Years ago, I was ratting in the stinking pit called Geminate, and I went afk for a couple minutes to make dinner as I polished off the last BS. I cranked my sound up so I could hear if something else started to lock me. While I was cutting up something, the lock noise goes off, and it startled me enough that I cut myself pretty badly. Blood everywhere. I got back and found my pod in a station.

TL;DR: A pirate drew blood IRL.

I have had a great time reading this thread :)

As I am still learning the ropes on this new business. I'm bound to make some more mistakes.

I found this [Insert Player Name]'s Hurricane. Checking the age of the character. Ok only 2-3 weeks at age, and he has not changed name of his ship... ratting in lowsec. I decide that my Ishkur could have a fair chance.
I'm thinking to myself, well maybe it is a trap. It could be a bait of some kind. So I had the scanner setup so I should see if there is anyone else incoming. Arrived at the belt at 30km distance from the target.

At this time I was so excited that I forgot all about traps and not.

The target was blinking green(red), had a skull, was not the same name on the overview as the ship had. Well nothing registrered in my mind. I lock, scramble, attack and everything. He had some buddies showing up... I realised I was lost and tried my best to get out of range, sent my drones to a frigate that arrived.

It took me a few good moments before I went "omg. did you change name of who had the ship?"

Next big mistake I did was when attacking this Tristan and Thorax I scanned down. I had just got a new ship, a comet. I thougth it would be a nice ship to test out, and finding two possible targets I was overly excited. I had to go for it.

Yarr, here I come.

Approaching the Thorax, while being sure that the Tristan pilot would go and save the Thorax. I sent the drones for the Tristan, scrambling and fires at the Thorax. All goes well, the Tristan pops.
I start to take to much damage in all of this. But I could not really figure out why. Targeted and killed some drones. Focused my attack again on the Thorax.

Waiting into the last moment before I finally decide that I should go for an escape. I had 30% hull left.
Right click -> Favourite station -> Dock.

What is all this docking lag about? Ok I spam the dock button...
An eternity later the mail and wallet starts to blink. I have now recieved the stupidity award and the ISK that comes with the price.

I now have a more descent way to escape on :)

I have a long road to go :)

A very simple, and considering the calibre in this thread, entirely unworthy, but if nothing else a tale of learning.

About three months into the game, a few characters ago. A brand new Purifier; the fruit of my skillplans loins. Popped a few haulers in Illuin after some can flipping nonsense.

Confident. Brash, even. Invincible.

Head to my first ever quiet lowsec system. Whip around belts. Find a ratting Stabber. Guaranteed kill, obviously! Less HP than a Mammoth!

Lock, paint and FIRE! Make a minimal dent in his shields. This isn't right... though new, even I know that I had a bonus to EM damage. Sod it. Align and warp to a moon, cloak, fly upwards. Stabber warps in right behind me, about 5km below. Sigh of relief. Stabber pilot invites me to fleet up, so that we can ''rat together''. Type abuse in local; I'm not stupid. Warp back to gate, jump.

And here I learned my first lesson about Global Criminal Countdown.

When I had this toon at about 3 months old I decided to troll lowsec for the first time in a rifter. I'm salvaging some random wreck in a belt waiting for someone to find me. Wolf warps in so I go after him, but I shot the wreck instead. Wolf dispatches me in about 5 seconds, so I jump out of the system in my pod, go to get my cyclone and see if I can blow him up in that...didn't know what a gcc was or why the aggression countdown was red and not yellow. Undock and was in my pod before the black screen was gone lol.

I once decided to wardec some macro miners. I did my research, made a shortlist of corps and members, sent the decs, and was pleasantly surprised when one group didn't instantly jump corp the minute the mail arrived from Concord.

Dec goes live.

Log in, get gank thorax. I know they are online, and they are almost always in the same system. Enter system, check local, see names with pretty red marks. Find one in a belt, in a barge no less. Heart quickens (newb pvper here sorry). Only one thing for it:
Hit MWD, lock, jam, let rip with my med blasters + drones.

wait wtf? I'm geting hit? must be his drones. Damn they hit hard. And what are all those Concord doing here... *POP*

Turns out that I had set several corps to -ve standing in order to ID members with a quick glance through local. And I had been nearly as efficient at clearing the standings once I had no need of them Embarassed Bugger scooped my dropped loot too.

After a rather successfull day stomping around grabbing ore and one or two kills to boot I found myself in the same belt as a mining rupture with a can out. Great! I thought, might get a bit of isk here. So I limber on up in my iteron V and swipe the ore. Then, rather suprisingly he put more in the can. Oh god is this a macro miner?

In short no, it wasnt. It was a perfect trap.

After taking my fill and making a cool million from two trips I went back to the belt to find I was faced with a re-fitted rupture that opened up on me with just about every weapon going. But my shield held firm... Ah a kill comming here.

So I lock him up, eventually, and started to pound on him with my little gun. His shield buckled and dropped but as I started to chip away at his armour another ship turned up, a coercer. This might be bad.

Then to my horror a crow turns up and bam, I am scammed with all three of them slugging away upon me. Yet. My shields are refusing to drop below 46%. This is too good to be true. So I re-target and go after the coercer when disaster! A Vexor joins the fight and also points me!

Drones fly, autocannos blair away, light missiles hammer into me and lasers melt away. Can I hold all of this?
40%.
35%.
The shields on the coercer are at 50%, just a little more and I might have this. But alas, it is just not to be. My sheilds fail, armour is stripped away and as my hull crumbles and burns all around me I wonder, are they going to be pleased by killing me or ashamed they needed to bring all of that firepower to take down a haulerugh

I was out roaming in Essence a few jumps from OMS in a Hyperion. I was in FW at the time. Spot a gang of about 15 cruisers and they spot me. All of them but a Vexor jumps through.

Sitting 10km from the gate it's obvious bait, but they had all jumped through so I figured gank the Vexor burn to the gate and cross jump once they agress. Then split them up further on the other side.

Well everythings going great Vexor melts and I'm already on the gate by the time they jump. I go ahead and pop my exile, but as more of them get in range my tank can't quite keep up. Spam jump.

By this point agression should be over. I check my modules. Hmmm...they're all off. Try to jump again still have agression. It's at this point I notice the 'Drones in Space (5)'. Dammit. I recall my drones an overload reps.

I sit there for a bit longer and try to jump again. No, NO. ****. My 1b isk faction fit Hyperion died with 3 seconds left on my agression timer.

Ok, so I used to do a fair bit of suicide ganking on haulers running though .5 systems. Torp raven with 3 TP's/2 SB's/cargo scanner, alt in hauler, the usual deal.

Ended up in an prov alliance for a while, so no piracy/suicide ganking. After a few month's we leave and I decide to use some of the 5.0 status I'd racked up with some ganks.

Problem was I didn't really remember the fit's or the way I used to do it, so I started doing some thinking, then found this neat setup that I liked.

Find a juicy target, t1 hauler AFKing though with Galente Carrier skillbook. 450 mil. Lock him down, light him up, boom, hauler on the wreak, book survived, scooped and warp ou- why is my alt in a pod?

Turns out that using the hauler alt to remote sensor boost the torp raven WASN'T the best idea I've ever had.

But ALAS, the book survived THAT hauler wreak too, think think think think, 2 GCCed characters, how do I get it now? Jita-price checker alt! Log him on, in his bantam, start burning. Making sure I make scary faces at passing traffic from the pod to keep them away from the book. 2 jumps to go! Faster faster faster no no no go away merlin, go away go...

Some 2 week old character in a merlin goes and scoops the loot Sad

For an added insult, I forgot to insure the raven. I didn't have a good day

In further suiciding **** up news.

Was out suiciding with some friends in high sec. We lost our hauler pilot, so after some moaning a corpmate flew all the way to jita, fit up and rigged a blockade runner, and flew back.

The camp is set up. About 60 seconds later I wonder what my locking speed is on my gank maelstrom on industrial sized targets, so I prime my guns and click on our hauler - intending to click NO on the concord pop up ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS?

Of course there is no concord popup when shooting a corp mate as it is not a concordable offence. ZOMG - One volleyed the hauler. Raging Corp mate sat in pod trying to work out what happened.

and couple of years ago and not exactly the stuff of legends, and against no one in particular.

Once on a warm early summer morning, i tried to cyno a capital of mine out a certain system.

i whip the recon out, gang the the cap pilot, fly to destination, fire the cyno.

click jump to. Nothing happens.

i continue trying to jump, firing cyno after cyno. Frustration levels reaching heart-attack-waiting-to-happen levels.

regardless, i kept on trying, and so an hour later i realize: Capital pilot is docked in station.

i don't know how high up the fail-scale this ranks, but i don't really want to know.

Very fresh fail of mine. Involves alcohol.

So I'm a little drunk and decide to go and canflip someone. I find a nice drake, doing missions. Figuring out merlin would not be up to job, I grab my pve drake, slap disruptor into one mid and warp ahead.

Got criminal flag, targetted guy. Unfortunately, he warps out instead of aggroing me. Oh well, maybe he'll be back, I'll wait around. Oh look, nice angel battleships, maybe he will be ****ed if I shoot and loot them.

Yeah, pve is so much fun, shields hold, just reload and switch targets, yawn, *zZZZz*

I wake up some ten minutes later, in pod.

Not only rats finally broke my tank, my "victim" came back and joined in on the fun. I exchange few words in convo, warp out, came back in frig and collect modules from my wreck under fire, still chatting with guy. I decide to have another go at him, go to grab another drake and go back.

Well, he has a friend in domi now, remote repping him, so we can all sit there until we run out of ammo. I exchange few pleasantries, warp out and log off with yet another loss on my board. Still, was fun. Very Happy

6 weeks into the game, I learned all this, in my first attempt to conquer low sec:Laughing

1. Myrmidons are NOT Invincible.Embarassed
2. Insurance pays out,(if you can afford one)Rolling Eyes
3. Neuts are bad for active tanks with railgunsCrying or Very sad
4. AB needs capSmile
5. Hardeners should be activated.Wink
6. PVE-fit is still a PVE-fit,even if you have a target painterRazz
7. 5 "Hobgoblin I" don't do the same amount of dmg, as compared to 10 "Hobgoblin II"Shocked
8. If your Myrmidon is targeted by a big, brown "Drake", It is probably not a Drake, but a "Hel"MothershipConfused

I lasted about 15 seconds, with no cap to even fire back.or activate repper for more than 1 cycle Embarassed
Epic Fail on one side, epic lols on the other.(i guess)
8 things learned in 15 seconds? Something my teachers could only have dreamed of.Surprised

"Long" time lurker, first time poster.
I've recently embarked unto the path that will eventually lead me to being a low life scumbag in EvE (and thus in RL, amirite ? ;)).
This is an ironic tale of fail, showing how bloodlust can blind you and make you a silly incompetent.

Roaming around two dead end lo sec systems looking for a target to take on with my Jaguar. Two guys in local, a Russian and a mutual blue.
I make the assumption the blue in is the Cheetah, and the Dramiel is my target. This is crucial to the developing story of funny failure...

Tap the dir scan, bounce around for close to an hour, before making contact. Oooh, he's yellow...

Target, mutual lock, and then I get kited and disrupted from 16-20km out. I'm ab fit, and I forget to burn litterally all my mods I'm so excited to tangle with an 80 mil faction frig, or to look at my drones tab for that matter.
Result, I can't close in, and even with barrage (had to reload, yes, reload to even hit him), my 150s are doing little to no damage at that distance, and I obviously forgot about the 3 Warrior IIs pounding my arse back to my pod (not that I could have really hit them I think)

Can't close, he's doing over 1200 m/s on his ab fit, and without heat, I'm around 900 max.

Now comes the fail : I ask the blue for help in local, and he answers speaking in the third person : Ha, the help he'll bring in a Cheetah. I should have known by then, but no... (incidentally, no alcohol involved too early in the day for me)

Jaguar blows up, head back to station in pod, after GFin in local, addressing the Russian, who probably answered WTF !!???

The blue also docks, and he's got a GCC skull next to his name, starts giving me advice on the fight, about how I should have dealt with the drones, how the Jag is a good, if not best frig to tangle with Dramiel.
I ask him : you watched the fight cloaked in your Cheetah ?
Now, a bit of creative writing : you **** dumb****, you were fighting me, and aren't I blue to you ? You're blue to me !!!

Much LOLzing ensued, I actually cracked up continually thinking about it for the rest of the day. No real diplomatic incident ensued, hahahaha : I was happy with the loss, he was happy with the win. Win win ??

Now you understand why the Russian probably went wtf when I addressed him in local to tell him gf, and why the blue talked in the third person when I asked him for help, thinking I was addressing the Russian.
Comedy gold, but maybe you had to be there ;)

That's one of my many potential tales of fail, but die and learn, right ?
It's the funniest one 'though.

The lesson : read a target's name on overview before shooting...

TL/DR : Mistook a blue for a russian, asked the blue for help, GFed the Russian, docked in pod to realize my mistake to much lolz.

Cheers !

Not really a piracy fail but fail nonetheless so here goes:

About one and a half years ago
Doing anomalies in my trusty t1 fitted cane. Quite drunk. as in, I seem to have two canes.
Red enters local (begins with suit, ends with onia)and this results in much excited yelling in teamspeak as we were still a pvp corp. now only to find the bugger.
I'm drunk and know it and pvp while drunk <> a good idea as this thread proves. So i keep ratting merrily while corpies gang up and start running belts trying to find this courageous person who dares to invade our lowsec home system.
Suddenly an extra rat spawns. Bit of a weird icon but hey, red=rat right? Hmm this one seems to do quite a bit of damage, best get out. Hey he also scrambles, wtf? ugh, this sucks, I should have gone pvping instead.

tl;dr: being so drunk that you can't distinguish between rats and pirates and forget to call yer bloodthirsty mates who are all in pvp ships is a bad idea.

Have Smack, Will fail...

I'm bored ****less spinning in station, I'm a carebear so it's highsec.

Just chatting to the guys on vent, and we start discussing my capabilities to **** people off.
I'm a sore loser so I claim to just smack in Eystur local until I get a fight, pick a random guy who asks something in local.

Target recognized.

I start smacking and he replies, "ha I've got game!".
a third guy comes in the convo, "cant you guys fight and get it over with"

"naah the chicken doesn't dare!"

Chicken did dare, however I was in a cane he was in a hawk..

"guys! he just undocked in a hawk, this'll be so easy!"

he wants to do it at a planet

"ha! sucker wont be able to dock after being ****d to bits!"
-vent guys- "lololol I wanna see this!"

Me and the hawk agree to each toss out a can, that way no bull**** about whos corpies are able to help, it's a clean almost fair fight!

Hawkman jettisons his entire stack of ammo!
"OMGOMGOMGOMG! LOL! this douche just tossed out his entire stack of ammo!"

-hawk- "erm could I have those back...?"

"yeah sure no probs, happens to the best of us"

"lo lthis is going to be so easy"
"should I ransom?"
"lol"
I was dominating the sound on TS for 5 minutes, allready gloating

I was red to him, just waiting for him to take my can.
He approaches my can

"He's so close! HAHAHAHAHAHA This'll be hilarious!"

I get the lil marker, unload everything I have on him, some mssg pops up.
"omfg CCP wtf is it with these are you sure mssgs!? ofc I'm sure I wanna lay waste to this ****er! shoot allready!"

He says "STOP!"

AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
... oh wait...
thats a yellow marker?

Iím terrible at this game.† And the wine doesnít help.† In this particular case though, while I was heartily enjoying a bottle of shiraz, no amount of wine can excuse my flailing, spastic incompetence.† The quantity required would leave me unconscious or dead.† I just have to accept the dumb.

Iím hauling stuff in NPC 0.0 with a blockade runner, bomber is scout.† I regularly look for down towers, but rarely have any success.† Iíve failed swiping an unanchoring tower twice, never successfully stolen one (I told you I was terrible).† I pull into my destination system, scan one last time and.. low and behold, towers Ė force fields > 0!† Scan tower down, find a small unanchoring with 10min to go!† As a terribad thief, this is very, very exciting to me.† Sure, it isnít much isk, but itís the principal or something.† I drop off my goods, go back and get setup at the tower.† I even have time to refill my glassÖ

Time ticks down, no one there but an empty shuttle.† As I mentioned, Iím awful.† So I donít even know why people seem to† do this, leaving shuttles or noobships hanging empty at an unachoring tower.† Iíve seen it before.† Is it just something tempting (??) that someone might pop and then you know it has been visited if you arenít hanging out there?† Or is it just the random junk you donít feel like picking back up?† The only reason I question it is in the 3 towers Iíve found getting pulled down, all 3 have had a single noobship or shuttle at them.† I donít know, I assume the later, that it is junk.† If there is some reason, maybe someone can explain with very small words.

Seconds left, I roll my BR towards the tower (and a celestial ahead of me) so that I uncloak as it comes out, I can scoop and warp off.† Iím so clever.

The timing is perfect.† But sadly, Iím dumb and drunk.† Iím not used to scooping towers.† I forgot you just right click on it and pick the ďscoopĒ option.† Such complexity.† However, I *am* used to scooping drones.† My new laptop is full HD, yet the screen isnít gigantic.† In my now toddler-like level of excitement, I hit a button that sort of looks like the scoop drone button?† Maybe?† Is that what I need to hit?† Oh wait, thatís eject.† Wait, what did I have selected? Too late.† As this occurs, the rorqual sitting there cloaked, uncloaks.† Iíve just ejected out of my transport, an empty transport, next to a rorq. ††I must act quickly.† I want to get my bomber on the rorq on the off chance it is fit with.. well, nothing and no drones I guess.† In my extreme panic and now near-pants-peeing giddiness, I somehow had clicked on the shuttle in the overview.† I board it.† Now I have a timer to wait out get back on the transport.

The rorq jumps away.† Iím certain the second he saw someone on the overview, he popped his cyno alt and jumped before watching any of this unfold.† HoweverÖ I donít discount the possibility that my short bus uncloaking (heh, viator even kind of looks like a short bus), me falling out of it in Corky-esque fashion and then leaping on nearby unused bicycle frightened him so much he fled, not wanting to see the end results of these innovative tactics.

I wait out my timer of shame, eject, re-board, scoop tower and decide that, just maybe, I need to go to bed.† As I switch to the bomber scout, my fishlike retention once again takes hold and I pop the shuttle out of spite (spite at what, my own dumb?† I donít know at this point.).† I am surprised when I get a kill showing Iíve toasted my own alt.† Complete failure is complete.

I've got 2 stories today. Neither resulted in my death, but they're pretty funny.

So, I've recently been trying my hand at piracy using a harpy. Have had some success, but not a whole lot. So I jump into this nice low-sec system. One person in local. Lo and behold, I see a Badger Mk II warping off to the next gate in front of me.

A hilariously undefended industrial in low-sec cannot go unpunished, who knows what juicy loot is in its hold? So I warp off to the gate it was heading towards. Even better, the moron is 15km off. Auto-piloting noob.

So I lock this clearly idiotic Badger. I warp jam him, and start unloading bullets and missiles into his shields. Then the gate guns fire. "WTF?" I say, only to realize I've got about half my shields left.

I immediately spam the warp to zero button on the closest planet, and manage to get away. However, I have 90% of my structure gone. On fire, and not able to leave the station-less system for 15 minutes, I prepare myself for a long conversation with my corpmates.

Speaking of corpmates, next story. After reducing my sec status to beyond -2.5, and wanting to be able to move about hi-sec to catch war targets, I decide to scan down mission runners, TP their enemies, and ninja salvage/loot their wrecks. Not a whole lot they can do to a tanked drake, and most mission runners are cowards anyways.

So I spend some time scanning. A bit new to this, I end up scanning a ship down after about 5 or 6 minutes. A Rattlesnake. I warp to zero, and find myself sitting at a station... Mad

So I go back to scanning. This time away from stations. A few minutes later, I find a raven on scan YARRRR!! Even better, his drones are out! I immediately warp to zero. Deadspace, but it could be worse. I get into the first room, he's not there, so I start salvaging and looting wrecks while moving to the next gate. Drones, but again, it could be worse.

So I get to the next room. Not really paying attention (its 1 a.m over here) I lock closest and largest drone, TP it, and start salvaging and looting nearby wrecks. Then I take a look at my corporate chat. It seems that the raven I found, was my corpmates. Ah, nothing better than corpmate ninja salvage tears YARRRR!!

Couple of years back was camping a gate in a gang in hi-sec lost 3 crows in the space of about 20 minutes....

Had my overview sorted by name but made the numptie mistake of having the wrong overview settings and still had gates in there. Spotted a target and as I clicked the name someone else jumped in and I targetted the gate....target, fire, boom I'm in my pod.

Docked in station and bought new crow and fittings, undock, boom I'm in my pod - forgot the agression timer

Redocked, another new crow and fittings....waited for timer....back to gate to camp....gate no longer in overview and overview filtered for targets only. Orbiting gate and new target arrives go to click target with launchers already flashing, miss target with mouse and click gate.....target, fire, boom back in my pod again

Logged off and cried into a few bottles of hoegaarden for the rest of the evening
