In ships and modules, most fits we see are combat ships. Why? i asked myself? Why are those that do not rely on fighting seem to shy away? I discovered the answer. Non fighting ships have very little fitting oppurtunities, such as a mining barge: how are you going to fit it? Strip miners and expanded cargoholds, of course! And the fact that the classes of non combat ships are outnumbered 2:1 by the combat ships. This bugs me. Even though ima PvE'r, that doesnt mean i dont fly indys sometimes just for a good time (like my Loleron V). With new gamers that want new things, EVE needs to change and add ships, because everyone wants varaity. There are so many professions that dont have ships dedicated to them, such asaa the Researchers, the Salvagers. we need more classes of ships! Heres what i think: Research ships- a class of ships specificaally designed to fire probes and seek out new places. Bonuses: 10% probe scanning speed per level. Usually these ships would be around 400 meters long, go relatively slow, hold alot of cargo, have alot of HP and relatively high resists, but get a penalty that is 25% RoF reduction, like destroyers. 4 turret points and 2 launcher points. They would be similair to cruiserss in regards t the capacity, but more CPU then most ships, along wiwth a 2% bonus to CPU per level
Salvage ships- small anad fast, salvagers arae quick and nimble, designed to pick up treasures from wrekcks. Similaiar to destroyers yet only 200m long and with a small signataure radius, they are quick and align fast, along with hod 400m3 of stuff. Enough highs for 3 salvagers and 3 tractor beams, they will have Capacity similair to cruisers and CPU more like frigates. They have a 5% bonous o acessing speed per level aand fit much like a cruiser.
Support ships- This is a class of ships designed to fit battaries of aratilllery and support fleets at long range. Expensivee and around 800m long, these ships are behemoths. Whaat they do, howver, is get a 40% bonus to range of racial guns per level, except gallante ship which has a arail bonus and the caldari has a cruise missile bonus. Ships are slow and can hit out to 150km with battleship sized gunes, fitting 10 turret hardpoints for every races ship except caldari, which haas 10 launcher hardpoints. 5% penalty to tracking speed though, asa these are long raange. Fitting like a battleship except slitghly more slots. Heavy tanks but extremely slow, 80m/s?
Thats my take. This is my troll. Comment on the classes ive thought up and make your own, if you want. Just wanted to gauge community reaction to change, and i dont expect the CCP's to evven bother with this. But maaybe, just maybe, this will be the start of something. IF the class of ship you make is good enough, ill add it in. |

Research ships - we have covert ops Salvage ships - destroyers / battlecruisers any ship with lots of highs and big cargo + Marauders* Support ships - BS tier 3 bs are capable to shoot at 200+ range's
*Example fitting : 1) If salvage during mission : High : 2 salvagers, 1 tractor, mission fit Other slots : mission fit
2) If salvage after debrief mission. High : 4 salvagers, 3 tactors Med : MWD, AB, Capacitor to sustain MWD, whatever Low : Cargo exp, whatever Rigs, Drones : whatever. |
