Oh he's cheating and he needs to be banned. And PL fools who defend him will be looked down upon as should be.

SWEET, finally a man that sounds like he knows exactly what's going on!

So, what proof did you find that Monkey is cheating?

You sound so sure, you must have something right?

...

Right?

Man, you should be careful, or your unfounded smear campaign could result in people looking down on Atlas, as it should be.

The proof is in the pudding. Monkey is guilt and will be banned along with his other PL accomplishes who also abuse the game. And don't worry, everyone looks down on PL, you have nothing to worry about.

You think there is a chance of resolution of this during the weekend? Does ccp even work during the weekend? I guess we gotta wait till Monday to maybe get the final score.

I would say it's going to be a minimum of at least a week until ccp comments on the no local hax that have been demonstrated in this thread. However you will never ever hear anything official about if monkey was banned or not and only the ones who keep track of him in their address book will have any clue. Sorry but ccp never comments on gm actions.

simple fix is ...

to remove local unless you have sov lvl 4+ otherwise you dont appear in local as per wormholes.

this would not apply to any npc space IE empire or pirate factions.

I like Aja's idea.

Having a delayed local like in WH if you are in a 0.0 system where there isn't a sov module (maybe lvl3+?) or its not a pirate faction space makes sense.

This is done and suddenly 0.0 space is dangerous and fun again. Bots can happily macro in their sov systems, carebears can mine and run plexes in peace, and pirates can have fun. You can move large fleets undetected through nullsec to execute complex and effective strategies... CCP should consider this.

I always thought that should have been the function of the old system scanner. Or possibly at the other end of the spectrum you could put it in each players individual hands with a jetable anchorable beacon that replaces local with a new scanner screen that shows how many active player piloted objects are in the system. That way you could know if people jump in and that they are around but have no idea who they are or what they are in. It could of course be tweaked on how effective it is and if it is persistant like a bubble or you lose control of it if you jump system and have to redeploy. This will promote use of the d-scan and proper scouting for intel but still make it accessable to any pilot with a few m3 to spare in the cargohold to be able to have local like intel but limit it so that there is no huge passive information feed that the current model gives.

oo tangential local nerf argument, where will this thread not go?

also this is a picture of the original elite scanner. it effectively worked like the tactical overlay but it sat on the bottom middle of your screen. This kind of 3d scanner, if live and set to cover a number of au sufficient to allow a switched on pilot to make a decision, would be the complete local removal solution.

edit: also could this then allow things like scanning to be dropped onto the scanner instead of opening a map screen or w/e? Plus other useful applications I cant think of right now.

Personally, I always thought that, if you had the proper skills trained, you could have a perma scanner with a limited range, so you could auto detect any SHIP or PROBE that gets within a 1-5 AU sphere (say, auto refreshes every 3-5 seconds) of your ship. I HATE having to spam the D-Scan button, it is a horrible idea.

Use skill limitations, make a requirement to not have the ship in warp, and only allow combat ships the capability to use this (so shuttles, pods, iterons, orcas, miners etc wont have it) so it restricts the amount of load on the server.

If things like these were available, people wouldn't have to use and depend on local as an intel source, and wouldn't have to develop carpool tunnel when looking for probes, etc.

I can see the incoming cheater trolls and their "but macros will use this super scanner and NOW it will be IMPOSSIBLE to catch them even if we use our monkey cheat" rants. It's ok, your opinions will be irrelevant after you get banned.

Problem is wormhole local is not so let's say "wormhole".
Voices in my head told me that there's a reverse exploit. Which allows you to show pilots in current system. But this is not something I have tangible proof of. Its just voices.

It's very possible.
Imagine if the original design did not include cloaks or did not consider the possible consequences as worth spending additional money and require additional server load.

Edit: imagine also the "era" of when the original architecture was made and how much stringent conditions were applied (ie much lower bandwidth, slower servers, way slower DB server...).

In that case, an obvious shortcut would be to have a server maintained list of ships in the system, the clients would dynamically attach / detach off their current grid and thus see a subset of the total ships. But the cloaky ships would be fed in the local grid list to be sent to clients and just "masked out".

A relatively easy set of techniques would reveal the whole grid list including the masked out ones.

Without even the need to crack into the client, the exploiter would create (or auto-create, the facility exists for that) a bookmark with external TCP IP injection and then the bookmark would become available to warp to, the target should just have moved by few kms by then.

I've started my studies as a programmer in early '90. I've finished and graduated in the '99.
The red line of our studies as interface designers and database administrators was "NEVER EVER TRUST CLIENT INPUT".

Grid? It's new for you that whole solarsystem is sent to client?

As long as it's game content and doable... GUESS WHAT?! It's NOT a bug, it's a FEATURE!

/troll

Oh well, I've seen that done many time, especially recently when sometimes nothing except local loads after logging in for 5-10 minutes with bad luck.

EDIT: Just what come into my mind... The funnier part is when you jump and you get the waiting for clearance at the stargate - traffic control. You do get cloacked. BUT! If you quickly burn away from the gate (practically only frigs since all other modules are dead) and go out of jump range, you will stay cloacked, be able to bump people and fly around the grid. Leaving grid caused me to de-cloack when I was trying the trick. You can't do any damage since all modules are dead, you will get a text saying something like 'you can't activate modules while cloacked' nor even target people. But the 'wtf factor' when you get bumped by thin air is hillarious. Unfortunetally even if you fly away, the gate may activate suddenly and jump you even though you were 100k off the gate already. Still, it's fun even though you'r visibile in local all the time. I haven't found a way to de-cloack my self not warping away from grid.

The really sad thing is you know CCP will not tell anyone thier findings and reprocussions of this.

The only thing that we will know is when the fun stops. Like those gambling pamplets you see at Vegas casinos. Monkey gambled and won for a very, very long time. Finally, he's caught and time to break his legs. Yes, it really does happen.
Meaning no more cheating Monkey.

CCP is going to send him on a very long journey to which there is no return.

Everyone so bye, bye to the Monkey.

yes, no one will know what the repercussions are (if any). no one will even know if the /guilty party is guilty!

so, let's just assume guilt and concoct a fantasy world where CCP will ban him and consider the battle won!

Remove local in Null Sec

It'd help clear up lag, make scouts have to work harder with probes, shut up that person who keeps going on and on about afk cloakers reigning terror, lead to more small scale engagements and result in some tasty, tasty tears
