Hi all,
been playing for a few years now, but my laptop can no longer handle internet spaceship awesomeness.
I'm a student, so I really can't afford an amazing new desktop, so I'm looking for cheaper ones, and I found this.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370264861464&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Comes with a monitor, because I reckon it will be cheaper that way. At 400 it's on par with my budget, but I have no knowledge of actual computer science so I'm assuming this is ok with the current specs and will be ok for the future because I can upgrade the graphics etc.

Sweet., thanks

YARRRR!!

I am sorry but I will have to dissapoint you, but the system is not very good.

The 9500GT DDR2 graphics card is not a card for gamers, not even for EVE, not today, perhaps 3 years ago yes. Sure it will run the game, but you could really do so much better ...

The 9500GT DDR2 is at the same tier of performance as the 7600GT, the 8600GT and the 6800GT.

Also keep in mind that the monitor has a 1680 x 1050 resolution, which makes it even worse, for higher resolutions you need more GPU speed, and running below native resolution reduces image quality on LCD's.

I would not go below a 9600GT - HD3670 or equivalent.

You can check this chart :
Tomshardware Hierarchy chart
And this chart :
Tomshardware Benchmark chart

Then the CPU, 2200mhz is pretty low, it will impact EVE for sure, having 2800mhz on a dual core is imho the minimal this day and age ( price / performance wise ). Having a 2800mhz Core 2 Duo will make your system alot snapier and future proof.

I don't know what kind of mobo the system has, which has me worried a bit, but the intel chipset looks reasonable tho.

4GB DDR2 RAM and 500GB HD is fine.

Finally you need to add 86 to your purchase for your OS and they recommend Windows XP or Vista. That is bullcrap, Windows 7 64bit is your only real option as a gamer if you buy a new system, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I find this site and system quite amateurisch and not gamer worthy.

I hope you can find an alternative, which should not be too hard, considering this system costs 398 + 85 = 483

Ah thank you, this is exactly what I needed.
I have already have OS so this shaves some cost off for me but I will keep looking. I would never recommend to anyway to buy a Second hand PC but maybe if I find a decent one it may be my only option.

What OS do you have?

And don't be fooled, this is a NEW system for a NEW system price, it is I think also too expensive for what you get.

I can get a copy of 7 so that is all good. I wouldn't mind spending around the same amount on just a tower, but it's jsut I have no monitor which is of course 100+. I guess I can wait until another payday.

I was look on ebay and found this :
Gamerig

Now this is a pretty damn fast system, you should be able to find something slower and cheaper.

I can take another look.

edit : Haven't found anything, seems there is a gap between the above system and the one you proposed.

A toaster oven can run eve, which is i guess one of the beautys of the game, if my crappy netbook can run it, i think pretty much anything can.

Hopefully ccp multithread this thing, add AA support(decent AA) and bring it up to a par for a modern game, not 6 years ago game.

Hardware is really not the issue for EVE. My 5 year old notebook still runs EVE.

So, if it is just for EVE do not invest in hardware.

First of all, the OP's laptop is too slow, as mentioned by the OP himself, so I guess toasters won't run EVE afterall ...

Secondly if you want to max graphics settings in EVE, the 9500GT DDR2 is below the minimum, my laptop has about the same level as the 9500GT DDR2 and it drops to around 22 FPS in graphics intensive scenes, flying solo.

Thirdly the OP system is not very good price / performance.

Sure if you spin ships in station at lowest resolution, I am sure you can run it on a netbook or a 5 year old laptop.

I could run EVE on my 5 year old laptop too, staying in station, switching skills and playing the market.

Would you be willing to build yourself?

Asus H55 LGA1156 MATX DDR3 PCIe

91.09

Corsair Memory 2G DDR3 1333MHz VS DIMM
Quicklinx:679NWS | Mfr#:VS2GB1333D3
39.98

Corsair Memory 550W VX PSU
Quicklinx:4Q0TWS | Mfr#:CMPSU-550VXUK
63.22

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5750 700Mhz 512MB PCI-E 2.0 HDMI
Quicklinx:6B3PWS | Mfr#:HD-575X-YHFC
91.07

All from dabs.co.uk - price including VAT is 367.06

A case and optical drive will take you a little over the budget and still no monitor I'm afraid but that's a good build on the latest intel socket so lot's of potential for future upgrades.
