I think the cloak system works well the way it is with the single exception that people are sitting afk safespotted and cloaked in systems for days at a time with no hope of ever being discovered, providing free intel and locking down systems. This is a problem that should be addressed.

To counter this I think there should be cloak-find probes that work like regular combat scanner probes except with a terrible sensor strength, but which are able to find cloaked ships and receive a sensor bonus to ships that are cloaked.

I don't see this really "nerfing covops" or making covops too crappy to use, because the ships would still have to fly on top of the cloaked ship to decloak it, and most cloaked ships would be able to see it coming (cloak-scan probes on directional scanner, hostile ships aligning towards you, and if you're really not paying attention, you'd still have time to warp to a random celestial if you see the hostiles warping to you) and avoid it.

This would basically only be useful against people who are playing "afk". Any cloaker with half a brain would add cloak scan probes to his scanner to easily counter these methods. Most people who are paying attention would be able to warp off in time even if caught. However, any covops sitting afk in system or orbiting and not paying attention would be an easy target.

Go f yourself. And while doing so, don't fix what ain't broken (if he is afk then how is he any danger ?). And your corp fails royally if 3 people that are not even in front of pc lock whole systems down.

Update:
Just looked you up - it's nice to see goonswarm QQing on forum.

Cloaking is perfectly fine.

Local is overpowered.

I happen to agree with this: a cloaked ship should be detectible in some way. You may not be able to actually pin it down to a warpable location, but you'll be able to pin down which gate the cloaker is watching.

QFT

edit: Also, making anything that can detect the ship would make the ship no longer cloaked by definition.

Said before, will say again.

If something is made to detect cloak, then cloaks become useless and broken. Same with rigs for cloak lock, and everything else. When cloaked, you cannot do anything, even move with a non covert ship. Commonly called running silent, but everything ship has is devoted to keeping ship not running. Permanent penalties too.

So only way is make something so it is easier to find peeps before they cloak since covert ships run full cloak anyways. For low and null, got ecm burst and smartbombs to cover the field, and to detect, make a covert probe launcher like suggested, but instead, the probes are cloaked when not scanning making harder to pick up on D scan. Doesn't nerf cloaked people, just makes it harder for them to pick you up hunting for them.

Edit: and yeah, I think sov needs some sort of comm tower structure with the new system for 0.0 locals...

What gets me is all the 0.0 people telling us High Sec people go out to 0.0 where the real PvP'ers live. You 0.0 people are funny, scared of an AFK cloaker. Cloaks are fine.

Would this be a good time to point out that goons essentially invented (and certainly perfected) afk cloaking harrassment and even gave it the typically gooney name of "c.0.c.k f.a.g.g.i.n.g".

For a goon to be now whinging about afk cloaking surely is in the running for the most ironic post of 2009.

Would be cool if you didnt show up in local if your cloaked.
Then no one would care if you were there it wouldnt lock a place down.
but you should be able to scan for cloakers with probes too.
so wether or not someone is there your on guard
Id say thats the best of both worlds everyone gets a boost but it all still works.

I think the simplest solution is to remove local. They can already do it as in wormholes so it's easy as pie to implement compared to a whole new scanning system.

I mean seriously, if you don't know the guy is there, you won't all run off and dock forever. He'll realize that sitting cloaked afk serves no further purpose and he'll leave.

QQ more you losers. A cloaker is detected as far as he shows up in Local. You know he is there. If you can't handle it, go run missions in hisec, stupid carebears.
