Heavy Risk...

My favourite T1 Frigate, it's just a beast of a tank. I've always flown it with ACs and active tank, but recently I'm questioning my standard fits for it, which are:

[Punisher, 200 Plated AC]
Small Armor Repairer II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Damage Control II
200mm Reinforced Steel Plates I

Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

E5 Prototype Energy Vampire
200mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S
200mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S
200mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S

Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I

Obviously, can put a Trimark for less cap and put in T2 as needed, but I didn't wanna waste training for T2 small ACs.

[Punisher, 400 Plated AC]
Damage Control II
Small Armor Repairer II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
400mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I

J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters

125mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S
125mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S
125mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon, EMP S
E5 Prototype Energy Vampire

Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Ancillary Current Router I

Now, I've seen pulses on it, but I threw that concept out as it doesn't have a damage bonus to lasers, so why waste cap? But, lasers have a lot better range and I'm rethinking them because of the Punisher's supreme lack of range control.

Beside that, I've seen a neut instead of the nos, and then fit a Gyro/Heat Sink instead of the repper. This seems great for other Frigates as you can end up with 8-9k EHP, and can basically destroy their cap with the neut and do more DPS than the bleeder Punisher.

What do you guys think of these alternative ideas considering opponents will be mostly Interceptors, other Frigates and the occasional Cruiser, all solo?

I lost 4 1v1 frig fights in a row to this, just manage the heat.

[Punisher, Bleeder]
Damage Control II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Energized Adaptive Nano Plating II
Coreli C-type Small Armor Repairer

1mn AB II
2 pt scram

Small Nos II
3 x 150mm AC II

Small projectile collision accelerator
Small projectile burst aerator

Your resists combined with the extra umph on the overheated repper should be tough to break dps-wise in a frig fight.

Thanks Rapkin! Wink

Yeah looks good, also, training for t2 small (and medium) projectiles is not a waste. It opens up easy access to rifters, ruptures and hurricanes.

Those fits work.

You can adapt the 200/SAR fit to lasers if you like. Or blasters.

Punisher isnt good frig, trust me - its low speed and 2 mids will kill it most of the time. Tanking isnt role in pvp and ESPECIALLY NOT in frig pvp.

Not that it "cant work" - but most of the time it wont.

E: and forget blaster lol.

Well considering the two most popular frigs in RvB are Rifters and Punishers I would say the Punisher is pretty damn good.

This is not really a surprise given that:

1) The Rifter is the only good T1 frigate, and something has to take second place. The Punisher just happens to be slightly less bad than the rest of the competition.

2) This is RvB we're talking about, which means an obsessive refusal to fly good ships because it "wouldn't be fair". In real PvP, without all the artificial rules of RvB, the Punisher is trash.

You die. Your AB failfit can't catch an interceptor, which means even if you somehow manage to keep one from kiting you and killing you, you won't be able to keep it from warping away.

other Frigates

If you run into another AB failfit, you might win.

You die. Your AB failfit is too slow to keep transversal above zero, which means you get kited and ganked by overwhelming dps. That is, if you don't get killed by the neuts and Warrior IIs first. And even if you somehow manage to avoid dying, if the cruiser has any active tank at all you're better off smacktalking it to death than wasting ammo trying to shoot it.
