After watching that gdc interview with nathan I'm starting to think icelands financial woes have hit ccp a bit harder than they are admiting. Not hard enough to kill eve but maybe hard enough to make them cut back on all current development projects and so take the "oh sorry marketing will kill me if I told you any real info past yes we are making a game and it will be zomgawesome promise!!111".

considering most of ccp's infrastructure ie: singularity, tranquility & serenity(chinese server)are based outside of iceland, i doubt iceland's current financial woes will have any great effect on ccp's financial state. Besides i bet ccp got wise to the collapse of iceland's economy and moved their accounting department out of iceland. The Euro & US Dollar might be recovering somewhat but ISK (Icelandic Kronur) is worthless
1.00 USD = 125.640 ISK according to XE Currency Converter

Im thinking it is, ccp hasn't produced much about it really. For example...

1. How will it integrate with eve?
-demonstrated at last years Fanfest

2. What consoles will it support?
-c'mon, really? PS3 and X360, you really think its going to be an exclusive title?

3. Will it have 60 dollar intro pricing?
-Free to play with microtransactions. Again, common knowledge.

4. How will it affect the eve universe gameplay wise?
-who knows? How has Dominion affected the Eve Universe? Surprise! More likely that will have farther-reaching, longer lasting ramifications than Dust ever will.

Im sure its in dev, but its probably like ambulation and atmo flightSad

Terrible post.

I agree with the OP.

Dust 541 has all the trappings of Germany's 1944 Ardennes Offensive.

I see it this way:
CCP = "WWII German political leadership". Desperately trying to stave off defeat at the hands of the Allies, throwing their last precious military resources into a fools errand, a rash throw of the dice.

Result: Offensive stalled in the snow, defeat, disaster and rapid collapse in 1945.

CCP should learn from history and stick to what they are good at....Eve.

Well, apparently at least 6 million people strongly disagree with you:

"According to the NPD Group, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.2 million units for the Xbox 360 and 1.87 million units for the PlayStation 3 in the U.S. during the month of November 2009." ( wiki )

I actually prefer console FPS, I'm much better at it. Sure back in the days of doom & duke nukem keyboard and mouse was fantastic, you could strafe and your targeting reticukle was always dead center so it was just a matter of moving your target into view.

Nowadays with free motion FPS I'll take my dual analog controller over a kb/m anyday.

Dual Joysticks are mush easier for me then keyboard and mouse, though if you like having to press a key to move forward thats your ****, micromovements are easier with a joystick

I don't know anyone that enjoys playing FPS in consoles because it just blows, everyone I know now, and I knew in the past hated it.
Before I found EVE I was a FPS player so I know what Im talking about, played so many FPS games (clans and ****) in consoles and computers, consoles is ok for crap games like unreal tournament where you don't need much aiming skills, its more like doing random jumping **** and fire missiles, and when you master the aiming in those games you are godlike, still I would totally own any pro who would want a confrontation, my computer versus console.

All these questions were answered at Fanfest, and are freely available in video form to be watched.

I'd answer them for you, or point you to a link but frankly if you're going to be enough of a lazy mong to post a whine like this without even bothering to get your facts straight then it's not worth it.

It would be awesome is Dust was essentially PlanetSide with BF2/2142 style control.

The only thing I want from DUST, is planetary bombardment. Twisted Evil

Imagine your typical console 8yo FPS fanboi. Pwning newbs, tea bagging left and right, only to look up and see a fleet of dreads in low orbit, about to start raining down holy cleansing fire!Laughing

Would love to see that emo rage. C'mon CCP! Make Citadel torps able to survive re-entry! We wanna nukem!

They've also got 3 different projects running now, which was a bit overzealous of them. Should have prioritized and finally completed one (Incarna) and let the money gained from increased subs fund the other two. As it is now, they've got 3 money sinks at the same time, and no real increase in revenue.

fps on console is just fail

igil
Posted - 2010.03.16 21:51:00 - [57]

FPS is typically fail, anyway... They're fun for a few months at most, usually. I want to know how DUST will affect the EVE universe 5-10 months after release when people stop playing it. Newer games will come out and people will move on; DUST will simply... sit there? How to contest a planet when there's nobody to fight for it?

It will be interesting to see how CCP handles the long-term issues inherent in both an FPS and console game. I highly doubt people will be returning to DUST when the next Xbox and PS are released. We, of course, will all still be playing EVE and wondering whatever happened to that pipe dream of contesting planetary control.

No, what will be interesting is if releasing a bunch of new content every six months maintains, possibly for the first time in a console FPS, a loyal following... as opposed to players simply waiting for the next interation of their favorite game to be released and being forced to buy it all over again.

There's plenty of individual FPS games which maintain a loyal following for years, but there's also companies that churn out FPS games almost monthly because there's many kids and college students who'll buy any new FPS they see. You can't really blame those companies for taking advantage of them.
