Yes, yes. I know there is already a Caracal thread on page one but this is a different issue.

I'm still a newish player and my pvp experience is somewhat limited. I'm getting ready to go frig hunting solo in a Caracal but I'd like to try to nail a few cruisers while I'm at it. What do I actually have a chance at killing? What tactics should I use when killing them? Would appreciate any constructive advice. Below is my fit. Thanks in advance.

[Caracal, frigates for lunch]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive
Stasis Webifier II
Warp Disruptor II
Invulnerability Field II
Large Shield Extender II

Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile
50W Infectious Power System Malfunction

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I

Warrior II x2

(May decide to swap out the neut for a 5th launcher)

Well, you have little tank and can't go too fast, not to mention the very low DPS for a cruiser. The whole purpose of an AML caracal is to kill frigs, remember.

You could kill SOME cruisers...the ones that you can kite. AMLs have far greater range than most potential targets, so if you can kite them around 22km (stay within point range of course) you should be fine. THe problem is, most cruisers will have an MWD and are faster than you.

And yes, get a 5th launcher. You do NOT want to sacrifice 20% of your DPS. A neut just isn't worth that much

Kahega is pretty much right! however the caracal is faster than all T1/cruisers with a Armour tank! Bar the rupture, stabber, bellicose and also you could beat the latter 2 no pretty easy or atleast run them away...

The issue is less about your fit, and more about the tactics you employ to win the fight.

As already stated in this thread, its a matter of outrunning your enemy cruiser to keep distance. My advice is, forget about caldari and train into Amarr if you want to PvP. Barring that, get really good at keeping range on your enemy if your going to stick with caldari.

Telling people to train for Amarr if they want to PvP is just an personal opinion that has no basis. If you think that Caldari has little mobility and thus is no good, why do you advise him to fly a brick that is even slower? Just because of the lasers? If he invests the time that it would take him to cross train to buff his missile skills, he'll get better results.
I will offer my opinion as well. Caldari work best at range. Use disruptor and web (overheat) to keep the enemy ship at a range that he can't scram you, keep spamming keep at range and let the missiles hit every time.

Just wondering why you say train Amarr if you want to PvP. I would train Minmatar if you were to PvP especially with the new changes in Dominion.

Drop the neut, drop to T1 MWD. Then you can kill any ABing lolfit (although it's annoying when the pimped Vexor manages to self-destruct before you can chew through its insane trimarked, slaved EHP).

Against PVP-fit cruisers, it's trickier. It's possible to kill anything slower than you - which basically means something like any armour-tanked cruiser that isn't a Rupture etc - the Caracal has good speed and great agility. But damn it's hard. Skills are important here - you need your speed. One slip and either you get tackled, or your opponent slips out of point range.

It's worth noting that more and more cruisers are being shield-tanked even when you might expect an armour tank on them. You won't have a speed advantage against them - but they won't have much of a tank.

yeh role amarr because they just excel in solo pvp.
Its because the number of mid slots they get!

Also, you can be farely certain amarr will always be good. cause its not like amarr was the under dog last year and the balance shifts between races quiet alot.

/sarcasm off.

That being said most caldari ships shine with a friend.
Cause fitting a full tackle will hurt you to much.

It can kill T1/T2 frigs, Interdictors/destroyers and some cruisers. If it can catch them. Catching something in it is hard, as most things smaller than you will run from you and most things that are same size or bigger can kinda kill you. It is not that good ship for solo, but it's very good in gangs to smack the enemy tacklers.

Drop the neut and go with 5 launchers instead as suggested. Also those warrior II's will not do a lot for you. Might be sensible to go instead with few light armor rep drones if you gang does not have dedicated logistic support. If not then EC-600 - not very effective, but might allow you to bail it if you get in trouble - not reliable ofc, just kinda like last straw.

As stated above, you should be able to kite and kill most armor tanking cruisers. Just remember thats not really what the AML Cara is for. Its a frig hunter.

IMO the Cara is a great ship for people who are new to pvp to get some practice in and build confidence. In fact, even after playing for several years I still take mine out once or twice a week. Its great fun.

I use a caracal to great effect to kill frigs cruisers and to do a good amount of damage to even larger targets. Simple area where I vary from you is I use HML's Along with a shield tank web scram and sebo. Speed aint an issue if you can get them webbed typically they expect a caracal to have a decently weak tank, If you rememdy that you will have raxes and such burn 20 km just tog et in range to kill you. Mean time you are hitting them hard with scourge furies and drones. Web them when they hit 10k away and keep running away that way you can turn around when they hit about 50% armor and keep them from running. Big thing is you want to be in web range before they realize they aren't going to win lol
Caracals are fun to fit Better as a group though. Get a friendly Vex to bait and you show up 90 or so km off and start shooting. You can pull over 300 dps in a caracal with shield rigs.
