From the Star Wars Galaxies wikipedia page:

Quote:
We've learned a thing or two with our experiences with the NGE and don't plan on repeating mistakes from the past and not listening to the players.
óJohn Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment

Subscriber numbers were originally expected to exceed 1,000,000. In August 2005, SOE reported that they had sold 1,000,000 boxed copies of the game. In early 2006, unconfirmed reports showed that only 10,363 subscribers were playing on a particular Friday night, but Smedley denied that subscriptions had fallen this low.

With all the focus you placed on the number of players online during AT7, shouldn't this quote alone send warning bells off in every one of your heads?

Put the original changes to MS through. If they are obviously OP they can always be nerfed back.

Stop gimping all classes of missles. If anything, capital torps should have the highest theoretical DPS potential of any cap weapons system to compensate for the fact that their practical DPS potential will almost always be less due to flight time.

My constructive feedback is that you guys do not handle non-constructive feedback well. You announce changes, and a very vocal 5% of high profile players starts hurling insults at you and this is what we get.

When taking feedback from "the community" you have to understand that what you're going to get isn't going to be motivated wholly, or even primarily, by what's good for the game. It's going to be motivated primarily by people wanting to protect their own investments of time.

Apply sound game design principals, consider feedback that is well reasoned, but ignore the rest, which just amounts to so much emoting and whining. Then, after you have released your changes, watch their actual effects on the game and adjust as necessary.

You know, since embarrassing myself in these forums not too long ago, I've tried not to have any appearance of flaming anyone, but I just dont know how to respond to this without doing so. CCP, you have a dev who apparently knows next to NOTHING about his current task. Said dev also appears to be a blatant empire builder in light of completely ignoring any work that was done before he was assigned to his current task. His actions recently also appear to be either blatant trolling of your customer base or a complete disregard for their feedback/ideas. I gotta ask.. is he from the southern USA? as in * trolling remark removed - CCP Ildoge?
Really now.. you're going to create ahuge IMBA situation among the ships that deal with/require sov the most just as you change sov??? W T F ?

Heres hoping he has NOTHING to do with planetary interaction when you start on it. (the expansion, I am personally looking forward to the most)

You now have over 20 pages of near-unanimous agreement that your balance efforts are a terrible idea, and that your non-answers are not acceptable. The solution is very very simple:

Admit your mistakes and DELAY DOMINION. Do not let stubborn pride force you to rush out an obviously unfinished expansion just to meet an arbitrary deadline.

Once you have removed the deadline, put Nozh to work on something less important (like level 1 courier missions), and listen to your players. Abathur's changes were 95% complete, with a little extra time before patch day, they could easily be finished and make Dominion the awesome patch it is supposed to be.

Lmao. Most people (apart from <1% of the player base that are stomping their feet right now) are actually looking forward to the expansion.

You should have been happy with just a huge boost (which even the last incarnation of changes was), thats what happens when people get greedy, they end up with nothing...

What? Are you ******ed? We were perfectly happy with the first set of changes, they were universally lauded as awesome. It was CCP Nozh who decided they would never do, and had to introduce the last set of changes (10 fighters, half the price, etc) that set everyone off, because they were terrible. No one got greedy, we had the changes we tested and gave feedback on pulled out from under us like the proverbial rug. Get your facts straight before you post next time.

This. Pretty much this. Don't push crap out the door. Finish the patch. Spend another month or three playtesting it if necessary. Get the community feedback. Make capitals fun to play if they are indeed the "new BS" of the game.

I also like the idea of refunding the build cost isk to all supercapital owners and putting the modules in the pilot's nearest hanger and having eve move forward without titans or motherships at all.

/me hangs head in shame

Simply put, if I went to work tommorow and sent out an email to everyone saying "BTW guys, looks like we can't agree on this change so all of the work you been doing for the last 4 months, lets just skip it and do it later" .... I'D BE FIRED!

I would love to be in the room the day Abathur comes for a visit :)

Seriously, this is the exact reason I am pursuing the CSM as there has to be more input from council members who are willing to stand up to CCP at meetings and with my 4 years of 0.0 experience, I can say something a little more intelligent then "you can't use target painters on capitals"

Just chiming in to agree that Nozh really must have no idea how capital ships are used, no offense to him. I mean, I understand that Eve is a large game, with many aspects, and different players (and devs) prefer to indulge in some forms of gameplay over others. However, please, PLEASE do not let an individual that believe capital ships rarely, if ever, engage in fights at close range have any say in development of that aspect of the game.

Thank you.

"The explosion velocity is slightly higher than that of the Citadel Cruise Missiles (or 2250) which means target painters will have to be utilized in many situations to achieve full damage potential."

Lol....Look man Im not gonna flame you but its really had to respect what you say when it isn't realevent to the game mechanics.

So I hit reply on page 21 but a previous post said this was page 22.
As a fellow software developer I get to see how management is more interested in 'get in done right now' over 'get it done right'

unfortunately, management has this crazy idea that they can get you to build the pyramids of Egypt with McDonald's salaries.

when the original post came out for domfail, i stated that CCP is promising a lot that they can't deliver.

so what do we have here? an expansion that seems to be little more than a waste of time of all your resources. devs scrambling to get something out with their name on it so they can look like they've been busy, and mods trying to cover the outrage of the community to protect the devs who didn't have balls enough to say this is ****.

news flash, quality > quantity
put a little ♥ into your work and we love you for it. rush crap out the door and you can ignore it indefinitely (blackopswut?) we're the ones who have do deal with it
you guys had/have a great plan. we are/were all excited about it. but if you don't man up and admit your mistakes and resolve to rework this expansion to the level of quality it needs to be before it comes to TQ, you'll only have yourselves to blame for however this pans out.

tl;dr good luck on the next 6 years, hell, good luck on the next 6 months

I don't want to see Dominion shelved. It still has some important changes:

DD Removal
MoonGold Balancing
Sov changes removing Cyno Jammer spamming

I'm a mothership pilot and have been in one for 18 months. Never really used it in battle (few skirmishes under sov 3 and some lol drops in Syndicate). To be honest I don't mind the new pricing on moms if moms actually had a place on the battlefield. I'd love to pew pew with the ship, would take off the pimp fit and sell it and have enough isk to buy 3 more.

But looks like my Wyvern will continue to be used as a removal van as I move from region to region. Move a bunch of BS and 50k in mods from system to system, unload, set long skill train and log off for a month. It's the best $15/mo that I ever spend. I get to say I'm a mothership pilot and insert the word "Wyvern" whenever I can when chatting with interweb spaceship friends.

Thank you CCP for ensuring my mom stays permanently logged off so I can boast about how awesome I am without ever having to risk the ship in PeeVeePee.

It is pretty obvious by when this nozh puts out blogs that it is a parachute dev name of one of the main devs who is too much of a gutless ***** to sign his name to something when he knows it is either flat out idiotic and based on an utter lack of game knowledge, ill-considered, or wildly unpopular.

Very weak.

Although I agree that they needed alot more work on the supercarriers. Allowing these to dock with such massive hitpoint buffers and get "free repairs" and then undock and keep on repping was game breaking to say the least. Being able to go toe to toe with a titan and win was hilarious (old 20 bomber version)

However holding back supercarriers, and then saying "The Titans primary value should be as a fleet's logistical backbone. Although this vision has not been fully realized, it continues to be the goal." is laughable

You stuffed up with area effect DD. You stuffed up with Titans in the beginning. Now they have been reduced to pos hugging paperwieghts. Making them have the DPS of 1 dread + superweapon.... you have admitted the supercarrier needs more work, well so does the Titan. Infact you admitted the Titan needs work to in the blog.

So seriously, FIX titans properly. dont just do a half arsed job on them and say you will get around to it another time. We have been waiting 3 years for you to fix it the first time, I would hate to think it will be another 3 years before you get around to it again...

To CCP's Upper Management,

I constructively suggest that you stop letting Nozh any where near game design, balance or frankly anything near your EVE MMO product. He has shown himself in this last couple weeks and with the proposed carrier nerf of 2007 to really have no clue at all about capital ships, their roles, their function and their prefered method of use in game.

Can we just go back to what CCP Abathur proposed at fanfest? I think the fact that so many different factions of the EVE political landscape agreed with those ideas, lends validity to those ideas. The fact that only nameless alts seem to welcome any of Nozh's dev blogs this month should mean something to you all sitting in the board room.

I hope that was constructive enough.

How can you not justify making a change to Motherships when you are making changes to Titan and Dreads?

Sieged dreads will be tracking better with higher damage weapons used at longer range i.e. hitting motherships better.

Two titans will be able to instapop a 25 billion isk mothership (Nyx with X-type hardners, A-type EANM, HG slave set and T2 trimarks.)

How is this acceptable? There will be little desire to use what is the end game for many of your longer term customers (players who have 3-4 accounts and have been ingame for 3+ years).

Dear CCP,

You'd probably have a lot more constructive posts if some of you guys would actually reply in this thread and move the discussion forward. It'd probably take less time than deleting the "unconstructive" ones. This is called a "dialog" and requires more than one party. If you don't actually want to discuss what you post in your blogs, why do you even bother opening threads about them?

At the very least a post from Nozh (OK, a new blog would be better because it really would be like marching him out into a firing squad right now) detailing exactly what he thought was wrong with Abathur's implementation and needed fixing in the first place. This would give us a basis to further the discussion.

Please take that on board. Now I'm going to wait an hour or so, and when I realise that I'm writing reasonably and calmly for an audience that doesn't exist, I'm going to come back to this thread and do the posting equivalent of taking a gigantic **** on the floor.

Thanks for reading, CCP.

I hope.

It is funny how dumb the Eve community has become, as it thinks that all those changes that were brought by CCP Nozh (carrier nerf, speed nerf, missile nerf and now supercarrier mess) were his ideas or done by him. He's just the bad messenger, who communicates stuff that was designed and done by others or at least by a team.

Actually I have to gree with a poster above on the assumption that CCP Nozh isn't a real person but a char that is used by many devs when they communicate bad news. No one wants to be the bad messenger, since bad messengers are usually the first one to receive the beating. In Middle Ages the bad messenger was usually decapitated, today they drag him through the mire on the forums. The reason for making such non-personal poster char is obvious, comments about how bad and evil that non-existent CCP Nozh guy is, are therefore sheepish and simple-minded.
