Every night there is 20,000 disconnects when EVE drops off. Surely we can do something better to minimize this disruption.

I know the CPP lords say they need down time. Lets assume they need down time

However this doesn’t solve game play issues.

Like:
Mission loot disappears (even if DT is only 10mins)
Mission resets even if 99% complete
Worm Holes / Anomalies de-spawn events seems to sync with DT

Ideally lets make down time disappear. However I would settle for a longer (2 hours) but only 2 nights a week. There has to be ways to improve the lives of 20,000+ people * 7 days a week.

What are your down time annoyances that spoil the game play ?

What can we do to make the annoyance of down time go away?

Downtime for me is Between 13:00-14:00. Forces me to take a "lunch" break on weekends, and since I am at work doesn't bother me during the week. It is fine the way it is IMO.

Yes there is 20k disconnects, but that is because they stay connected in the 1st place. I have done it a few times myself. Dock -> Go AFK. Don't really see what you are complaining about.

Take the following scnearios.

Its 60mins before DT. Its the only time you get on after work before before bed.
You cant start a Level 4.
Cos it will repswawn
Cos you will lose you bonus time - even though eve's not accessable

Fair ?

Its 2 hours before DT
You start a level 4 mission. Should take 90mins plus 20mins of salvaging.
You get distracted (eg wife nah/agro) and you loose 30mins

Say you get the mission done but cant salvage because dt comes.
You have lost your salvage - that could be worth 5-30M because of DT - how is that fare ?

90 minutes for a level 4? Maybe you should stop using a FoF drake.

Who cares if you lose the bonus payment? You can finish the mission and kill all the rats again, aka extra bounties. Missions aren't everything in eve, and ccp isn't going to go out of it's way to please some of the most dull players in this game.

wrecks dont despawn on downtime, just because it is downtime. they despawn during server crashes or because the timer ran out.

Downtime is pretty much required. With Tranquility being one single cluster operating at peak performance nearly all the time it needs some time for maintenance and clean up so it won't impact normal game play. You can read more about it on this Evelopedia article

This isnt about making DT go away; I understand DT is a necessary evil.

I would just like some of the disadvantages that it causes (such as loss of mission loot, respawning of missions, the continuation of mission bonus mission timers, etc) to be addressed. These things do cause dis-advantage to players who sit in the wrong TZ.

It may not matter much to people who are rearly impacted or those with the freedom to play for extended periods. For those with limited, more constrained time who of where we are dis-advantaged.

Some of the things I have mentioned may be fixable with a little effort
Eg
Save loot at shutdown and re-spawn at start up
Suspend mission bonus time counter during the dt

Or a compromise may be possible for some.
eg: At each stage of mission completion we internally flag the mission
stage as complete - that way you dont have to re-do it again.

I love EVE and I do spruke it to my RL Austrlian Friends; however lots find DT at 9PM/10PM (depending daylight saving) a raw deal; lets try to make a bit better.

Funny to read the answers. Most of them did not even read the first post.

But actually it is odd to see that most forum users here are somehow brainless.

This is because most forum users here are hiding under a security blanket that if any idea here was actualy accepted would be partialy pulled off and hence they might have to learn to do something a new way, hence i know grade how well my ideas are doing buy the amount of posters who take the time to post a " U IS STUPID" post but fail to provide any info as to why and then defened there answer with another "U IS STUPID CAUSE I SAYS SO" when i ask there intelegents level, which is not that much most of the time

The annoyance for me is that a lot of resources are most plentiful immediately after DT, and the players whose timezones are conducive to playing at that time are benefiting from it while I and others cannot. It can interrupt ops, as well, but since it's so perfectly predictable, it's a simple matter to plan around DT and avoid that sort of trouble. I also don't like that characters who leave my corp leave their vestigial faces in corp chat until DT.

The annoyance can be reduced by implementing more dynamic content generation that'll lead to sites appearing in real-time, making it less likely that I'll be faced with barren systems when I get online and launch my probes. But even that's not such a big deal, since there's more than enough content to go around, we latecomers just have to come up with a better system for finding it.

I really don't have a beef with DT, I think it's perfectly manageable. The biggest problem it causes for me is all the whining people do about it. Unscheduled downtime, of course bothers the heck out of me, since there's no systematic way to mitigate its effect on play.

Edit: And mchief, it's not that u is stupid, it's that many of u ideas is stupid.

If the DT is convenient for you or doesn't cause disruption then whoopie for you, however your level of misunderstanding 'is delicious' and you need to consider it from the point of view of other timezones.

IMO as a software professional the daily DT is a sign of serious failing in the system and should have been addressed long ago. Down times are useful and scheduled down times reduce disruption, but a daily DT is too much. I personally know players that have left due to DT disruption. Oblivious trolls should consider what their life would be like if they no longer had an audience Rolling Eyes

Respawning of missions is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Yes, you lose the fast completion bonus, but you get extra bounties and the chance to mine out any ore that you want.

This, however, is an excellent idea.

yes but if you only get 1 hour of good game play a work night (8-9PM cos down time is 9PM-10ish) Then I may never get to complete the mission.. Ie I have to put it off til the weekend to do this. It becomes so much a pain in the arse I will avoid accepting a mission Monday to Thursday - because I know that I will get stuck with it.

I am not expecting the devs to solve my Real/EVE life problems. I am just trying get things balanced so those that do play right until DT are not serverly disadvanted when the servers come back.

You your correct you do get bounties again. But not all mission have bounties (rouge drones, other faction missions).
