I'd like to hear from you, the denizens of the EVE Online forums, about your most exhilarating, exciting and/or downright soil-yourself scary moments in this game.

I haven't had many - I think the first was way back when I was doing L2 missions and I accidentally fired on Kruul in Damsel and got the entire spawn Embarassed - but I did have one recently, where I was scouting for a corpmate as we legged it from nullsec to highsec. It was only four or five jumps, so we thought we'd be alright since the systems on the way had been quiet recently. Got through the first two systems without incident, when suddenly local starts spiking in the third system. We double-timed it towards highsec, and I remember jumping through the last gate to highsec right as someone warped in behind me. Better luck next time mate. Very Happy

I'm sure there are better stories than that out there, and I want to hear them!

You sound like a sissy. Turn around, gang up, they'll never expect it. Then strike home a killing blow or ten amidst the confusion. YARRRR!!

Oh yes, me in my Anathema turn around and fight, with no guns or anything, and 30 jumps away from the nearest friendlies. That sounds like a great idea.

Presumably you've never heard the phrase "discretion is the better part of valour"? Were circumstances different I would've considered such a strategy, but alas my position was disadvantageous to fighting back, so the only option available was point my bow at the nearest highsec and run like Satan's after you.

this was a couple days ago, but i almost lost my 2 bil isk fit kronos in a mission, Stop the thief i believe. I forgot to pre-align out when you kill the trigger and that second group spawned right on top of me, webbed and scrammed in 5 seconds. I released my hobs, aligned to station and overloaded both my highs and lows. I came out of it with 30% structure.

sometimes missioning with a marauder can make a person really lazy.

obv. this is an alt.

Myself and a few corpmates were playing cat and mouse with a couple of enemy targets.

An Eos was on one side of the gate with a corpmate, I was on this side in my Huginn waiting to get the tackle when he jumped through. I got the signal that he had jumped, my corpmate jumped a second later, and a blinking red BS warps to the gate. The rest of our corp were on the other side of the system in big, slow ships, and it was a big system with a long warp.

I glance over at the overview and see that the BS that just landed was a Nightmare. It jumps, I call out the target and jump just as the Eos decloaks. I know my corpmate won't be able to help me for at least thirty seconds, if the Eos doesn't go after him and delay backup even further.

On the other side of the gate I burn for the gate and the nightmare decloaks 10km away. I immediately lock on, scram and web (back when webs had some worth), then just hang on biting my tongue. There are four other hostiles somewhere in this system. I call out the nightmare is tackled and start plinking away at it with my arties while it takes a few seconds and then begins sizzling at my shields.

I'm watching them melt with alarming speed but keep on the 'mare.

My closest mate lets the Eos escape and comes back through. By then I've only got a sliver of shield. He decloaks and puts a point on but he has no web, so i have to keep the sucker pinned down as my armor starts melting. Then the rest of my mates jump in. I had hardly scratched the mare, but with 3 bs, a HAC, and my Huginn he starts to melt with satisfactory haste.

By now I'm down nearly into hull so I turn and leg it toward a distant planet, holding my web as long as I can. Then more reds start showing up, all in BC or BS. We hold on the 'mare, it's shields gone and armor failing by monster bites, then it's into hull. I've got red boxes from the newly arrived hostiles but I'm at 35km, I can hold the web for another 5km, but my hull is vanishing rapidly.

At the last second the mare goes boom and I hit warp, burning like a pyre. I come out of warp at the distant planet with 7 hull points (total: 7 hull!) and a burning corpmate arrives a moment later in his dominix. We align for a station and a red interceptor drops out at 50km and makes a burn for us. I light it up and open my arties. It gets to 40km and comes to a dead stop but more are dropping out on his heels. The dominix warps and the interceptor pops under my arty salvo so I get the hell out of there, bouncing off of two stations before I am granted docking clearance.

In the end we lost nothing, one of the BS pilots managed to scoop some phat lewt from the wreck before warping, but trying to hold that 'mare down for 40 seconds under withering MPL fire was a true nailbiter for me; I was flying something I could not afford to replace (back when Huginn were nearly 150m a pop).

On another occasion, 0.0 fighting, I had a bait tanked typhoon. The battle was evenly matched through most of the engagement but our side was slowly being whittled down. After a time I look up and realize... I am the only blue on the field! The hostiles are all a considerable distance away save for a Cerberus 15km away. I had sicked a flight of heavy ECM drones on him and, just my luck, they kept him inert and I was able to warp off the field alive. Not the tightest of nail biters, but a surprise in the end that I was able to get that abysmally slow monstrosity safely off the field of battle alive sacrificing only a handful of ECM drones.

I undocked in 0.0 at our home station. Of course the idiots on the intel channel had failed to mention that PL was pulling a login trap, so I'm suddenly scrambled by a solo Proteus. I know my Phobos can tank it, so I start shooting back.

Then, twenty other guys in T3's and battleships warp in. And I stop firing, try to deactivate my bubble, pump a ton of boosters into my system, and just manage to deaggress and dock with 1/3 structure, almost all my module fried, and no cap.

Best PvP experience I ever had.

The good kind - using an 8 month planted spy alt, going "haha, wouldn't it be cool if this actually work--OMG HE TOOK THE BAIT ROFL"

The bad kind - using a 12 month planted spy alt, going "this better work, goddamnit, this better work--OH GOD NOT GOING TO PLAN IMPROVISE IMPROVISE"

Aside from those, the sort of fights needed to get my jollies off have been escalating ever since I started playing. And you know it really really sucks when you start yawning out of boredom during capital slugfests.
