Firstly - I know that similar ideas have been proposed before.

But how difficult would it be to have mission runners pitted against one another, 1v1 style? Got a couple of ideas -

Example 1 - A Gallente pilot and a Caldari pilot both receive a mission at roughly the same time, indicating that they have to kill one another. The enemy pilot is chosen at random from a pool of viable players (preferably of an opposing faction) who requested a mission within say, the last 5 seconds. They have a certain time period (perhaps no different to current mission timers) to find one another. The enemy pilot is tagged for the duration. The situation should not be one-sided (BS vs hauler for example) as both pilots would have to agree to the mission, therefore they would both be aware they are a target. Only the mission runners themselves can participate in the battle, not fleet members. There would be no restriction to ship types that can be used, barring of course, normal hisec ship restrictions. You just have to kill the other player.

Example 2 - Have an object that needs to be protected (a GSC or something like that) - One pilot is told to defend that object, another pilot is given the task of retrieving it's contents. The object would not be accessible until the defending pilot is removed. Similar to the way the synchronised scramblers work for acceleration gates in current missions. Nice and simple, but it could be very effective at getting some good hisec combat.

-----------------

The rewards should be fairly significant, after all, it could be a tough mission. The difficulty here would be how to equally match up pilots, if that would even happen at all. The loser of the fight would fail his mission and potentially lose his ship.

I prefer the second idea myself, as there might be too much fluffing around with the first idea.

Factional warfare is intended to provide this kind of experience, it's not exactly what you describe but it mostly is...

The problem with FW is that it tends to be confined to lowsec, and therefore very susceptible to pirate attacks, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but there is really no equivalent hisec pvp mechanism, barring a mutually agreed wardec.

Besides, missions need a bit of a boost, it would be nice to have something like this.

Wardecc someone, there you got your mutually agreed wardecc (since playing EVE is agreeing to all kinds of PVP)

Whats wrong with having this type of mission though? It would only add to the pvp experience. It certainly is not going to detract from current lowsec/nullsec gang warfare. Don't people want more pvp?

Go kill everyone on the opposite faction. That's your mission from me

Understood ?

And how would you propose to stop one of the two contender to presenti himself with the help of his alliance 500-man fleet?

Dunno, but that would be one of the stumbling blocks. It was one of the first things I thought of, but as to how it would be prevented, I would not know how to implement it. Maybe the pilots are aggroed to each other only, not fleet members, or corp members.
Maybe one guy brings RR? The mechanic could then work in a similar manner to repping a criminal.

Surely this is a feasible idea. Especially for hisec where pvp is scarce. Even this idea would not force anyone to fight - eg - 'Oh, I got another pvp mission, I will decline it this time'. There will surely be plenty of others who will take up the offer.

I like this idea and there is a way to make it work, use acceleration gates. Make it so that only the players who have the mission can pass the acceleration gate. In addition, the two players are not flagged to each other until they jump past the acceleration gate.

The reason for this is that if you just flag them to each other, nothing is preventing a second or 200 other players from remote repping one of them at the initial warp in or on a station. It needs to be a true 1v1, 2v2 or something like that to work. It should also have a target system. The can idea is good as this would work well with a gated setup.

Rewards would need to be huge, enough to fully cover the loss of a t2 fitted tier 3 BS every two missions. Travel distances would also need to be relatively short, no one likes traveling 15 jumps to run a mission. Make it 3-5 instead. This type of mission could be extended to all agent levels but would need ship restrictions similar to those in FW (ie lvl1's are t1 frigates only).

This, plus OPs 2nd idea. If said structure is not destroyed after x minutes of both players using acceleration gate, defender wins and vice versa. Have classes of missions pitted against each other, bs v bs, T2 cruiser v t2 cruiser, 2x bc v 2x bc etc etc.

I figure the best way to do it would be to have the object to defend in the current system of the defender. He can then easily get there first. If he doesn't, he will lose. The attacker would have to be no more than about 5 jumps out, as Rothgar mentioned.

At the very least, the attacker should be 2 more jumps away than the defender from the target location.

Any more thoughts/additions?
