Well, who wouldn't like three clones of themselves, one of the same and two of the other gender ?
Truly a nightmarish thought. On the upside, if anyone told you to go ---- yourself at least you'd be able to comply.

5 to 10% of human population are gay, lesbian, or bi.
Seems way high to me.

I live in a "gay neighborhood" within San Francisco. Even here I'd be hard pressed to call the gay population higher than 15 or 20 percent.

You forget about the excessive quantity in the closet, on the down low, etc. As for why I generally get ****ed off, its because America is not particularly nice to gay people, yeah, San Francisco is nice, Chicago is nice, most major cities are pretty much fine with gay people. Then there's the rest of the country, and people like that **** Palin, and the teabaggers, and the neo-cons, and it just ****es me off. My friend got jumped as he was walking home by fifteen people saying they were going to kill him because he was gay, luckily there was a police car not less than a block away. This was in Chicago, mind you, one of the most gay-friendly cities in America...

And I really don't see what the issue is with letting others know you're gay. A while back there was a post where a South African wanted to know if there were any other South Africans in the game. Suppose he should have been told that it doesn't matter and he's just calling unneeded attention to himself too... Rolling Eyes

This. And uh, what neighborhood and when?? I live in Chicago, my partner lives downtown (east loop) and I live on the southside (it's close to work, I'm never there the neighborhood is down right sketchy and I'm shacking up with him anyway, who wouldn't want to live in the loop downtown?!? LOL).

RE: WHAI R DEY SAYING DEY R TEH GHEY IN A GAME?! ~ stuff:

Humans seek out others like them, in all things - even make believe worlds like this one. As I've said before, we gays/queers/whatev have the benefit of being a part of a gaming community (this one) that generally accepts us and / or doesn't give a crap who we are IRL. Still, it's nice to keep in contact with others who share similar life experiences. Nobody balked at the thread a few months back for Eve Pilots who are Dads or something like that. Female pilots associate with each other, etc etc. And there's nothing wrong with that. My personally feeling is that we should disperse among the rest of you, and not close ourselves off. Otherwise, the moonbat members of the other team will never get over how "icky" we seem.

I think its because Gender is more of an issue for people in general, people have very strong opinions/dislikes about that..

(Judging from some posts earlier it seems if your Gender doesnt correlate with your Sex, you are automatically a birth defect, maybe they are right (Im not a scientist or anyone with facts) but it does sound condescending to me when I hear it)

Anyway, I hope you have found some peace of mind, dear OP ugh

Because it's a personal choice that really makes no difference. Or at least, it shouldn't do.

I don't care if someone is gay or straight so long as they know how to fit their spaceship and like the pew pew :)

I live in Bernal Heights. L-Word ground zero.

My housemate is gay and has, in the past, filled my house to the rafters with girls watching the L-Word and packed my bathroom with boys putting on makeup.

I suppose there are closeted people here, but it would be kind of silly. Straights and gays alike celebrate gay culture in San Francisco. Friends, coworkers and strangers on the street are generally out and matter-of-fact about their orientation. Being in the closet here would be like a carnivore going to a steak restaurant to falsely declare himself a vegetarian.

But even here it's tough to call the gay population higher than about 15%.

3% to 5% nationally I'd believe. Which, incidentally, isn't small. The Jewish population in the US is about 2% if I remember correctly. The African American population is about 11%.

It's a choice to declare your gender/sexuality, I don't mean to say that you choose it.

Obviously you are born that way...

What I'm saying is, why do you feel the need to advertise it?

Why turn it into an issue?

How someone someone dresses or who they sleep with doesn't really have any impact in a game of internet spaceships, that's what I'm getting it.

If I fleet up with someone then all I care about is the ship they fly, the fit they have and how they are as a person - nothing else.

As soon as I say I'm logging out because my wife and I are going out for Chinese food, I've "advertised" it. Suddenly I've got my gay marriage mixed up in their internet spaceships by doing nothing more than explaining why I couldn't stay longer on an op.

It is nice to know who else is out there, if for nothing else than to know which corps are definitely cool with gay people or more importantly which aren't or to have a chat with people who aren't spouting anti-glbt terms every third word.

You know I can can see the point of a corporation or alliance promoting itself as LGBT or LGBT friendly I really can. The common baseline culture of gamers in some corps and orgs in Eve is pretty childish beavis and butthead style meme-posting trash and I think useful for people to be able to make an informed choice about the kind of community they want to be part of when they decide to join a corp.

Take SF for example, we've been around as an alliance for 5 years now, and JF as a corp for a couple of years before that. We've got players who have become good friends out of game, and its evolved into a community that goes beyond Eve Online and becomes a decent social venue for people involved. I think its important for people of a particular life-style or focus to know that they are good to commit their time and effort and trust in our organization because the leadership is LGBT friendly and the atmosphere of the alliance is open-minded, laid back and pretty respectful of the human interactions in general.

I think it would be terrible betrayal for a player that had committed to us long term to log onto vent one evening and have to listen to a hours worth of ***-bashing from some prejudiced teenager and have to either close their ears and put up with the abuse or have to leave the alliance over it.

Hence, it makes sense to me that corps and orgs can define themselves by the atmosphere they promote and whether they are open-minded and mature environments for fostering community or (on the other extreme) clannish memefests with l33t kiddies slagging off anybody who isn't them from the comfort of their parent's basement.

Of course Eve is big enough for all kinds of corp and organization and we can express our disatisfaction for other ideologies easy enough through the medium of wardecs, mercs, missiles and laser beams so it all works out well in the end.

But ultimately LGBT is a lifestyle choice, a political choice, personal choice and like all choices its a good idea to know if you will be able to get on the people you expect to spend time with. From my perspective I enjoy spending gaming time and cooperative playing with the LGBT people in my alliance because quite aside from their lifestyle preferences they tend to be laid back, open-minded and decent people who I can handle chatting to on vent through the course of combat ops and POS sieges :)

Takes all sorts, but its never a bad idea to be informed about who is or is not tolerant enough to mix with other lifestyles.

Imagine if we had a Atheist awareness day or events to remember the inquisition / crusade days and how the dark ages screwed everything up people would be pretty confused.

I think we have gotten past the 'Gays are evil' days, at one point women, left handed, gingers etc people were ridiculed but theres no groups / events for them

People abuse the prejudice / discrimination card ALL THE TIME and its really screwed up, I know 'gay' is used as a general word for describing anything whether good / bad, like getting a reply on a thread called gay or a setup in game being gay. I dont find this an offense or even remotely bad however theres a reason why certain words are used.

Take the N word and 'gay', trolls WILL use these words, (check 4chan / youtube for example), imagine if a person said "oh all left handed people are unnatural and its a disease", people would be like 'k' at best but the second gay people or a race gets insulted theres a threadnought of flames and tears.

My point is stop all the singling out crap, these awareness things and branding / titling crap yes there was a time when things were bad but times have changed (at least for Europe) doing it now is no different to having 'Ginger awareness day' -.-

As for LGBT in eve , if someone treats you bad in game because you are gay (chances are they are trolling), petition them (chat logs will confirm it) but dont make a group, I sincerely hope this is more of a chilled out channel for EVERYONE and topics are not limited and closed to sexuality otherwise I would like to join a Atheist channel, see what I mean?

One one hand I understand people being uncomfortable with LGBT members being out and proud...but isnt a little hypocritical when I have to see so much (unflattering in many cases aswell!) blatant heterosexuality around aswell? Couples kissing , billboards, movies, internet and fora filled with topics where people prowess their love for the other sex or have something to complain about..

I guess it doesnt work the other way around, and like Zedic says...if you don't experience it -whether its being LGBT, Muslim, Having Ovary cancer or being a single mother/dad who lost their partner - you should be cautious with what you say

Well, for those that asked about Latinamerica ... well.

Not very friendly, depending on where you live.

Most Latinamerica still holds dear Roman Catholic Apostolic creeds and beliefs, so being openly gay is a matter of scorn by certain elements of society, on other places it's just "meh, whatever, just keep quiet about it"

Even though there's obviously gay people on the street in latinamerica, most males will gather together and tease them, bully them or the most civilized ones will make crude gay jokes.

On Venezuela, there was this famous comic humor show where one of the leading and most popular actors was an overly gross gay man, and most latin american heterosexual men might act "gay" amongst themselves as a sort of inner joke, but in essence I have always seen gay men here are portrayed as objects of jokes and pranks, not to be taken seriously and dismissed as such, so in that part I think we are still a bit backwards, comparable to some attitudes in certain regions of the USA of prejudice and bigotry.

But Gay men aside, I noticed a late trend, right before leaving Venezuela of certain male sectors having very discreet sexual encounters, queries and mix ups with Transexuals/*******s, specially from Brazil and Colombia.

Something worth of study, even in Panama, I have seen the demand for transexuals rise, something you can clearly see from the number of them showing up offering their services daily.

I have always been a curious mind regarding sexuality, transexuals in particular, regarding roles, specially due to my College grad Thesis being based on Sandra Bem's theory of Psychological Androgyny

Interesting field of study.

If you are interested we basically managed to normalize for Venezuela Sandra Bem's Inventory and applied it to our college pop to check for its existence and theorized about the possible use of Psychological Androgyny as a Tool for problem solving, the data showing that it goes beyond gender and focuses more on roles.

Transexuals, due to their own inner psychology and sexuality are an ideal camp to test this even further. Sadly I had to flee my country and studies Sad

Just to add up to this thread, dont forget transexuals Very Happy

I'd say taylor St. to North-side (Evanston)and as far west as the Kennedy, is gay friendly. The south side and beyond is another story. Its like gentrification stopped at UIC.

Btw. I used to live near Roscoe's and Sidetrack while i was at college. Market days was fun, but the entire scene is a little cliche. I haven't been back in that neighborhood for years. Last time was when my friend took me shopping with him at the sex shops. Shocked

As mentioned before me trannies are people who suffer from a birth defect. And they are the first to say so. They were born in the wrong body… that’s like sci-fi levels of ****ed up. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to have ones body and mind be so out of sync. There’s no therapy or pill that can end the inner torment of being in the wrong body. And on top of the inner torment there’s the outer torment. Even in “tolerant” places they’ll suffer scorn and ridicule and even threats or violence. And in poorer countries they may have to prostitute themselves to afford the hormone treatments and most likely will never be able to afford the surgery they need to correct their defect. Man… there’s few people in this world that got it worse than the trannies.

And as far as wanting to be with people like you… I don’t get it. If you want to talk to somebody like you why not just talk to yourself? I find it way more fun and interesting to meet people who are nothing like me. When create these exclusive social groups (gay, woman, x race, y religion, z political group) you are robbing people of the chance to get to know you. And don’t you think you’re worth meeting?
