*Publicly states that the ability for a single player/small group of players to "insta-pop" hundreds to thousands of other players is a incredibly poor game design choice*

*Implements this ability, in the form of titans, anyway*

I still want to know who is responsible for Nozh not knowing how target painters work. That is the real crime here.

But ... but ... it was a team remember. So the WHOLE ****ing dev team doesn't know game mechanics.

Phew, and I thought only 1 person at CCP was an idiot. Rolling Eyes

POST 1376

Calling someone an idiot is not helping... i know you are mad but breath in breath out

Okay so CCP is not happy with the way the super caps weigh in compared to the normal caps.

So simpel solution.... remove them from the game? compensate the players that have them by parking them in a station of their choise with all the capital compnants of the ship so they dont loose anything.

If this idea is to radical, DROP the changes for now, stop think act. And please do a dev blog that tries to awnser some of the questions raised and please work on the PR side of thinks you can get a lot better at it if you try.

First, thanks for the post.

2nd. You say you want to make the game fun for everyone, yet you are literally castrating the current titan pilots ingame (along with the rest of the capital ships). most who have been with u guys for 4+ years now (6+! years in my case Shocked)

Not a single response was given to us in the test server feedback titan thread while we desperately tried to get u guys to reconsider the outrageous nerf on us. Is this really the direction you want to take with the titan? Even if all the titan pilots are against it?

I don't really need to comment on the other capital ships obviously, as there are more than enough ppl here that have voiced their dislikes of your nerf bat u like to call balance.

Make the game FUN. not stale.

Click on my profile and read my other posts Hammer. It would make me happy if I knew that you really were listening..

Hammerhead:

If CCP Nozh is not to blame for this, are you implying that your entire dev team on the capital ships issue does not understand the irrelevance of target painters, or the range at which capital fights actually happen on Tranquility?

If your entire team shares the glaring misconceptions about the game which Nozh's blog demonstrated, things are very bad indeed for the playerbase.

First, I’d like to say that a single developer cannot come in and unilaterally change everything with no oversight. People are spewing a lot of hate at CCP Nozh but instead it’s a case of shooting the messenger. He is just doing his job trying to improve the game and explain the reasoning for why changes were made.

If you don't want us to shoot your messenger, here's an idea: don't pick a messenger who is so hilariously clueless about the subject that he makes stupid posts about things like target painting capital ships or fitting 5x DCUs on motherships.

Quote:
We weren’t entirely happy with the direction and balancing of MOMs before development of Dominion began. Even during the SISI tests they still weren’t falling into place for us. They were potentially too powerful and that would have resulted in a small minority having a lot of fun at the cost of thousands who would be instapopped in 0.0. So we tried to tune them again to a point we felt was balanced, but then the role of the ships wasn’t clear once we started to lower the damage. Instead, they started to blur with dreads and carriers.

See, now was that hard? Was there some reason that you could not have said this from the beginning?

Also, the idea that the earlier changes were only good for a small minority is just silly. Look at the people posting here. Notice that you have a pretty good selection of 0.0 alliances, including hated enemies agreeing on what direction things should go. This is not just a few mothership pilots looking for their new "I win" button, this is near-unanimous agreement between the people who actually play the game in 0.0 about how 0.0 should be.

And besides that, I fail to see how the mothership changes would lead to insta-popping. Are you familiar with the stats on fighter bombers, especially the low precision of their missiles? Against everything but capital ships, mothership performance would remain exactly the same, and even against capital ships, their damage output is merely better than dreads (as appropriate for a 15 billion ISK ship), not enough to insta-kill capitals.

Hi, everyone

We have been carefully watching this thread and I want to set the record straight on a few misconceptions.

First, I’d like to say that a single developer cannot come in and unilaterally change everything with no oversight. People are spewing a lot of hate at CCP Nozh but instead it’s a case of shooting the messenger. He is just doing his job trying to improve the game and explain the reasoning for why changes were made. We work as a team and agree on the direction things are taking. We want the game to be balanced and fun for everyone to play. We also think about the future of the game and how it will be in years to come after our changes weighing the medium- and long-term repercussions.

You all made your voices clear with important feedback, we listened and reverted things back to like they are on TQ while we take more time to reassess. We could have tried to put out “something” just because we have been talking about it, but then we would be in a situation where players are getting into ships that might very well change again in a coming patch. Given the amount of work to get one of these we just didn’t feel that was the right thing to do.

stuff...

CCP Hammerhead

I interpret this as a team failure then since Dominion is turning into the biggest bucket of weak sauce in Eve history.

Ambulation ... nah .. CCP went back to the drawing board on that one

Supercaps .. lets take the doomsday away from titans, completely failboat on MS changes but wait .. we have capital cruise now!

Sov .. let ditch sov and more bits to have to shoot over and over .. but fear not .. alliances will have to consolidate due to cost .. scratch that .. costs have been reduced due to complaints from big alliances

T3 frigs .. nope no word on that yet

new ship classes ... nope.. spent the time on buffing faction ships.

new game content ... whoop .. a faction epic arc .. how many people actually played the others ?

Result .. threadnaught with 46 pages of flame ..

I think the message is loud and clear that Dominion is a letdown before it is even released. I can't remember being so unthrilled about an expansion in m 5 years of Eve life ..

If I make it onto the CSM, I cannot wait for my first conversation with the Devs.

Well I wish you'd thought of this year ago with the doomsday device. Who exactly are you contending would get instapopped and in what ship types?

Quote:

The other misconception I want to address is about our public test server. SISI is there so we can have as many people as possible looking for bugs. We think it best to put things out in the public as soon as possible regardless of whether or not it’s final so we get more eyes on it. This just makes sense to us from a QA standpoint because EVE is an extremely complex piece of software. SISI isn’t really meant to be a place to try new fittings, do FFA battles or preview upcoming features, although we know people use it for that and we really don’t mind because more load on our test server helps us find bugs. It’s also not a guarantee as to what will be in the next expansion. There have been plenty of times when we dropped a feature that was partially complete on SISI. Arenas and storefronts are two recent examples. It’s highly probable that we like pulling features from a release even less than you do but sometimes it cannot be helped. So while supercarriers were on the test server and had gone through plenty of testing it still wasn’t guaranteed to end up on TQ in that exact state. Only what lands on TQ on patch day is guaranteed.

So in other words players out in 0.0 can't possibly comprehend the complexities of fights in 0.0 and could never, collectively and almost unanimously, come to a conclusion that a feature would be a good idea. Seriously, my only concern with supercarriers would be making fighter bombers non assignable so that the mothership needs to remain on the field.

Cool. The Stupid(tm) for the motherships has been pushed back.

Dear CCP,

I would like to request that you please refrain from the consistent nerfing of the capitals and super capitals. When they were introduced you promised that they were pre-nerfed and over time their true capacities would be revealed; however in the years since then I have watched as the nerf bat has been repeatedly applied to them. If you must nerf them would you please consider providing them with appropriate compensatory bonuses and flexibility?

The new Death Ray doomsday truely is a sad, sick joke to a ship that could once strike via cyno field. The proposed changes to the mothership are excessive insult on top of injury after the cargo nerf, and the repurpose of carriers to triage ships.

I thank you for a wonderful game that has kept me as a customer, but i'm afraid that after having reached 100m SP and having seen and done pretty much everything in the game you're on the verge of losing my interest with the promises of further nerfs to ships i've been waiting patiently for you to un-nerf. Might I propose that rather then nerf existing ships and (attempting) to force us to use them in ways they are not suited, that you instead add further content (capitals and super capitals, WH that will accomodate them, etc) for those of us that are at that level and needing new content anyway?

fwiw, i've been around long enough to not expect this plea to make an ounce of difference, but i'm posting it anyway.

will be interesting to see what happens dec 1st. I guess after the initial download we can see how much the online player # changes.

hopefully ccp can inspire us with something half decent, but i'm not holding my breath.

irreversible PR damage caused by inability to communicate effectively then mass censorship.

my constructive advice: Tell us what you want and what your vision for the roles of these ships can / could be. We'll give you ideas. You implement them, we test them. This whole idea of going into your office locking the door and coming out with a solution then getting it thrown back in your face, going back to your office, thinking of a solution isn't working.

1st

With the change to the Titan super pwng gun u have to do somethink with momy´s thats right maybe give them atleast 4-6 mil more ehp so they wont get volleyed by only 2 titans which is for the most large ally´s easy to field.

2nd

Give the citadel cruise missls some more love and don´t make the phoenix absolutly useless and maybe make it possible that those will be able with lvl 4 skills to fly 250 km with some decent speed wich will effect the Naglfar aswell because of the new splitted (old) dmg boni.

Let's find a solution to these problems, people.

Rather than scrapping everything, why not release some of the things as originally designed, and if they do turn out to be a bad idea, tune them or roll them back. Some ideas:
  • Let the AF buff get released, and if it's abused or overpowered, then tune it afterward.
  • Give the Naglfar it's buff and give it a real shield tank. If it's too powerful, scale it back.
  • Let Motherships bomb the crap out of all caps for a bit with it's fighter bomber idea. It has merit. If it is too powerful, scale back the fighter bombers or up the sig radius or slow down speed of the explosion. Or maybe have fighter bombers ignore sig radius increases like target painters if people are using motherships to pop HAC fleets.
  • Maybe allow the torp/cruise missile idea to go out, and later allow target painters to paint all targets. If it's a large target like a mothership, sieged dread, or a pos or pos module, let it be target painted and get even bigger. It won't affect non-cap players either way.
  • Let the new 0.0 design go out, and if people are not as interested as you hope in 0.0, tune the idea and extend the exception period until you're happy with the population.
  • Stop deleting negative posts and start to address them. Suppressing your user base does not make them happier or hide the problem properly. I would hope we could discuss our differences instead of declaring war on each other.

Hopefully, the players can post more constructive criticism instead of just catch phrases and useless posts, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

CCP Hammerhead

I'm happy to listen. I hope you guys at CCP are listening as well but it does not seem that this is the case.

I don't think the real issue is reverting motherships. The real issue is the other changes. The capital missle system changes for example. The way you guys at CCP have gone about telling us stuff gives everyone the impression you do not understand your own game mechanics. The fact that target painters where even mentioned in the same sentence as a Capital weapon system that is designed entirely to shoot things that are immune to target painters is completely poor to mention. The same dev blog tells us the idea is to not be able to shoot sub-capital ships. Thus any talk of target painters at all is really not relevant. What it did do though, was give us as the players the idea that you at CCP have been balancing capital weapon systems based on what a target painter gives.
More issues are the claim that projectiles capital weapon systems are ok as an inferior weapon system because they do not use capacitor. What it failed to mention was that it is not the only system that does not use capacitor. What this is giving the player base is the idea that you do not know what your own game mechanics do.

Thats just the dev blog.. What makes things even worse is that everything said afterwards (or beforehand for that matter) seems to not match up. It is hard to work out what you guys are actually trying to portrait since what you guys say keeps changing.
This is compounded by the lack of answering key questions brought up by the player base. You are giving the impression that you do not care and that is why people are getting upset. That and there is posts here there and everywhere with CCP dev's making almost provocative posts. That doesn't help the player base not be upset about things that are affecting them and their hours and years of work.

The way CCP is going about things needs to be looked at and probably changed. Try being more professional. You guys claimed at fanfest you want excellence. What I want as a player is for you guys to deliver that excellence you said you would provide.

I agree with you 100% Ralph42. WHAT ARROGANCE shown here by Nozh. No acknowledgement whatsoever to a player base that is extremely upset. In fact Nozh first initial response is flippant and IGNORES the most important questions brought up.

Man whatever respect I have for you Nozh now or in the future you have completely lost. This coupled with the censorship on this forum is such a kick in the balls to the Eve online players I am astonished. Simply astonished.

You DO THIS TO THE EVE PLAYER BASE 2 weeks before release? And then you Arrogantly write "Let's see..." Who do you think you are?

Who do you think we are? We are the people who play your games. Man I really am incensed with this. I hope CSM comes out and just roasts you over the massive ARROGANCE being displayed here.

And I have to conclude with the rest of the players here: you really are incompetent and someone needs to take over. What a bloody Public Relations disaster. Mad I really don't think it can get much worse than this.

Put Abanathur's changes back in. This is what the players are asking.

THIS GUY IS NOT LISTENING TO US NOW - so why should any of the players think he will listen in the future or even provide further input hoping to get arrogant bread crumbs in return?

"shooting the messenger" implies the person delivering the news has nothing to do with the news being delivered. This is absolutely not the case here.

Quote:
Even during the SISI tests they still weren’t falling into place for us.

Yet none of you ever expressed this concern. nor did you ever say "hey, we are concerned these ships might end up being too powerful and here's why. Thoughts/concerns/suggestions?". What happened was massive changes were suddenly thrown on SISI weeks before the set deployment date and then none of you bothered to mention a word for 2 days. And even then what was said was vague, short and full of pretty obvious misconceptions as far as how things work on TQ.

Quote:
They were potentially too powerful and that would have resulted in a small minority having a lot of fun at the cost of thousands who would be instapopped in 0.0.

The thousands of what were going to be instapopped? If you were worried about F/B effectiveness against subcaps (mainly with rapier/huggin TP/web support), increase explosion velocity, but adjust damage so dps against dreads remains about the same. DPS against carriers/supercaps would go up, but as they could partially speedtank F/Bs anyways, this is NBD.

Quote:
So we tried to tune them again to a point we felt was balanced, but then the role of the ships wasn’t clear once we started to lower the damage. Instead, they started to blur with dreads and carriers.

You cut their price and damage in half, over double the explosion radius then made them dockable. Enormous changes that weren't thought through at all. That isn't "tuning".

Quote:
We could have tried to put out “something” just because we have been talking about it, but then we would be in a situation where players are getting into ships that might very well change again in a coming patch. Given the amount of work to get one of these we just didn’t feel that was the right thing to do.

So promise us to continue working on mom changes immediately after Dom is sucessfully put in and that you'll set your goal as having proper changes implemented in dominion 1.1. That isn't hard.

Quote:
So while supercarriers were on the test server and had gone through plenty of testing it still wasn’t guaranteed to end up on TQ in that exact state. Only what lands on TQ on patch day is guaranteed.

See my 2nd reply

Quote:
None of us comes to work thinking of ways to enrage the playerbase. As the Lead Game Designer, I take my responsibility seriously and that includes taking responsibility for any decisions made by our team.

Then maybe you should make playing the actual game mandatory. That way you wont have things like suggesting moms fit 5 DCUs to have effective DPS, or require multiple TPs to be effective against their primary target (which can't be TP'd 99% of the time, anyways), or letting them dock, something that was scoffed at by CCP staff at fanfest and by the vast majority of intelligent cap pilots as a terrible, terrible idea.

Quote:

Obviously not, but the poor way some things are handled by your staff does a very good job of enraging us, regardless.

Hey, how do I go about getting a refund? I reactivated a 6 month sub solely for dominion, and you're undoing what I reactivated for. Choose your next words carefully.

They won't care and won't give you your money back. Pray that Dom 1.1 has the feature you were looking for in it but I wouldn't count on it with the way things are being handled.

Thrice deleted and thrice post again CCP. Censorship won't make it go away.

I am going to post this on every page til I get an answer.

OK then CCP Hammerhead, I would like your *teams* decision making process on returning the Naglfar to a useless split weaponed piece of crap after only one patch cycle of being fixed? Why could the bonuses have not been adjusted but LEFT ON THE GUNS? I'm really trying to understand the rationale here when even CCP have admitted split weapons systems are fail hence the change to the Nag to double gun bonuses in the first place.

Post [1368] again. Atleast 176 posts deleted so far according to eve-search.

Thanks for listening

Ah... Lead game developer. So your the one who is at fault then. Not that it excuses Nozh's lack of knowledge of capitals and 0.0 combat. You should have never had him write that blog if you didn't want us going off on him.

We made our voices clear did we? You still aren't hearing us. We were happy with motherships as they were on singularity. I don't recall a great amount of excitement over arenas and storefronts.

Yes those ships would be very powerful but they are also very expensive. Your players felt that was a fair balance of risk and reward. We explained in multiple threads and many posts why we liked it and why it would work.

You on the other hand have not given any explanation beyond a vauge "potentially too powerful" Given that you had someone with as little experience with capitals as Nozh addressing us leads me to think your own experience might be lacking as well. Have you even considered that your players might be right and you might be wrong?

Making a game we all love to play means sometimes actually listening to us all, then swallowing your pride and doing what will make eve thrive.
