Personally. I'm going to train a 30 day skill starting on the last day of November.

Just in case I can't log on for a while...

Battleship 5 for me!

And Command Ships 5 for my alt probably.

I won't even bother trying to download it on December 1st.

On a separate note, lets hope the name "Dominion" had not been stealthily changed to "the return of boot.ini" Smile

You could know, start the download and go to work for once. Or meet some friends or do whatever.
I can't believe i'm reading this thread. People can't deal with a single day of no playing an online game?

Backpackers and prostitutes should stay indoors on patch day considering how many got murdered on the last one.

forgive my being a STUPID AMERICAN but wassnt a large part of the large update last time because of lots of graphics changes? or maybe im totally wrong.

Now now it's not you're fault that you're american.

But the graphics would have made up a big chunck of that patch so yeah thats probably the reason for the size. It will most likely be somewhere in the range of 500MB.

This patch is also a graphics update! There are new textures for planets, which include clouds that move. There are also models for the new objects such as TCUs and blockers.

So it wouldn't surprise me to find that the Dominion patch will be about 2-3GB. Something for me to do at work while everyone else is busy ironing out the post-patch kinks.

Or not, as rapidshare doesn't have enough bandwidth. Using all of rapidshare's bandwidth (240 gigabits/s according to Wikipedia) it would take hours to get the patch to all eve subscribers. Using only rapidshare's normally unused bandwidth (depending on how saturated they are normally) it could be weeks before everyone got the patch downloaded. Rapidshare just isn't designed for this scale of distribution.

CCP use (Limelight Networks) who have more than ten times the bandwidth of rapidshare (again, according to Wikipedia).

And that's ignoring rapidshare's normal 2GB file limit and incredibly slow download speeds for non-subscribers.

Not because of dominion content itself, I like the changes they do 0.0. Infact it doesnt affect me because I am a badass pirate.

But I fear the download the day itself, last march it was a 1 gb download. When I try to upgrade from a normal client to sisi now, it sais I have to download 2.8 GB.

It takes me 2 hours to do that, thats not bad can cause I ccan just leave computer on and do other stuff, but when everybody start doing that (30k connections online any moment of the day), what kind of downloads speeds we gonna get then? Is there a plan for this?

It doesn't matter. The first 2 weeks will be hardly playable with lag/bugs and the server going down every 5 hours not to mention on patchday itself the servers will be at least 8 hours down longer then initially said.Looking forward to the same old whine posts allready about this. Wink

A hundred times this.

Proper new release download procedure.
Day T -1: Set long (i.e. 5day+) skill training on all accounts.
Day T -0: Release day! Catch up on sleep.
Day T +1: Check forums for tides of "ZOMG WTF MY COMPUTER ARE HAXXORRED!" posts by the unwashed masses. If all looks clear, start download. Go to work.
Day T +1 +10h: Log into Eve, resume play.
