Skillsheet.

Now that the end of my 5/4 Learning skills training is almost here, I've been thinking about what I should do afterwards. I think I've made about 20 skillplans already, but I'm never happy with it. The problem is that I know what I want to end up with, but I'm not sure what to do inbetween. My endgoal for now is to fly both Minmatar and Amarr Battleships, specifically the Typhoon, Maelstrom and the Abaddon, well. My main intention is to do PvP first and later on add Wormhole operations, there is no need for any isk gathering activities as my miner alt can take care of that.

At the moment I can fly a Rifter .. reasonably well. My first thought was to add support skills so I can fly it better, so I googled around a bit and found this site which turned out to be quite good. I'll be getting all the skills listed there to IV except for targeting which will remain at III. After that I start to get some doubts.

At first I thought I should look at the recommended certificates for the Rifter and add those, but I'm not too sure if those are any actual good.

After I have those I thought I should go look for a new ship class to fly, which comes down to three real choices: Assault Ships ( Wolf & Jaguar ), Destroyer ( Thrasher ) and the Cruisers ( Rupture and perhaps the Stabber ). I honestly don't know what would be the best way to go, as either of those seem to have their pro's and cons.

I also thought about getting Interceptors, but those seemed to be glorified tacklers. Unless I read the description wrong, of course Smile.

The obvious path after either of the three mentioned above would probably be Battlecruisers, the Hurricane specifically. I would probably get the recommended certificates for all these ships as well. Next would be the Battleships and the related ceritficates.

Does this look like a good plan of action? Are the certificates a good way to go, or should I manually add skills so I don't wast SP on skills I'll never use?

Thanks in advance, and excuse and mistakes I'll probably have made. Surprised

For the most part, it's my opinion that the certificates are a decent guide, but remove skills that don't make sense.

For example, a ship might recommend certificates for armor reinforcement, which requires the passive tanking skills, which would be ridiculous to train, pretty much, if you plan to never passive tank your ship.

I start with the premise your end goal is want to fly fly both Minmatar and Amarr Battleships in PVP.

You are right to get all your support skill up first, they will be a benefit in any ship.

But then you discuss Assault Ships, Destroyer and the Cruisers. Do you want to be a competent pvp pilot in those as well? Because if not you can skip through a lot of ship training and just focus on getting the skills need for good BS pvp. For example racial Cruiser 5 is about a 30 day skill, if you want to do that for both minnie and amarr you are blocking off a lot of time. Ditto (but less so) with racial frigate 5.

Personally, I found flying frigates fun because you can cut your pvp teeth at little cost. T2 frigs are much more expensive though, so not a good platform to learn on.

Cruiser are much the same as frigates, great fun to learn on and not much more expensive. T2 cruiser are much, much more expensive (think BSes, but with crappy insurance) but also have a pretty solid pvp niche, especially small gangs.

BSes are pretty much PVE or large fleet pvp ships.

I'm not sure that is much help, but maybe it'll help you focus you short term goals.

Thanks for the responses. :)

See, that's where I'm uncertain. I love the look of the Rifter/Jaguar/Wolf, but the prices seem quite high for the place they have. I'm not sure if the Destroyers are worth it, since I've not seen any real use for them. The cruisers on the other hand seem to be a good choice for PvP while I wait for Battlecruisers to train, as they both use mostly the same skillsets. The Hurricane is one of the ships I would like to fly, so I'm definitly going to train for that.

My main focus for Amarr is the Abaddon Battleship, so I will most likely not train Amarr Cruiser and Frigate to V before I can fly BS's reasonably well. The fact that BCīs arenīt race dependend makes the choice for those alot easier as the skills are indeed the same as for Cruisers like I said before.
