Hi,

Is battleclinic down for you guys too? I've been in an urge need to check something out, but it's been down all day for me. I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong on my end.

Thanks!

We have experienced a hard drive failure on the main database server. The hosting provider is trying to determine which drive in the raid array has failed, and it's taking some time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I read that as: the inept monkey working for the ISP pulled the wrong drive out of our N+1 array and are now stalling for time while they try desperately to find a "fix".

Can't figure out why, loadouts section and a killboard section that doesn't make your eyes bleed like griefwatch.

I've never figured out why there is so much hate for BC either. It helped me out a lot when I was fresh to the game by allowing me to quickly search for other pilots fits.

The submitted fits are ok and I have to admit many of my current fits started out based off fits I saw on BC or KM's from there. Granted there are a crap load of really horrible fits but overall IMO EVE needs a site like that to help newer players.

I will admit though that having to log in to view the KM's is a bit annoying, specially when the in-game browser doesn't remember PW's.

Thats why he said they use that, because if a HDD failed in a RAID-5 or RAID-1, it wouldn't cause the system to crash. :)

Well, fwiw, I'll tell you why I don't like it - it's not the site, it's the users. So much of the loadout section, especially for the bigger or more exotic ships, is along the lines of "I've never flown an Archon, or been in a fleet with an Archon, or actually seen an Archon, but my mate's brother saw one once on Singularity and it looked really cool. Anyway this is my first capital build, what I'm training for by the end of the year" and you wonder what he plans on doing with the tractor beam.

Then 30 other muppets who are still struggling to figure out where to put the lasers on their Drake chime in with "733t fitz +1!!!" and it goes to the top of the charts.

So, on average, I like scrapheap challenge a bit more.

Indeed, it was sarcasm, I'm a server support analyst.

I guess someone setup their raid and didn't know what he/she was doing (It happends more then you think) or 2 disks crashed, and by the looks of the duration there is no backup, or someone is slacking really hard. Laughing

I'll be updating over at out-of-pod, but though the folks here might like it first.

Update 24.3.10

Our vendor took 9 hours to diagnose the problem. Essentially, the drive head of the main database server on the primary drive apparently malfunctioned, which caused a loss of sectors around where the email server software sits, and in the MFT. The HDD struggled on and wrote the corruption to the mirror drive. This is why RAID-0 is fault tolerant but not a substitute for a backup.

The original plan before we found that the OS was corrupt was to replace the faulty drive, let the RAID array write the mirrored data back to the good drive, then swap again and let the new drive write to the brand-new secondary. The OS corruption prevented this and left us with two choices:

Choice 1: Install 2 new drives, wipe the server, and reinstall / restore. Downtime: 48 hours from today.
Choice 2: Order a new server, move DNS, clean install on a much more powerful server, basically make lemonade from these lemons. Downtime expected: 12-24 hours from now.

We're going with #2.

We really appreciate everyones patience as we work through this very difficult time.

killboards are very.. iffy, considering that there are some jerks that think it's cool to post SiSi kills on battleclinic and due to "lack of manpower", noon ever deletes those kills.

QFMFT.. The site its self is actually very nice and the only gripe I have with it is that you have to log on to do 90% of the useful stuff.

I use the fit out section when im feeling down and need a good giggle.

Yes we agree those ppl are jerks.

However, this is such a minor thing as to be nearly irrelevant to the overall statistics. And perhaps you forget that every other killboard is subject to the same inaccuracy, even the api-only ones, which can be "gamed."

Incorrect. We have a team of mods who regularly reviews disputed kills and deletes where appropriate. They're all volunteers -- nobody gets paid for running BattleClinic -- so if you would like to become part of the solution, volunteer as a mod and you can help us respond to disputes.
