Yes, we're adding a calendar. The above image represents about half a sprint's work, so it's essentially an early visual prototype and in no way even approaching "done". Expect it to be approximately eight times more awesome by release.

I approve of this.

This last thing is probably what you noticed first, and it's worth repeating in a more obvious way, I think: there will only be five levels of standings in the new system.

I don't get this. I skimmed the whole thing quickly, but you don't seem to give any good reasons for the change and clearly see some negatives. The number of options is an overkill in most cases, but so what? Is the number of options a performance problem? What is the clear benefit from this, that could not be achieved while maintaining more options? Some clarification would be nice to hear, since you obviously had a clear reason for doing it, but forgot to write it plainly in the devblog.

PS. I might have missed the actual reason for it. If this is the case, would you be so kind as to direct my lazy butt to the part that explains it. Razz

Awesome idea with the corp calendar and WOOT on the new contact system.. cant wait to see "EVE Gate" in action..

In response to "The question then is whether the corp member list should be globally viewable, or just viewable to corporate members." This is a no brainer, I think this should be corp only, this would provide way to much intel to enemies without having them work for it.

I think it would be best to allow the corp to decide mabye? and who it shows, may be handy for peeps like Eve uni to list their teachers ect and for corps to list diplomats and keep it out of the decriptions Cool

Another area affected by the standings change that I can see: the Fleet Finder. What changes are going to be made there?

(Personally, I think the current granularity of standings limits in Fleet Finder only causes problems, so change would be welcome)

Re: the calendar:

Time zones. How are you going to handle them, if at all? Obviously the default is GMT, but it would be nifty if, for example, in the settings menu or your account settings, you could select your local timezone and all calendar entries in your view would automagicly display in your local time. Good web-based systems can already do this (I should know, I've set it up in Drupal).

I'm in favor of the standings granularity simplification, since I generally struggle with getting the slider set to the exact -5.0 or 5.0 or whatever value I want. Maybe I'm too OCD, but there it is. And it's substantially less opaque for newer players.

As for opening up the list of corp members: as much as I have felt frustration from time to time when trying to find the members of corps that wardecced us, taking that away by making it easily attainable would take away from the fun of intel gathering and recon. I'd like to see it stay as-is, or at least make public listings an opt-in arrangements for corps. Default to keeping member lists hidden, but a CEO or director could choose to publish the list if they desire.

Well, E-UNI already has a big list of all our members and another one with our standings. :)

Of course, the structure we have means that anyone can be a teacher after a few days, so its not really that useful, but maybe an optional public list of specific members, like Diplomats, Directors, other contacts and so on. Similarly, the ability to either make some standings "public", or even see what standings other people have toward you, would be very cool, even if it only updates during downtime.

Oh, and please, please, please, please can we have the ability to set corp/alliance standings be a role?

If not as chooseable option of the corp then the member list should only be visible by corp members. But I like the idea of listing individual members pubplicly, as proposed in another post.

alliance standings override corp standings, and corp standings override personal standings.

I would like to have the option to choose if my personal standing is overwritten by corp/alliance. Maybe a CEO can do the same with corp and alliance standings respectivly.

Oh, and before I forget, having an in-game calendar is something that's been needed for so, so, long - hopefully we can also get some kind of feed to it can be integrated into something like Google Calendar so people can set notifications and so on for the 3am TCU bashing?

And a random thought on the member list thing... maybe force it to be listed publicly for any corps which initiate a wardec against another group?

As is, the only cost is the 2 or 50 million (times the number of wars), but making it public for the 'attacker' would give the 'defender' a better idea of who they were up against, while discouraging some of the less researched wardecs, while allowing mercs to get involved easier for defence purposes?

Let the corp list be like the certificates list, user allocated. If the CEO wants everyone to see who is in the corp, cool, if not.. alright. Default would be not to let anyone see.

I like the idea of changing standings to come from Alliance down, however is it possible to have multiple tags? so If I have a personal tag, I can see that as well as the Alliance or Corp tag?

Love the idea of the calendar, but please add in TZ support. Also make it similar to Outlook, many people are used to that format and will make managing events across multiple entities easier. Send an "invite" to corp x, y, and z... those that accept the invite can then see who else will be coming yadda yadda.

Edit: Spacing Fail

The question then is whether the corp member list should be globally viewable, or just viewable to corporate members. This becomes more complicated when you add EVE Gate to the picture, because if you have the same publically viewable information there as in show info, it's considerably easier to build a corp membership database by simply pulling all the pages and associating names with corporations. The info is obviously already available through the client in principle, but compiling it is a non-trivial exercise; a web version simplifies it considerably. Opinion is still divided here on whether this is a serious issue or not.

Perhaps this should just simply be viewed from the perspective as the individuals should have the right to control what is on their public profile, just the same as most social networking sites.

This could certainly make things more interesting, assuming the EVE Gate & in-game settings are in sync, by choosing to not display your employment history, etc on your public profile. Would definitely make the art of intel a bit more interesting. I also don't see why this information is currently "free". Twisted Evil

Hopefully this will allow individuals to set individual standings to alliances as well.

As someone who sets alliance/corp standings, I like that you are changing the priority on standings, but I can imagine that a lot of people won't like it. It pushes more power up to the alliance executor than they had before, on controlling individual members overviews in space. There are all kinds of reasons why members would want to suborn their corp or alliance standings related to espionage, or just personal interest.

I can also see where I'll benefit from outposts using alliance standings rather than corp, but I can imagine certain corps not liking that as well (probably the ones with outposts).

Anyway, hopefully the external integration is good from the API point of view.

Station owners should be able to use "use alliance standings" for default station settings.
As an NRDS entity, vast majority of reds can simply dock up in our stations because the corporations do not have enough standing slots.

Also, we need ability of alliance to set standings to an individual.

Adding +0.01 or +1 or +2.5 would be nice for something like "I want you off my overview, but don't care for anything else".

Compiling a member list of a target corporation is one of the most important intel tasks for non-0.0 warfare. Making the list publically viewable in any way would both make this intel-gathering task useless (I like it that the game does not make it easy!), as well as make war decs on corporations much more effective: You can trivially get a list of all members, add them to your watch list, and run locator traces on the ones who are online.

So, please, no public member list in any way.

Other than that: Awesome! Thank you!

1) I hope you can link the skill queue directly into the calendar. Yes, the queue does say when your current queue finishes, but an auto-updating tracker would be very, very useful. (But then, you probably already know that).

2) Why not allow a few more levels of granularity in standing for corporate and aliance level standings? I definitely don't need more than 5 as one player, but a corp or alliance would benefit greatly by having a bigger range (ie -10, -9, -8... +9, +10).

The lack of granularity may be a mistake. At minimum I think there should be one more level.

The proposed five level system is -10 (we hate you forever), -5 (We hate you lots), 0 (who are you), +5 (we like you enough to let you dock), +10 (we love you long time).

What is missing is a +2.5 - We like you enough not to shoot you, but that's it. This will be even more significant if the already proposed treaty system, described pre Dominion, is created.

+10 is a lot of trust in a game where "trust no one" is a common thought. Eve security already lacks granularity and it creates a lot of headaches. Don't make it even worse.

"The question then is whether the corp member list should be globally viewable, or just viewable to corporate members".

Simple solution: Player choice - button switch to publicly viewable or restricted (like certs) modifiable by CEO, Directors and Communications roles.

Harder solution: Player choice with restrictions based upon standings (reds cant se, blues can etc).
