Hello all. I have a few questions regarding my future plans in Eve, and would be grateful for any advice offered. I appreciate the search function but often find it... unspecific.

Firstly, a quick description of my current situation. I am verging on 5m SP. I will soon be stepping into a Covetor which I beleive will serve me well for the time being. I also have solid scanning skills with which I hope to scan down ore sites. I am ivesting most of my SP into Industry.

I am currently flying solo, but this hasn't hindered me yet. My short term goals consist of obtaining some T1 blueprints in order to manufacture items for an alt who will likely busy himself with R-V-B, such as ammunition and artillery turrets. I do not expect to sell any of these modules; the general consensus (afaik) being that low grade production is next to worthless. With that in mind, I am interested in advancing to T2 production, and putting that ore to good use.

Now for my main question. I have no problem in investing training time into invention, although I hear it is a lenghty process. If, for example, I wanted to produce T2 drones, are there specific avenues that I must follow in order to obtain these BP's?

I am also still fuzzy as to whether invention produces copies or originals. As far as I know copies can only produce a limited number of items. More info here is also gratefully recieved.

TL:DR; I would like to begin producing T2 items; can someone break down the process of obtaining the BP/BPC's, advise me on essential skills, give me an honest opinion of the time it will take me and any ideas/delusions of grandeur that I should avoid.

Thanks in advance.

You might find the industry forum has the answers to your questions. Check the stickies.

Manufacturing will suck up more minerals than you can mine, as well as types of minerals you don't mine. If you are going into mining just for manufacturing, then that isn't a good idea.

For drone invention, buy any T1 BPO (they are cheap) and look at what it says you need in the way of skills and equipment. Higher skills means more success. I have level 2 skills in all T2 production skills, so that's about 42% success.

Good luck!

T2 drones are actually a great first step into the world of invention. The reason for this is that they do not require a whole lot of skill and are on the cheaper end to produce. When you run an invention job you will have a chance of success of failure. Jobs that succeed will yield a blue print copy with -4ME and -4PE. If a job fails you lose all the materials except the interface. There are items called decriptors that you can use to adjust the results of your invention jobs. If you have not done so you will want to read this wiki page. http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Invention

As a basic overview you should understand that there is risk involved especially if you are starting out with low capital. Do not expect to jump on to a cash cow on your first days with invention. As for skills you will want to pick up the 4 racial decryption skills and then from there find out what you want to produce and get the appropriate science skills. When you get these skills you will want to take them to level 4 right away. The higher the science skill needed for the job the higher the chance of success. One last bit of information you may not know is that you must run invention jobs from a BPC and cannot run from a BPO so if you do buy BPOs from the market you must be willing to run copy jobs to make your investment pay off.

I will busy myself in those stickies; it seems I have some work to do. I understand that little in Eve is quick to grasp or implement, but it is nice to have something on the horizon all the same. For now I will fiddle about with minor manufacturing/mining. I think that this will tie me over and provide a better grounding for more advanced projects in the future.

Thankyou for the replies; I may pose this question to the folks on the Industry forum.

Any other comments are of course welcome.

Bear in mind that the T2 BPC is very likely to require additional skills to produce the item when compared to the equivilent T1 BPC.

Some people don't bother and just sell the BPCs rather than manufacture, but the additional cost for the advanced skills is something to bear in mind.
