Seriously guys.. it's 2010 (almost) .. people have 24 inches monitors (or bigger) and we still have to deal with those ******ed 8 pixels high, unreadable fonts?

Why?

Maybe when the UI itself gets the badly-needed overhaul that is also years overdue?

well, in chat channels, you can use the "increase font" button.

What the hell?

This isn't 1992... we want smaller fonts.
Smaller fonts and smaller UIs = better.

Pretty sure you can increase font size in more than just the chat channels too. Check the ESC menu.

I'm trying to figure out what's so unreadable about them.

Can't tell the difference between 8 and 9, or D, O and 0.

Those are my only complaints with it really. The size doesn't bother me, and I got a small monitor.

I agree with OP.

Pixels in some monitors have been getting smaller and smaller, so EvE's fonts are hard to read on those monitors.

I play on a 1920x1200 laptop, and I have to nearly double the UI size (run EvE at a much lower screen rez) to be able to use the UI. This makes a lot the UI too big, but the game isn't playable if you can't read the text, so I have no choice.

I don't 'see' your problem, I run 2 clients at 1920x1200 on 2x S-PVA 24" screens, and can read the standard fonts perfectly, even with my old eyes...

I think its going to take at least two years to fix that. But why won't you enjoy walking in station during that time?

This resolution of the fonts is perfectly fine, though I can understand why the terminally blind would want an option to change the size.

It's the indistinct nature of several characters, as noted above, that I'd like to see addressed.

Only problem I have ever had is that G, 6 and & look the same in game. But usually a 6 wont be in the middle of a word so I dont really cair lol.

wish they'd let you pick the truetype font you want from drop down menu like couple other mmo's ive played let ya. Or they let include a preset list 5 to 10 to pick from and pitch size.

I've been idling in the german help channel for about 2 years now and the question that comes up at the very least once every day is: "How do I increase the fontsize?"

Imo, if you were to make it an option in a survey and send it to every player - not just those few percent lurking in the forums - it'd probably be among the top 10 feature requests. If you were to limit that survey to UI issues, it would BE the number one request. Most definitely.

It is especially bad on some laptops with extreme resolutions but only an obviously laptop-sized display. Also, certain numbers and letters are always hard to distinguish. It's not great on my 1680x1050 widescreen either, but at least I can read stuff :)

Agreed.

The good news is that CCP seems to have acknowledged the issues.

"UI Fonts. CCP pleased everyone by announcing they hired a “Font Guy” which means that improvements on that front are to be expected"

You can ask youself why CCP are such cheapskates that they won't buy their staff some decent monitors with high resolutions so they can witness the tiny fonts for themselves.

escape -> general settings -> font width, put it on wide. They become larger then. Also really ugly.

There are exactly three options, the biggest of which I enabled my first day playing EVE and is still far too small at 1920x1200.

With all the text in this game, they need to work on making it more readable at modern resolutions. I'm sure when 1024x768 was a common resolution, the font was fine, but now that double that resolution is common, it's just too small to read easily.

I'd love to see the UI redone and made fully scalable like every other MMO I've played recently (WAR, Aion), but I'd settle just for bigger fonts.

I can't believe this hasn't gotten any attention. Do the devs all play at low resolution or have the monitor 3 inches from their faces or something?

Hell yeah, I'd like to choose bigger and/or different fonts. 22" monitor here, and yes, my vision is impaired a bit. Should that be a reason not to be able to play EVE comfortably? Uh? Cool

I've got to agree too. The fonts are too small on 1920x1200 (24" widescreen monitor), that was actually my first question in the rookie help channel in the game. And it's a question that I see in that same help channel so many times while I'm playing. The usual response is "click the A in the top left", yeah great that helps the chat but not the rest of the UI which is way to stinkin' small.

I think I understand it though why they haven't introduced anything large than the 12 wide, I would have to guess that it will break the UI, it will word wrap things that shouldn't be word wrapped or it will expand the UI boxes when they shouldn't be expanded, or it simply will fall out of the space provided for it and make the whole UI look like hell. I would have to imagine that it's a whole lot more work to allow us to increase the font than simply turning it on or not.

These settings only worsen the matter instead of improving it.

To top it off :
In the new IGB browser the font is changed to something horribly unreadable for http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports
Anyone know wtf that is about ?
I'd prefer my superslow old IGB browser that at least displayed the site with the default font I get in firefox.

every single person i showed eve like "hey, check it out, give it a go, and when you do that, please, please do the turorial and do not abort it;-)" said within the first 20seconds "wtf, that font is so damn small?!?! i cant read a singe word"

yea, it is small, i have no probs reading it, but some people tend to sit further away from theyr computer/laptop so they have a hard time reading it, or they have to move closer.. a simple way to increase the font size would be very helpful.. i gotta say, there are lots of players who dont even think about goin further in the tutorial because of the font size,.. and then stop playin after 1 or 3 hour, maybe just 20mins.

yea, fix the font size.. that'd be great!

Pretty much what he said, I use the 120dpi text option in vista not because I have to, but its just more comfortable for me to do so (30" 2560x1600). Why not?

Exactly.. these were my first thoughts too and, yes, everybody I show the game to is complaining about the gui in general but the fonts are 2nd thing.

I do use the wider font options.. won't help.. also, some text are capitalized which make them even less readable.

And the chat window is the only thing I can make the fonts bigger.

I don't think we need total gui overdo.
An option to make font size bigger for 3 things would be enough:
- quest log
- mail client
- item properties (the description text)

Seriously why the **** the _new_ mail client uses this damn retarted small font the the e-mail body is beyond me.

And if you don't have problems reading the fonts as they are now, you won't have the problem if they provide the option to make it bigger, so why the **** do you even post about it? Morons.
