Test: 2010-09-16 @ 20:00 UTC

Machine Info

OS: Windows 7 64bit
CPU: Intel E8400 @ 3GHz
GPU: AMD/ATI HD4850
RAM: 4GB

User Experience

Audio: Yes, including fleet chat
Brackets: Off for the most part, but turning them on made no difference to FPS after initial loading finished (no fighting at that time though)
Average FPS: 8 when fully zoomed in, 40-60 (VSync limited) when zoomed out
Desyncs: None that I noticed.
Comparison: N/A, never been to such a large fight on TQ.

My overview doubled once (everything displayed twice), while on route to the test (6-7 jumps out, MassMoveMe channel wasn't working prolly because I was 30 minutes lateRolling Eyes). Hiding/Showing the overview window (TAB pressed twice) fixed it. OV doubling did not happen again after that for me.

Jumping with button-spamming was a huge lagfest, ending in my client becoming unresponsive: No buttons worked, chat seemed to have stopped (could see my own messages, but not the others -- at least I assume that ppl were still talking as much as they had before). After relog I was at the other side of the gate.

Jumping without button spamming was quite okay, I got the traffic control telling me to wait for 2 minute something, then the traffic control thingy expired. A short time after that (30 seconds or so) I did jump, although I had not pressed the button again. The grid loaded while I was still cloaked, so pretty fast. First thing I saw were the capitals, the other ships were popping up after them (a ressource loading mechanism hard at work?).

Fighting was extremly module-laggy, modules took ages to activate (3 minutes and more). Deactivating by left-clicking on the little symbol next to the target was pretty fast (one ot two cycles max), using the UI-Buttons or F1-F8 did not work at all, or only minutes later. Deactivating local modules (cap booster, etc) took not quite as long, but could not be speeded up by the target icons trick, obviously.
Moving during the fight was not very laggy (a few seconds delay at most), the user interface (overview etc) did work okay.

Forgot to mention: The mass-killing at the end just made my ship go "I'm outta control" and not reacting to move orders, but did not put me to a pod for more than 10 minutes. During that time, my shields were regenerating and modules started to go offline and vanish from the screen one at a time. Also, the ship moved sometimes -- may be it tried to keep the 25km distance I had set to CCP Veritas' ship before the smartbomb went off, or it just moved randomly, I don't know.

============================================
- The audio was turned on
- The bracket loads faster this time compare to last time I was in a fleet fight.
- I had trouble jumping into X-B system, and once I jumped in it took me about 5 min to load the grid when I landed on poitot gate in X-B.
- 2, I would not participate in a fleet fight if eve can't make major improvement on the server node.

Did you have Audio enabled? No

Did you have brackets turned on? Yes

Average FPS during the test(s): 5-30FPS running 3 clients on 2 screens on lowest setting

Did you notice any desyncs during the test? Lags in jumping, activating modules and navigating

On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ? (1=way worse, 5=same, 10=OMG this is awesome): 1 On TQ I'm also running 3 clients on 2 screens of max graphic settings without any problems

Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.
Laggy as hell. At some point a client didn't load the grid but I could navigate and spam click jump and jump to next system. Shocked about how slow my pc reacted on high gpu setting. I had about 15 client crashes.

I have 273 .lbw files in my eve folder, totalling 2.63GB Don't know if I did something wrong but it's a bit hard to upload anywhere

When the fleetfight started i laged out and dropped after 23 minutes. I was able to shoot one time, then i was unable to reactivate my guns (the cycle has run out and the guns were to be reactivated but they didnt.)

OS: Win7 64bit
CPU: Core i7
GPU: Intel HD Graphics
RAM: 8GB

Audio: on
Brackets: Showing all not in fleet
FPS: 7-12 zoomed out
desyncs: no that I noticed
TQ: no idea, not a fleet fighter

Experience:

Completed all jumps OK though with long delays. Once the jump started (jump button stopped beeping) the new system loaded in 20 seconds give or take a bit. 2 out the 4 jumps I appeared 1m K from the gate, though the first time I was auto warped back to the gate.

The fight was...interesting....started off ok, get all mods started and two targets locked. shutting mods off took 5+ minutes and I noticed that cap was not being used up by the armor reps and also the HP's were not being added.

The megadeath part.... ship dies, over 5 minutes later I am still watching ships pop as my shields recharge. Never got to my pod.

All in all a good test, shame about the idiots shooting the gates and each other. Should be perma banned from SiSi IMHO.

As i havent been in fleet engagements before, i cant compare it to TQ, grid loading and gate jumping was worse than at jita, so since it crashed for me twice during the fleet fight, i'll have to say 2

I feel that the number of ships present at the fight was too big, if you get the same amount of players to participate at the next mass test, i suggest that maybe you make it into 2 gatecamps, and not one large one for the fights at the end.

the smart bomb at the end was fun time

7 Definetely feels faster while jumping back and forth between systems
* Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.
I was running 2 accounts with the log server in the background, after about an hour the logserver crashed after it had consumed more than 600MB of memmory and after the second jump both clients started having problems and became non-responsive. The login took more time than usual while trying to reconnect and I am talking about the starting screen where you select your character not the actual grid. During the big fight none of my modules in both accounts were able to activate, moving the ship around and locking things was working properly though.

Suggestions:
(a) Have members of CCP broadcast fleet invites either in local or in the various fleets channels. Setting things up by having people asking to be invited to a fleet is a very tiresome and time consuming procedure.

(b) Boot people off the test server the momment they start doing their own thing i.e. start shooting when they are told not to do so. If that is too time consuming / hard, don't allow any locking up of targets, in the areas where the fleets are assembled.

Hard to campare this 800+ person conflict with the 100 and 200 person events I see on TQ...

•Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.
all the spam jump button jumps were really slow...
The third jump (second jump from F67E-Q into MHC-R3) yielded best interface response of the set BUT ended up with doubles of all celestials in the overview...
The last two jumps (non-spam jumps) executed in 2.5 minutes (2:21 sec Traffic Ctrl warning, Then the clearence expires and shortly after that jump happens...)

On the down side... a 1.5 hour test ended up taking 3 hours...
We need to execute the testing at a faster rate - then maybe less fooling around witht he bumping and fighting as we wait at a gate...

uhm, where zo start?

the first 4 jumps are laggy, sometimes catched in the limbus and most of the time warping to the gate, after (1-3 times session change window) jumping.
the fight was horrible, cant activate ANY modules and my drones arent start. luckly, there was a fleet warp to p1.
later on p1, the mass explosion was just a laaaaaaarge lag, unitl i restarted my client. i woke up in my pod.

here the monitor outputs:

- I had Audio enabled
- On and off depending, mostly on
- Idling at gate with 900 others: 28 - During jumps: 15 - During fights: 1 to 2
- I only got desynced once on the fourth gate jump.
- I have little experience in such enormous combat, so I cannot comment on the performance difference.
- It was mentioned in voice comms that the server used for these tests is a low-end server, my recommendation to CCP is that they use a higher end server to get more appropriate testing since it was mentioned a while back that you guys try to be preemptive about this kind of combat on TQ and setup higher end servers for the combat. If you want to prepare for the worst case scenarios in the future, I think you guys need to figure out a stronger way to get people to participate in these mass tests and use a higher end server. Since the average major fleet movement is probably over 1000, you should be testing the worst possible scenario for server load (IE, testing with more than 2000 people). Whether it be increasing the SP bonus on sisi or whatever, to get tests like these to work to TQs advantage, they need to present scenarios you may or may not encounter.

was in a Moros, Fleet X, all cynojumps took very long.

1. jump, emergency warped
2. jump, emergency warped, no grid loaded, had to relog
3. jump, emergency warped,
4. jump, emergency warped, no grid loaded, had to relog
5. jump, I think that was the one without spamming.. no emergency warp.. but loaded scene twice after arrival

Cyno into combat.. took ages to load, module lag, modules not activating, targeting worked though.
tried to enter siege an did after a looong time.. alt tabbed to do something else in between.. went back after a few to find myself in siege :) .. guns firing, but wouldn't stop, alt tabbed again .. after some time I tabbed back, tried to activate guns.. seemed to work, but still laggy
tried to deactivate/reactivate seemed to work with less lag but was still in siege at that moment, so no way to fly to the giant Doomsday.

went away to wait out the timer .. and found myself in Jita :) .. suppose I killed something after Fights end.
Anyway .. my first Cap in Highsec ..awesome!

Geforce 9400 GT
2GB Ram

Audio enabled, separate SB sound card

Ships Bracket enabled, includes drones (for awhile, removed for final afterfight)

Normal game FPS 25-30, game very playable. Away from test gates (but in system), FPS fine.
Test gate FPS dropped to 0.7 FPS at times during jump tests.

Jumped all times (with spam clicking) fine, in that game would eventually respond again.
After single click jump, lost all game control, but was still logged into chat. I read lots of chat, and could reply - but could never tell if anyone else read my comments. I appeared 1,000,000 km from that last single click jump.

When I looked up the bombers name in the game logs, I noticed that spam clicking causes endless reports of:
[ 2010.09.16 21:28:08 ] (notify) Session change already in progress.
I wonder how useful it is to have a disk log making the identical (to the second) report to a logfile. How about a little filtering for duplicate lines prior to disk log? Not for damage ofc.

BTW Shrapnel Bomb belonging to Canock hits you...more than once I hear

Considering computer is a bit underpowered, it wasn't that bad. Would never try to fight for real ofc.

Logserver wasn't running, as I was 20 minutes late getting to computer to join Mass Test.

Never made it to final CCP superbombing due to game lockup after 'single click' jump. Spam clicking at least seemed to keep my client known by game servers.

Useful for me, got to learn something about current fit Drake tank at least.

  • On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ? I'd score this as OMG 1

  • Describe your experience: The first two jumps , while we were spamming the "jump to" it took, 3 beers to get into system, the third jump I drank more beer, went fed the dogs, watered the lawn with my newly rented beer, and then..and only then was able to use my ship..barely.
Forth jump. I'm almost out of beer, so we only hit the button once. Good thing too, cause it worked much better, smoother transition. I didnt even have time to grab another beer. Nice.
but wait some one gets all uppity boss like and decides to change stuff, go to "Poitot Gate" they said.. well my ship was used ta jumping mhc.. so it made me relog.. dunno why.
refleeted quick.. sweet, boss is looking out... I'm swooping in to Poit-something gate and holy HeckWTF is going on here. I didnt fly into LAG I flew into a LOG like SOLID. cant move, cant shoot the bastage that dropped a bomb on me,
eventually after my 3 min lock stops I realise that the Nyx has got me and I'm probably a goner... ah well. open a beer.
well I'd guess sometime later,, kinda fuzzy at this point, planet 1 is where my ship went, and while I look forward to the awe inspiring explosion of immense proportions that one unnamed ccp person hit me for (19 points) I couldnt move, fly warp, shoot after... so I drank a beer.
So if you want a scale...4 not bad as there have been worse times that I actually ran out of beer.

Suggestion: Seriously, we are all there to help you make it all better. Having to say *something* more than once is too much. I cant imagine *what* you guys have to do in the background to maintain these tests and manpower, but surely there are some assistants you can use "IN FLEET" to help you curtail the children that insist on "playing poo-poo in the other tiny spaceships"...ahem... this is me getting off my soapbox... had a great time... I'll try ta be at the next.

Jumps averaged 15 minutes, way longer than the previous test. Way to reel in the volunteers! Chat text is still bunched together and overlapping, made worse when changing to large font sizes. Shooting occurred nearly 10 minutes after activating modules.

5. From what I remember, fleet fights were awful and laggy like this.

* Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.
Jumps were awful. I was disconnected on the first jump and lost patience after 10 minutes on the second one. Especially with two accounts to manage.

I hope it's gonna get better ...

I ran two clients in the test. In the battle one was in the camping fleet, the other was in the incoming fleet.

On combat camping ship had weapons shooting without targets, jumpuing to combat ship didn't manage to load grid and eventually client crashed. On final destruction both ships spent several minutes "destroyed" (structure 0%) but with shields reloading.

*On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ?
8, improved performance compared to smaller fleet fights on TQ.

Client crashed once during just waiting for jump.

Jumps averaged 15 minutes, better on the last jump without spamming. Module lag after jumping into systems about 50% of the time. Got locks on targets but missiles took 10 minutes or more to shoot. Was able to fire once.

My first time doing a mass test of this magnitude (900+ people), it made me think my laptop was going to blow out halfway through the test. About the second to last spam jump, the lag got so bad, I didn't jump until about 15 minutes after I first started spamming the jump icon. I had the same problem with lag during the final destruction at the end of the test. I was forced to restart my client in order to refresh my clone activation.

Yes, and EVE Voice.

No drone, fighter or fleet member brackets.

Zoomed all the way in, 10. All the way out 25, about halfway 20.

Did you notice any desyncs during the test?
After the grid loaded on a gate, unrecieved (unrecieved? un...soemthing? not recieved? yeah thats better) chat would flood into a channel.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you compare FPS and performance between this test and TQ? (1=way worse, 5=same, 10=OMG this is awesome)
On the scale of ultra mega huge fleet battles, I unfortunately couldn't stick around for the combat >.> but the jumps were a little bit worse than TQ, say like a 4.5

Describe your experience, make comments, suggestions, etc.
The FleetW chat channel MOTD had no information whatsoever, and the FleetX channel had everything you needed to know.

The random fights on the gates were worse than before, but, the last mass-test i was in was only about 400-500 people.

EVE Voice does bad and silly things when you relog and load a whole ton of grid at the same time. I wasn't sure if my EVE Voice had actually crashed or not, because I would hear CCP Konflict talking at random, so I don't really know how well it held up. But, before the first jump, it was perfect.

Speaking of which, the first jump was the worst for sure. Took hella long time to load everything, and the spamming of teh buttonz was fun until all fingers have been depleted. :(
Then I had to relog...and that was when EVE voice required a tissue.

Anyway, second jump went better, there were some lemmings in that one. No crashes, lag wasn't too bad. Was hoping that a titan was warp to the poitot gate though and bowl the giant blob of battleships :D

Third jump was the best. Click once, alt-tab for about seven minutes, come back, 'Hey I've loaded, awesome'
Wasn't able to stay after that though, had to be torn away from my precious eve :) I'm sure it was lagtastic and also logtastic.

i'm having issues uploading to eve files, so it'll be a bit longer before i get the logs up >.<

Took quite a bit of time to jump from one system to another, but the last jump wouldn't have been so bad if some people didn't start shooting everyone before they were suppose to. Never really got to shoot anything or even lock on to anyone.

I made sure to have logserver running. I have a link here Sept. 16th SISI testing logs (rar file).
