit newer, more distant star systems.

Sansha's ideal is utopia - a harmony of mankind living together united in common purpose and free to choose their own destiny. I argue that this is the worst possible fate that could befall us.

The question is simple - how can you choose a destiny when the only way that destiny may be defined is through the triumph over adversity? If we define ourselves by the challenges we face, how can we hope to have any identity on the day when all our challenges are overcome?

Kuvakei's vision would set us on that path. Through toil and horrible, inhuman sacrifice, mankind would reach the stage where no outside influence remains against which to define and measure ourselves. The only possible route from there would be stagnation.

Only a coward embraces that destiny, or thinks it might be desirable. It is conservatism and Luddite-ism taken to the ultimate extreme. Change nothing, one Nation under the Master. Become only what He expects of us and nothing more. Aspire to nothing other than to serve Him perfectly.

I honestly pity those who embrace that philosophy of stasis. You lack the strength to accept the world for the terrible, glorious place that it is, and seek refuge in the arms of a man who would offer you eternal protection at the expense of becoming about as dynamic and interesting as a rock.

The world we live in is harsh. Our role in the universe is dark and cruel. But the challenges we face define us and drive us to improve ourselves in myriad ways.

Sansha's nation lack the strength to accept this truth. They hide from it, like the trolls of ancient Caldari legend hid their face from the sun. So long as you are content to do this thing only to your own, weak selves, then you are to be pitied but ignored.

But you insist on dragging people out of the light and into your stagnant darkness, and that is why you must be stopped.

Thank you for bringing this new challenge for us to overcome. You are strengthening us by it. But it will mean your annihilation.

Die well, Kuvakei.

That's my love!

And to the ignorant subhuman who issued her silly question, The Covenant and the Nation share positive standings towards each other.
This is no news since the beginning of times, in case you have missed the clock of the universe ticking.

* Looking down, caressing her lover's hair who is resting peacefully, head on her lap whispering "where the sun doesn't shine hum? * shaking her head amused and turning off the comms *

Thats not why I condemn him. If you took a little time to read around the issue you'd be able to comment with less ignorance colouring your perceptions.

I don't care about your private life, and I don't much care if Nation and the Blood Raiders have been in bed together for the last thousand years. I simply find it hilarious that you, of all people, would accuse another of hypocrisy. And, by the way, I did read around the issue, and while it wasn't the only reason, it was on the list. Perhaps it was one of the other members of your merry band that claimed he was responsible for the deaths of the crewmen upon the ship you destroyed. Apparently the crew of ships mean less to you than to your compatriots.

Regardless, that is beside the point. I simply thought I'd share the delicious irony I found in your accusation of hypocrisy. I suppose you found less amusement in it than I. I can always hope that someone else smiled at it.

In case you haven't noticed, everyone in this universe, and especially IGS, is a hypocrite to one degree or another. Few, if any, have the right to throw stones.

Or we could cease bickering about pointless issues that have naught to do with the current situation at hand...being the Nation's open invasion of Empire space and his call to arms for a new era...or so it would seem.

In other, more crude terms: Cut the crap, get over yourself and point your guns at the real enemy.

The vast majority of this thread consists of drones, fools, and attention *****s pledging their allegiance to Nation. Unfortunately, this includes my own CEO, into whom I am going to have to beat some sense.

Victoria holds up a large bludgeoning weapon with the title "The Clue Bat" stenciled on the side.

The remainder of the thread consists of people condemning the aforementioned and declaring them traitors and such. Interspersed are occasional thoughtful, meaningful, or insightful posts. And then there's some drivel, a bit of which I found entertaining and decided to play with, hoping for a laugh or two. Instead, it seems I offended our resident child and her mother, for which I apologize.

Oh, and on an entirely unrelated note, could those people setting all the toasters and friends to permanent red leave me off of that for now? At least let me do something to deserve it first - for the last few days, I've been flying against Sansha's invasion forces, only to find myself blacklisted from the defense channel and unable to assist further. Given those that I have lost to Nation in the past, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue kicking their asses, even if my CEO is a fool.

Victoria brandishes the Clue Bat once more before signing off.

I pledge allegiance, to playing a role, now that I have been told there is something to gain.

I pledge allegiance, to being a hypocrite, because I am an opportunistic slob.

I pledge allegiance, to abandoning my ideals, because there might be loot pinatas or other such rewards involved.

I pledge allegiance, to try to create cease fires with my enemies, so that we can both partake in said loot pinatas and potential rewards.

Stecker! Insolence will not be tolerated. The rise of The Nation has granted New Eden with more pain and suffering than we could possibly hope to achieve at this time. We must embrace this development and stand united with Master Kuvakei. Allegiance to his Nation will provide endless opportunity to illuminate humanity of it's hopelessness.

Presuming for a moment that Kuvakei succeeds, wouldn't that necessarily mean that every remaining person's pain and suffering ceases in the endgame? Surely, you can't believe that Kuvakei would leave free will intact for anyone, even those loyal capsuleers who help him achieve his ends, because free will necessarily threatens any single man's idea of Utopia. Once you are all enslaved and under the opiate effect of having your own consciousness suppressed in favor of Kuvakei's will, your beloved pain and suffering will be buried under an artificial euphoria.

No matter how appealing Sansha's Nation may seem in the short term, its actions coinciding with your agenda, the long-term end only fulfills Kuvakei's agenda. Sansha's Nation does not represent a true collective consciousness, but rather a directive hive. The price of loyalty to Sansha's Nation is nothing less than your soul.

Unfortunately, that argument only works based on the assumption that Kuvakei and Nation will eventually succeed in their conquest. Based on past experience, it seems more likely that they will be crushed once again by the four empires once Nation presents itself as a sufficient threat and viable target. In the meantime, they are inflicting misery on a scale that we could not hope to match. We care nothing for the collective hive or suppression of individuality. It is merely the suffering, pain, and misery that aids our cause.

In the end, Walken is right.

My hatred of Nation is personal, however, and far deeper than my commitment to Hell's will or my CEO's commands. Were any other force to descend upon the cluster with such devastation and ruin, I would stand beside it in a heartbeat. But I will stand against Sansha's Nation until my dying breath - and even after, courtesy of clones. If anyone else in ORCHA has a problem with that, they may kiss my lovely round ass. Just pray that I'm in a good mood if we meet face to face - it wouldn't be the first time I cut out a capsuleer's implants. It makes death much less survivable.

Additionally, while it is difficult to quash ideas with firepower, a physical contagion may be purged by fire-- if necessary, through the destruction of the afflicted.

It is not an idea we face, now, but a consequence, a ripple of destruction cast across history by an act of terrible arrogance. Its implanted minions suffer from a plague. They are victims of catastrophe.

All that remains is to mitigate the damage, save those who can be saved-- but at all events, to end the contagion. If what is necessary is to burn the afflicted to the very last, so be it.

Jamyl Sarum bare would very probably raise eyebrows all across the cluster, yes. In related news, a public service announcement - I will not bare with you or anyone else unless they buy me dinner first, and even then it's more of a might than a will.

What..? Oh, right! Nation, denouncing thereof. I love shootin' at the Nation - most of them are drones with little or no individuality, so I don't have to feel bad afterwards. Doesn't it kind of sting that a rag-tag bunch of capsuleers who spend about as much time in-fighting as repelling your perfect Nation manage to throw as big a wrench in the works as they do, Mr. Kuvakei? We'll learn and do worse yet, too. It's what we do. Podder Power!

And all of us have the right to ask if an enforcer for slavery is best placed to launch a crusade opposing slavery. So here we are. Perhaps its better simply for you to allow others to speak and let understanding fall where it may. If we are all hypocrites perhaps we should all have our say and allow open communication to be our sole redeeming attribute. It is a start after all.

I hear all of this and I wonder; have any of the decriers any inkling of what is happening or what Kuvakei intends? They speak of "mindless slaves" and removal of "free will", but can any of you honestly say that you have witnessed any of this? All you know, is the rhetoric and the stories told to you by the authorities, which you readily regurgitate; information from authorities who are known to be liars and been caught in the act before. If you who are so against the Nation are willing to take the authorities at their word, to accept their self-serving propaganda, then I submit that it is you who are the mindless slaves. You slowly lose your free will every day you remain in "civilized space" as you lose your ability to think for youselves; you become wholly dependent on the state in which you live for guidance and control. You begin to yearn for it and cannot live without it. You become so inerred, so hopelessly dependent, that you will fight to the bitter end to protect something you don't even understand. You fight for a system that uses and abuses you, then casually discards you as you become no longer useful, as sure as a loyal slave is put down when they become feeble and witless with old age.
If this is what you want to fight for, to die for, then so be it. I will be happy to oblige you in turning your vessels into mangled tombs.
