I'm curious and sorry if its so obvious but it isnt to me lol. Just wondering how these cynos and jump portals work exactly. Lets say im in a stealth bomber with a cyno and im in 0.0 and I spot a gate camp or whatever. Do I activate the modual and then how do my corp mates 20+ jumps away or whatever jump to it? Also with jump portal gen's a black ops ship would just activate the modual and people can just jump right to his location? I dont get out the connection is made exactly.

Can someone please explain.

I assume are you referring to usage of black ops and not jump portals on titans, which are operated a bit differently.

You in your stealth bomber/recon with cynosaural field theory lvl5 trained and a covert cyno fitted would reach target system. You would open your covert cyno and broadcast this beacon in your fleet window. Your black ops ship located in range (max range of a BO is 4.5ly @ lvl5 jump drive calibration) will then jump to that beacon.

Once the black ops is in position, it will open up the jump portal and against broadcast that portal to the fleet, and the rest of your gangmates can bridge through as well. Everybody scatters and cloaks, etc, and general havoc and mayhem ensues.

So you have to have 2 ships involved. The black ops stays in system with the rest of your fleet while afew light years away there I am with a covert ops in the target system with 100 negs in. I launch a covert cyno and broadcast it to my fleet, then the black ops uses his jump portal generator to jump to my location, then the bridge is made and people can jump through?

Yup, you got it. It takes two ships, but the advantage is that the forward scouting, covert cyno lighting ship is the only one required to sneak into the target system via conventional methods.

Just be sure to bring enough fuel to jump everyone in, including potentially adding in a blockade runner if your gang is large enough(for fuel and bombs and loot storage). And if you intend to jump people out, have a 2nd covert cyno toon located eslewhere ahead of time as a jump out beacon is never a bad idea.

Ok w8 a minute here, since I am a bit new to this covert cyno/bridging thiny...

After recon open covert cyno...blackops jumps in and creates a bridge portal...after that can ANY type ship in your gang jump thru to the recon/blackops location or just certain ship types like recon/covops/blackops etc.?

Cheers and thx in advance

all ships, maybe not titan I dunno

No, only ships certain ships can utilize the black ops portal - any ship which can warp cloaked can use this portal, and the cruiser-class hulls which meet this requirement also use up a lot more fuel than a frigate-class hull when they jump the bridge.

This is false.

They operate exactly the same as titan bridge with the exception of range, fuel costs, use of a covert cyno, and ships that can be bridged.

step 1. Covert Cyno ship travels to destination system within jump range of the blackops
step 2. Covert Cyno ship lights covert cyno
step 3. Black Ops opens a bridge to the covert cyno, ships to be bridged right click>jump to destination via the black ops.

The black ops remains in the original system after the portal closes.

So the black ops effectively becomes just a jump gate.... but you jump very far lol

sort of. It's not about how far you can jump (which isn't very far) it's about where you can jump to.

tbh the covert jump portal was pretty useless except as a falcon transporter until they buffed bombers. Now it's got a few uses, assuming you have enough SBs.

So the black ops and the recon ship( rapier) open the bridge toghter so the sb*s and blackops can jump to the system? An dthen the black ops that have open the bridge have to do a single jump by itself?

Oh and can a black op jump from high sec to low sec?

OK, there seems to be a deal of confusion with this, so lets use system names for ease sake.

Say I'm in my widow in hek with a stealth bomber fleet riding my back; my CEO finds a gate camp in resbroko(sp?) that he wants to get rid of.

1. He flies there in his Pilgrim and pops a covert cyno off grid.

2. I activate my window's black ops jump portal.

3. I become a one way jump bridge for my stealth bombers between my widow and his Pilgrim.

4. They right click me and select jump to resbroko(sp?)

5. I choose whether or not to follow them in

6. ???

7. Profit

so you CAN jump portal from highsec to lowsec, and vice-versa?

you can jump from high sec to any cyno in range, but you cannot light a cyno in high sec for the return trip.

So you could light a cyno in 0.4 right next to jita or something using a recon ship or any ship that can launch a covert cyno then a black ops "within" range could act as a jump gate for lets say my frieghter carrying lots of goodies and I could right click on the black ops ship and jump to 0.4 and then just warp to the high sec gate?

Only ships that can use a cov ops cloak can be bridged.

Stealth bombers, covert ops, recons, t3 with covert subsystems, and cloaky haulers.

So how do all the other battleships and stuff get jumped? I have seen vids of capital ships being cyno'ed in. How do battleships and all other normal ships jump then?

Guerrica

Capital ships and Jump freighters pack their own jump drives and thus can lock onto any normal cyno.

Sub-capitals (everything else) can be titan bridged. Here a normal cyno takes the place of the recon's covert cyno and the titan takes the place of the black ops.

Since titans can't go in high-sec you can't bridge normal ships from high -> lo like you can do with covert jump capable ships.

#1 it's counter productive to do it off grid, pretty much defeats the purpose.
#5 doesn't belong. You choose to portal or to open a bridge initially when the covert cyno was first activated. You can't do both at once, and if you wish to follow you'll need a 2nd covert cyno to jump yourself to after the bridge goes down (covert cyno only lasts 30 seconds on a force recon).

Hmmm. . . I like to set my fleets up off grid. . . And oh yeah I forgot about the short cyno issue.

Just to clarify if I want to cyno my alt's hulk from 0.4 to 0.0 or vice versa it can only be done using a titan bridge? It seems silly that you can only cyno covert ops/recons ect

Yes and no. You could pack the hulk into a cap ship and jump the cap ship. Carriers get used for moving ships around pretty frequently.

To reiterate, the only other way to move ships that aren't A) Capitals B) Recon/CovOps from system to system is with a Titan bridge. Sub-caps are meant to use stargates, that is why the gates are there.

hmm I wouldnt like to bring my frieghter or hulk through 0.0 even with a scout cos someone could come through the gate that the scout idnt going through.

You could put your hulk into a blockade runner. . .

I heard about a blockade runner before but im not exactly sure what this is, could you explain please?

A blockade runner is a Tech 2 hauler. It's faster and more agile than its Tech 1 counterparts and is capable of fittng a covert ops cloak. Thus allowing you to warp cloaked and avoid a lot of trouble.

It can also jump through a BlackOps jump-bridge.

Hulk inside BlockadeRunner

Widow bridged to Rapier. BlockadeRunner jumpes from Widow to Rapier. Skipping gate camps and crap.

ohh I see, Using a cloaking ships obviously helps the situation but when you have only 1 guy in local and the next gate is 90AU away and when you warp to it you see a bubbled and you get dragged 60km from the gate lol, most bubbles have cans in there aswell to decloak you but I understand the risks :)

does anyone know...can you also use a normal cyno? e.g. Have covert cyno in target system with a normal cyno to jump back in home system

I presume you have to uncloak to light the covert cyno?

Yes, no problem. Black Ops can jump to any cyno, including a cyno array at a POS. But it can only bridge the covert portal to a covert cyno. It cannot bridge to a regular cyno.

Yes you have to uncloak to light the covert cyno.
