In honor of Spectre3353's departure...

Aethelestan checked his directional scan once more.

"Crap" he thought.

There was a Malediction-class interceptor on scan. Choosing a random planet, his ship slowly accelerated, he stared at his overview, fearing the interceptor would appear. His heart pounding in his throat, he reviewed the cargo in his hold. 4 Hound Stealth Bombers, contracted for delivery to Loes. It cost him a pretty penny in collateral to move this load, but the payoff was worth it - if he could deliver. If not, he'd be back to moving Veldspar in the warzone. That wasn't fun.

Re-computing his course to Loes, he realized he had no choice but to fly though Egghelende and Anamake. Groaning inwardly, he wondered if it were really worth it, taking a chance in the most dangerous areas of empire space. Not that the empires did anything but collect taxes out there. No security at all for a poor industrial pilot. Ah well. His clients didn't care about his problems. They wanted their ships. Adjusting his course, he knew it was out of his hands...

Aura alerted him as he approached the Jel-Egghelende gate. Directional scan around the gate showed no ships. He jumped immediately into Egghelende as soon as he dropped out of warp. As he feared, local was all pirates. He had pre-programmed his aviodance routine into the ship's systems, as he warped to a planet within scan range of the Siseide gate. Nothing on scan. Would he be so lucky? He commanded his ship to warp directly to the gate. Landing, his jump engines activated immediately. The world flipped upside down and went black as his ship jumped between regions.

As Aura updated his overview and local broadcast, 6 ships appeared on his overview. They were all sitting within assault range of the gate. Myrmidon, Taranis, Wolf, Drake and a pair of Tempests. All pilots in the pirate alliance Jerk Cartel. Cursing his luck, he opened a local channel.

"How much to fly through unmolested?" he asked.

"1 billion" sneered a pilot named Helicity Boson.

"Would I be piloting an Iteron through losec if I had a billion isk?"

"What's your cargo" asked another pilot, Spectre3353

"I'm hauling ships to Loes," he answered. "I think they are bombers headed to some nullsec alliance."

His ship began to lose gatecloak. Looking at his overview, he chose a planet to warp to, maybe he'd have a chance to escape with his life if they wouldn't be bought. He commanded Aura to begin the warp cycle, hoping they'd be distracted. Unfortunately the telltale targeting alert was almost instant, followed by a warp disruption notice. His ship shook as the Myrmidon fired several rounds of ammuntion, disrupting half his shields.

"150 million ISK, transferred to me in the next 60 seconds or we turn your ship into a pile of spacedust, and loot whatever is left," announced Spectre.

Aethelestan brought up his wallet information. He would have less than $100k left if they destroyed his ship after the ransom. His choices were limited. He could only hope to escape with his pod, or that they were honorable pirates.

"That's all I've got" he complained. "How do I know you won't shoot me anyway?"

"You don't" growled Spectre, "but I give you my word. 30 seconds."

His heart racing, he authorized the transfer, watching painfully as his wallet emptied.

Three more rounds of ammunition ripped through his shields, tearing into his armor.

"I paid!" he screamed into the neocomm, closing his eyes and begging, willing his ship to warp away, knowing that the moment his hull collapsed his pod would respond to the last command.

"I see that," said Spectre, as the fire continued. "We are pirates! Why would you expect us to honor our deal?"

As his ship exploded around him, Aethelestan's pod warped off.

"Thanks for the ISK - and your wreck dropped 3 of those Hounds. I'll put them to good use," chuckled Spectre. "Next time don't fly through my space."

Spectre has quit EVE,
noobs are begging for his stuff,
watching them scramble.

Killed me in low sec,
blew up my hurricane too,
was quite a good trap.

A lot of isk lost,
but lots of fun all around,
take care and good luck.

I did not know you,
except your guns business end,
can I have your stuff.

o7,

Why wasn't the Taranis wtfbbqpwned by the sentry guns? That was a neat trick.

Or was Aethelestan one of those low-security-status-hauler pilots?

Doh! Shocked My foolish null-sec lifestyle betrays my inability to actually write legitimate fiction. I forgot about those gate gun things you have to deal with up there... The original story will be edited in a few ways...

Not very accurate, I do a lot of the ransoming. We honor our ransoms. We don't ransom on gates usually. Replace the frigates with hics. The dialogue lacks the flare of the phallic obsessed Python Cartel tbh.

So you actually all fly in the Thorax and Deimos, and discuss the ej*culati*n of the blasters?
Cool
Sorry for the lack of accuracy. As I said, I don't find myself in the enviable position of ransoms, which are more a losec experience, from what I hear. I guess I should add that to my list of things to try in 2010. Wink
